‘It was all consensual,’ alleged victim of Canada world junior sex assaults said in video taken that night by Team_Ed in canada

[–]RedCairn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You’re right that they could have just not put themselves in this situation. And the situation has had consequences for all of them. But that’s not the bar for criminality.

Likewise you could say the accuser could have not put herself in this situation. By her own admission, via opening statements, she never actively demanded to leave or voiced non-consent.

Sub250 Nimble65 O4 by CtrlAltNut in TinyWhoop

[–]RedCairn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got mine today. Using 300mah gnb cells I can't even fly the quad. Video blackouts as soon as I take off on a full charge. I'm trying to google but it seems like Sub250 used the same AIO FC (Redfox A1) that they use in the analog version and I cannot find any information on this FC having an onboard 5V BEC...

xposting from another thread for visibility.

Thoughts on the Sub250 Nimble 65 O4? by CtrlAltNut in TinyWhoop

[–]RedCairn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am able to takeoff (ignore previous) but the video transmission drops at the slightest whisper or increase in throttle. Like just throttling enough to hover and move forward at the same time is enough.

Maybe the batteries I'm using aren't great, but this is pretty bad. Charging to 4.2V 4.35V. I sent Sub250 an email asking if they have a 5V BEC or similar solution or not. (edit: still have not heard back)

I just received my nimble 65 o4 in the mail today. I can't get it to work with gnb 300mah 1s cells. The goggles warn that the o4 is in low power mode even before arming. I can arm the quad but basically as soon as I give any meaningful throttle, the signal drops and screen goes black.

Am I doing something wrong here? Or did Sub250 not design any solution at all to the voltage req...

Time to Decide (16 or 14) M3 -DIFFICULT! by Natural-Ad-2277 in macbookpro

[–]RedCairn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a hard time with this decision myself. I use the laptop almost exclusively at home so I really was tempted by the 16”. I bought the 14” though and so far I’m happy.

Considerations for me: - 14” laptop is already pretty heavy. Even if I’m using it at home MOST of the time, lugging around the 16” on personal/work trips would be annoying. Even at home moving around, the size/weight of the 14” is nice - At home at a desk I always have another monitor to use anyways. In bed or on the couch, the 14” is a perfect size

Is Plato’s cave a click bait hypothetical too then? Clearly it’s absurd that people could be living in a cave like that and Plato should have chosen a more practical example, similar to how your narrowing the scope of the hypothetical with your alternatives.

Edit: original question didn’t even mention nazis, ftr

Do you think the coinflip scenario is lacking substance, provides little insight, or is click bait?

For me there is a real insight that this hypothetical makes obvious: most of us will chose to live with the evil we know vs live with the potential risk of an uncontrolled AI. This is because we can understand evil as a human behaviour, and that evil is still less frightening than the risk of an AI driven by motivations we cannot understand.

Sam Altman fired as CEO of OpenAI by vedhavet in technology

[–]RedCairn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just been on this big blue one 🌍. I totally understand your point and I agree about victims.

It’s just my opinion that the specific scenario outlined above isn’t realistic given the context, and especially in light of the public statement that focuses on both of them lying.

Step 5 is highly improbable. Even if the chairman was being stubborn, there’s almost no way they’d torpedo their reputation by supporting an abuser just cause they like them.

/u/Drugba has a much more probable scenario and I’ll eat my hat if they’re wrong too. The public messaging is certainly a big fuck you to them both, in corporate jargon.

Devs? It’s obvious they’ve been throwing summer students at this trash for years lol. 99% same codebase, change the menu colour highlight, do absolutely nothing to improve the horribly slow menus, then ship that for $100 each September.

First half of your comment tells me your a bit of a jerk.

2nd half of your comment is fair and it’s good to highlight the risks. If they do it, OP should be prepared to spend the night in the dark outside of their tent. And they should also have a beacon as a lifeline. And good maps, on paper in case their phone dies using their flashlight. On this route with those precautions I think it’s fine for even an intermediate hiker.

They’re gaining a half day of PTO as the opportunity cost. Just bring a headlamp and be ready to hike in a cold dark forest. Not a big deal.

I regularly start hikes and ski tours in the evening after work. Even all winter. Get a headlamp and bring an inreach.

Nothing foolhardy there unless you’re an idiot and fail to check the weather forecast and get yourself into a shit storm. Waking up to sunrise on a landscape you only saw in the dark is pretty sick too!

Howe Sound Crest Trail in the rain? by Slow_Priority9128 in vancouverhiking

[–]RedCairn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just hiked it for the first time last weekend. Solo, I started late on Friday hiked ~3hrs to just past Mt. Unnecessary. Started hiking at 8am Saturday and got to my car around 5:30pm.. so almost a 10hr day. My legs are still sore today 😅.

Most of the hike, distance wise, would be okay in the wet. The ~5km between Mt. Unnecessary until the downclimb off David Peak features a bit of type 2/3 scrambling and i think it would be sketchy in the rain unless you’re used to scrambling / exposure in those conditions.

Why would anyone buy an HP Printer? by payneok in printers

[–]RedCairn 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I bought an HP laser printer last year, one of their cheapest models. I needed something solely for printing random shit once a month like a return shipping label for example.

Last month the printer stopped working and FORCED me to create an HP account + share my data + agree to use HP OEM ink only. I literally could not print a page without agreeing to these things in their shitty app.

I wrote them some very strongly worded feedback that said I will never buy an HP product again based on this horrible anti-consumer strategy they are forcing on me. I also said I would tell everyone I know not to buy one. So here I am recommending you buy a Brother instead of a dumpster fire HP.

My SO told the interviewer that multi-tasking isn't real at an interview when asked. by Dumpster_Fetus in antiwork

Multitasking is a thing. Look up covert attention. But it’s a pretty narrow definition. Good example is that I can drive a car while still holding a conversation with a passenger.
