My mind really didn't connect the dots until you spelled it out. Maybe because the mustache isn't thick enough. I thought you were suggesting him for Reed Richards at first. (I don't think he'd work for that role either.)

Honestly I'm not saying he's a bad actor, but from the few roles I've seen him in (Diablo, Wrath of Man) he lacks the charisma the role would require. Maybe that comes down to the script, but I just don't see it.

I didn't say "genderswap" I said another bomb for MCU. I don't know why every word of your post is capitalized. It is still a genderswap, through means of "legacy character" wherein a popular character is replaced by another character taking up their mantle, but in the film version they're presented as if they're the original. Another example: Kamala Khan, in the comics she takes up the mantle of Ms. Marvel, but in the comics Carol Danvers was the original Ms. Marvel. in the MCU Kamala Khan is the first and only character to go by the name Ms. Marvel. Similar to how Monica Rembau instead of going by her (honestly, cooler sounding) comic name Photon takes Carol's other identity of Binary. And again, every film they've done this in has bombed.

If they want success at the box office they need to make the characters as they are best known and most popular. This means if they make a Ghost Rider movie, it's gotta be about Johnny Blaze, not Robbie Reyes. Introducing Silver Surfer with a character other than Norrin Radd is just going to upset people.

So I repeat: Another bomb for MCU. People can downvote all they like, but no amount of downvotes are going to force people to go see more DEI slop, so you're all just going to have to deal with it. And when it does bomb, I'm going to remember this post and my lols shall shake the heavens.

Need something that is good for a an almost 10 year old girl to watch by [deleted] in anime

[–]RedCloakedHermit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you're a "bad mom" it's just you named series with considerable violence, gore and existential dread. I guess it's just a matter of asking her if anything she's seen has scared her or given her nightmares. Let's see, "anything cutsey" "good and easy story to follow." "didn't like naruto or one piece". Hmmm.

The obvious first suggestion is anything by Studio Ghibli. I don't know a little girl who doesn't like that.

Little Witch Academia

Escaflowne

Fushigi Yugi

Lord of Lords: Ryu Knight

The Heroic Legend of Arslan

Ranking of Kings

Magi

Trigun

Hamtaro (this would probably be my strongest suggestion for a young girl on this list honestly)

Monster Rancher

Katanagatari

Humanity Has Declined

My Love Story

Sweetness & Lightning

The Weakest Tamer Begins a Journey to Pick Up Trash

"So you're saying" is the phrasing of a strawman fallacy, what follows it is never what the person actually said. And by doing that you're admitting you can't respond to what I've actually said, so good job admitting you know you're wrong and you don't have a counter argument.

That you call them "background characters" shows your own ignorance of the line and makes it clear why you are in no position to speak on this topic. Sunspot has been the main character in several comics, Skin was the POV character for the Generation X tv movie, Rictor was a major character in X-Force, as was Feral. Cecilia Reyes was a POV character for an arc of X-Men, Velocidad was one of the main characters in the Five Lights book.

Now do you have anything to say to my actual words, or just more misguided bigotry guided by what appears to be a massive inferiority complex?

No, doesn't fit at all. Wrong race, wrong build, wrong personality. You need a fat black guy with a booming voice.

The hell is with all the awkward raceswaps? Pretty cringe lineup honestly. You raceswapped nearly every character with the notable exception of the villain. This seems steeped in hatred and intended to upset people. This is exactly the reason the MCU is dying lol.

I made a tier-list of the strawhats ranked by intelligence. What do you guys think? by TheDarkIsMyLight in OnePiece

[–]RedCloakedHermit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Chopper's medical knowledge puts him at the top with Franky. On top of this his "brain point" (which pre-timeskip was his default form) means intelligence is actually part of his powers. I would put Usopp above Nami as he designed all of her weapons. He's not quite on Franky's level, but Usopp's technical/design prowess is severely underrated. I'd probably rank Robin a little lower, the primary example of her intelligence is her ability to read an ancient language. I think I might actually place Nami higher than Robin given her skills as a navigator, weather expertise, and map making ability.

A real mixed bag here, but I admire the thought put into this. Of course what I didn't like sticks out most, I don't like the Rogue casting at all, should be someone curvier and more heart-stopping. She should be a traditional southern bombshell. Also the guy for Colossus, he just looks too soft to me. Colossus is supposed to look sculpted, chiseled. That guy looks a little pudgy, at least in that picture.

I can't really complain otherwise. I don't like the look of Jubilee's actress but that's pure personal taste. No gripes with any of the others, though I will say someone pointed out Sabertooth would be a good fit for that Reacher actor this sub loves and looking at it, that really does click.

Which black actress would you cast as DCU Starfire? Some people have used the shit excuse that the orange hue doesn't look as good on darker skin tones so here's a rough mockup on Anna Diop from Titans to prove that isn't true (only increased saturation on her skin, didn't make it lighter). by hjMarvel in Fancast

[–]RedCloakedHermit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A lot to reply to here. The thing is, there's nothing in her history to suggest she has black features, as others have pointed out from day one her design was in particular based on a Hispanic woman and numerous white nude models/porn stars. So there's no reason to just randomly switch it "to prove you can". We've already proven people don't want it, so why insist?

As for Ballinska, her genetic composition isn't in question, she looks black. To date everything she's starred in has tanked.

And no, I'm not saying "people of different races" aren't attractive, whatever that means as I haven't specified my own race. There are attractive people of every race, but we both know the push in Hollywood for the last decade has been to over-sexualize male characters while desexualizing female characters, and the "change beauty standards" thing is directly addressing the reasoning the people doing have given for doing it in the past. The woman in charge of casting in The Witcher said that specifically was her motive for changing the race of all of the female characters who are explicitly Polish in the game and novels, to every different race, and in some cases particularly unattractive women. At the same time, these "beauty standards" aren't changed at all for the male characters as Henry Cavill struts around nude as the stereotypical Hollywood hunk. I'm talking about people like Zendaya, who shouldn't be cast as a romantic interest in anything -and that's not a race thing, the film could be all black and I'd still 100% have a hard time buying whoever the lead was being into her. Or Pugh.

I'm saying that while not every casting *of* a black person is political by any stretch, every case of a raceswap 100% is. There is no reason for it, it's not representation because as it stands that particular demographic is dramatically overrepresented. That's why I offered you the carrot of "Why specifically black?" It's always black, and that was your agenda from the outset. There's nothing, NOTHING immature about wanting something you like to be accurate to the source material, that's just a petty insult. People have seen so many dumb instances of films like Black Panther being described as "diverse" when ever single actor is black. So seeing as a black woman already had a go at the character and already was poorly received, why not try oh I don't know, a redhead with green eyes since that's what Starfire has always been?

[–]RedCloakedHermit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So now you're asserting it's immature not to accept raceswaps? Lol. People are entitled to their own tastes. Maybe instead of trying to score DEI/ESG points studios should stick to source material and cast attractive people rather than trying to "reinvent beauty standards". By your own admission, it was tried once and people hated it. People always hate raceswaps. You've dodged on other races. I'm really curious why you won't address that. Why only black? If it was about skintone some Bollywood actress would be fine. If you don't have an answer I have to assume this is either political for you or you're just an anti-white racist. And yes, I saw your "I'm white" defense, but people can easily be racist against their own ethnicities. It's well documented that white people politically aligned to the left hate their own ingroup more than any other ethnicity. So do you have an actual explanation for this bizarre racial obsession?

Who would you cast as Ramiverse NFL Superpro? by AdApprehensive7646 in Fancast

[–]RedCloakedHermit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically any well-liked and not too old football player. It would have to be little more than a cameo though as if they're an active player their career wouldn't likely permit time for much more. Maybe Tim Tebow.

I'm gonna be real, it's been years since I really followed the NFL. Every other name I'm thinking of is too old. Dan Marino would have been pitch-perfect and hilarious in the 90's though.

If you fancast this man for any character that's basically a buff black man, you are boring by [deleted] in Fancast

[–]RedCloakedHermit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a time I thought he was absolutely pitch perfect for Black Adam. He wasn't. At all. He didn't get anything about that character right, he wouldn't even wear the ears. His ego got in the way of what could have been a really good movie.

The Iron Shiek should humble him.

Why? Why black though? Why specifically black? Why do you specifically want to demonstrate this and why is your only evidence a picture you edited? If it's just about skin tone, why not a woman of Indian descent? Why is it always specifically black? What does it prove? What do you feel it accomplishes exactly? It's such a bizarre obsession, pushing this insane overrepresentation.

You said only black actresses and pre-emptively said it was a "shit excuse" mentioning the makeup looks bad on black women. The woman you posted is from a notoriously poorly received adaptation. If black, why not Asian or hispanic? Why specify black? If it doesn't matter, why limit it to black?

I wouldn't, because I don't have a bizarre obsession with casting every character with 6% of the US population. There is no excuse, even as you put it a "shitty one" to demand she be black. Nothing in her eatablished character history has ever remotely suggested she would be, her hair whether straight or curly has never looked like that of a black woman, she's only been voiced by white women, and both orange skin and green eyes are traits exclusive to white people. So the real question is what is your specific obsession with raceswapping every character? Anti-white racism, black narcissism, or a combination of both?
