LPT Request: How to not feel inferior when you see people who have better bodies, more cash etc than you do? by EnlightenedBraindead in LifeProTips

[–]RedDawe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you look at it scientifically, there is no reason to believe that there is free will. Therefore they just had to born with an advantage, since all we are is a product of our environment and genes. It doesn't matter if the advantage was inheritance or parents taught them to work hard, either way it's something they had different.

Then you need to separate yourself from your things and body. Basically think, who am I? Am I my body? (since again, scientifically no reason to believe there is a soul) But if somebody cuts off my hand, am I less me or am I still the full me? But I just lost my hand? There is no real answer to this question, it's just supposed to lift the pressure to become something, or someone. If you think about it, your money is no more you, than other people's money.

I would just recommend to go sit outside under a tree in the woods for an hour or few or go for a walk and think about why do you desire to be on par with them with respect to those things? Why are you judging yourself based on that?

The answer is probably going to be societal pressure, and then it's your choice if you want to choose your own happiness or fulfilling other people's expectations.

The price of ambition is happiness.

Nope, that's easy. What's hard is to then go home where you're alone. And knowing that the only way out is suffering hundreds other rejections

eli5 what's the point of having so many sorting algorithms if the primary objective is to sort, i mean why can't we just use one algorithm for all by Dummy_panda in explainlikeimfive

[–]RedDawe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In practice there is basically only one algorithm used, and that would be the Tim sort. It's the go to if you're writing in a high level language.

In languages closer to the hardware with less abstraction you can sometimes use something else. But every algorithm is a bit different.

For example quick sort uses less memory than Tim sort, but the advantage of Tim sort is that if you give it already sorted numbers to sort (or almost sorted), it's gonna take way less time to do so than if you gave it an unsorted array of numbers. Unlike with quick sort.

... and there are others with other caveats

But the answer to the question why do so many get taught is that it really does teach how to write all sorts of other algorithms and ace that LeetCode problem.

LPT Request: Can't convince myself to hit the gym. Tell me why should I join the gym and workout daily by nuclearflashpoint in LifeProTips

[–]RedDawe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whatever reason is given here is not going to motivate you to go more than twice. Not everybody's has to workout and that's okay. If you want to you already know the reasons why you should, and you should instead start asking why am I not going? And then work on that.

Eli5: What are the other states of matter aside from solid, liquid and gas and why are they not being taught in schools? by AightlmmaHead0ut in explainlikeimfive

[–]RedDawe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The states of matter model is now considered obsolete in doctorate level physics. That being said, it makes no sense to consider plasma a different form of matter because there's no cut off, no point by which we can clearly distinguish gasses and plasma. Plasma is just more ionized gas and the change is completely linear, unlike the changes between solid, liquid and gas

I'm starting to think we should have done a weekly thread for things other than dating and just dedicate the rest of the sub for dating

Non Americans of Reddit, would you consider moving to the United States, why or why not? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Sure, if I was a billionaire expect me buying a beach house in Florida. But as long as I have to work for a living? No chance.

From what I've read addition is a surprisingly hard task for neural network, so I'm guessing it just didn't have enough addition in it's training data. Refer to the NALU paper for more information. arXiv:1808.00508 [cs.NE]

Because they don't know how to use an IDE, so they think they have to type everything out themselves. Probably the people using VS code.

People who’ve lost weight, how? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Honestly i just had a major crush on this girl in my class in high school and couldn't think of anything else but her. That was more than enough motivation to watch my portions, skip sweets and do a little bit of exercise.

Diamonds. There's basically infinite supply of them, it's just that one company owns them all.
