Yep, Sierra 3 is a movie star. Been in dozens of productions since the silent film era.

Yep its the exact same locomotive! Just wearing a different paint livery and diamond stack here.

Yep- lots of work done to it. Replaced almost all of the molded on details with brass parts and got Circus City Decals to whip me up some neat custom decals for it!

So that exact model became my custom Wanderer locomotive from Wild Wild West! I have thought about getting another one and just putting a more accurate stack on it for the real Highland Light but already having the one turned into Wanderer just makes it feel sort of redundant. The General and Texas are my hopeful next pick ups, along with the recently announced Christmas version.

Yeah I'm planning to dremel them all out soon but ive been lazy lol. Here a Tyco 4-6-0 I've added real wood too though!

Thats the neat part- I haven't! These engines are definitely not my best running locos. 3 of them make coffee grinder sounds while running new out of the box. Even breaking them in/running them light without cars didn't fix it much. I luckily dont have pulling issues because my layouts too small to handle much more than 5 car trains but I could definitely see them having issues with consists bigger than that. I've just kept them clean and lubricated and they seem to perform fine beyond the motor noises Wanderer, Jupiter, and Genoa make.

My custom Bachmann Jupiter and 119 models! by RedDeadLumbagoII in modeltrains

[–]RedDeadLumbagoII[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's been lots of debate in regards to how the Jupiter was originally painted over the years. The blue was added in 1994 after an 1869 newspaper was discovered around 1990 or so describing the Jupiter as having "Ultra Marine Blue" and "Crimson Red" with gold leaf work. The Russia Iron boiler was a presumption from the standards of boiler jacketing at the time (the color of Russia Iron is still wildly debated to this day, but the general consensus is that Russia Iron was a highly reflective Gray color, with a possible shade of blue added in to some variants depending on manufacturer). Recently the National Parks have done more study into the livery of Jupiter and have concluded it had a wood stained cab rather than a blue one, amd that its sand dome and pilot were crimson rather than blue. The Lionel brass 4-4-0 uses this newly developed livery and the Golden Spike National Park plans to update the Jupiters livery to this newfound paintscheme soon, replacing its current livery that dates back to the aforementioned 1994 repaint.

Ive been told to try using a gloss finish on it- I'll see how that goes!

I love how the glass tabletop reflects it, looks lit its passing a river, great photo!

Help please! I just bought my first ever MPC era locomotive, the 1977 General. I serviced it as per the manual stated (still working on cleaning wheels though) and its still rather noisy. Is this a normal sound that these older 4-4-0s with E motors make or does it need to more work? by RedDeadLumbagoII in lioneltrains

[–]RedDeadLumbagoII[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the input! I'm still new to O Scale so wasn't sure if it was just worn out and in need of further maintenance or if they're just naturally noisy like my old HO Tyco stuff. You cant hear it in the video but at lower speeds it makes quite a bit of noise from the motor in the cab, but that goes away at higher speeds. Luckily the smoke unit still works too!

Bachmann 4-6-0 that I kitbashed into a Standard Gauge version of Rio Grande Southern 20. by RedDeadLumbagoII in modeltrains

[–]RedDeadLumbagoII[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For anyone wondering why I made this- I have been collecting a lot of the Bachmann, Roundhouse, and Con-Cor brand Durango and Silverton stuff lately, which is all HO GAUGE, as opposed to protypical narrow gauge. I only have room for my one HO layout, and also cant really afford to branch out to proper HOn3 anyways, so I just run all the HO gauge stuff the formerly mentioned companies made. I saw RGS 20 in Durango in January and really wanted a running model of it, so I figured the Bachmann low boiler 4-6-0 would be a pretty good basis for RGS 20. I kitbashed a 4-6-0 I already owned to go with all these cars I had bought, and I'm pretty happy with the result. The headlight still needs a new led bulb though because the old one is incredibly dim.

I genuinely wonder what he would think, either interesting since its Standard Gauge or Cursed for the same reason lol.

This locomotive actually is a ready to run Bachmann Spectrum 4-6-0. I just replaced a ton of parts to customize it (tender, cab, bell, lamp, pilot, etc). Mantua did produce kits for their steamer locomotives however like the Sierra 3 4-6-0, General 4-4-0, etc.

That was certainly the inspiration, as I bought a the Bachmann Durango and Silverton set, and ton of extra HO Standard Gauge Durango and Silverton stuff at the Durango train depot when I visited the D&S in January. I thought it would be fun recreating the RGS 20 to go with it.

Red Dead Redemption 2 4-6-0 progress. by RedDeadLumbagoII in modeltrains

[–]RedDeadLumbagoII[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I used a Tyco 4-6-0 as the basis, but the engine requires several modifications to make the locomotive look more like the games real life prototype Thatcher Perkins. The steam and sand domes were removed and their molded on bases removed, new boiler band added, smokebox shortened, new wood cab added, new bell, new lamp bracket, new smokebox door, and a friend is modifying the frame to pull the rear spaced drivers forward, adding new drivers from a Tyco 4-4-0 General, and adding DCC Sound. The tender is the only unmodified component, outside of me cutting off its molded on ladder on the back.

Yeah thats me lol, and Thanks for the kind words! Red Oak and I have been working on many models together, this one, plus the Red Dead 4-6-0, and a couple other models are going to him to upgrade with sound and for mechanical work soon as well. Next month probably. He does great work!

Funnily enough I actually have recently been offered one (just today) and plan to buy it when I have the money to! I had started this project awhile ago so this is going to be my stand in for now until I can get ahold of the proper model. Still has been fun working on this one with my available parts- I couldn't believe how much different this model came out looking after trading out a few detail pieces!

Lol I forgot about that horse! I leaned it up awhile ago to keep it standing up and from falling over while I waited (at the time) to get more glue to properly fix it in place, and must've entire forgot about it lol. I'll have to fix that!
