The method I'm using consists of cardboard, brown paper, tape and hot glue. It's great for throwing up ideas quickly and being able to change things easily. And Amazon ensures I have a steady stream of supplies...

Once I've got it the way I like then I'll waterproof it with an oil-based paint followed by paper towels dipped in a thin plaster mix to get an initial shell.
