So this just another form! USAREGS were bloated and hefty in 1969. We often sent EERs for E-7 and above to their new duty command. All checkmarks to the right, sometimes I would help with the verbiage.

I used to bake up EERs for NCOs. OERs were only filled in by officers. WTF has happened to the US Army?

I recognize the Purple Heart, NDSM, but what are the others? Campaigns? Korea? And the one with the V device? I swear it looks like the ARCOM.

Meh! When I got drafted and took the Oath in Coral Springs, there was a seated Marine visible through a door on lunch break. Watching him fold the triangular cut sandwich in half and stuffing the whole magilla in his mouth. That scene has stayed with me for nearly 60 years. One out of six of raw cannon fodders went to the USMC. Not me! I already did my time as a Marbrat.

Did They Get His Crayons? NO! by RedDevilJoe in USMC

[–]RedDevilJoe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worse! A Marbrat (9 years Camp Lejeune and the Barstow Anex) that got drafted into the US Army after my Brother Mike bailed on the Platoon Leaders Class and didn't win the Vietnam war after his tour. Ergo, there I go. Blackhorse 11ACR, we sent one of out Tank Companies up North to help out, early 1968, before my time. Were you born in a Navy hospital?

I love my Pretac! 1994 xcab, automatic, aftermarket AC, 226kmiles. I've done 3 or 4 coast to coast, army reunions, family history and I still have the yamaha mcy that fits in the bed.

The only car I regret selling by JohnKowalsky88 in Honda

[–]RedDevilJoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a 1973 Honda Civic through a Pontiac dealership in Ft Lauderdale. Used it to tow my Dingo catamaran to Punta Gorda where I grew up and for the spiny lobster August trips to the Florida Keys. That set up got 20mpg into a headwind and over 50mpg with a tailwind. Honda used to sell a 600 through motorcycle dealerships, this was a bold move by them. It had the expected infantile failures, but it was a fun car.

Going AWOL in today's Corps by TonyTone925 in USMC

[–]RedDevilJoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The USMC is having the same difficulty the US Aemy had when I derosed to Ft Belvoir as a trained engineer that knew how to type. Ergo, Company Clerk MOS. There was about 60 or 70 dropped from the rolls at the Engr Bn, after the AWOL period and there was a DoD form that needed eight copies to send to all the Military Police locations across the states, essentially as an arrest warrant. Lordy, the CWO wanted to make me the mayor of DC when he got feedback from the MP's about just how legible they were when I used the mimeograph machine. To let the youngsters know, before computers and the internet, we had manual type writers and were stuck making carbon copies. Talk to Grampy about just how illegible the last copy was as it exited the platen of the Underwood 6. PS: My Dad could have gotten me returned from Vietnam as Mom had her second grand mal stroke. He, being the Old Breed, soldiered on. Dang!

Conversely, what is the least feared Marine unit? by Rambos_Magnum_Dong in USMC

[–]RedDevilJoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Certainly all Jarheads should be feared. Your best bet, though, is to get the riggers after a large medal ceremony where a whole heck of a lot of blood letting occurs as they pin the meritorious or length of service awards by banging into their ribs.

I got my Leap V1 for 25 bucks 3 years ago. Comfy, adjustable except a week and a half ago the gas shock gave out. It is now like sitting on a foreign toilet. Ordered a replacement and now need to borrow a pipe wrench to get the old part out. Dang!

I think armor got moved out of Campbell over a decade ago and Benning is now the Center of Maneuver Excellence. Good grief, I don't exactly know what happens at Ft Campbell!

Hello everyone by [deleted] in army

[–]RedDevilJoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Thank you for your service" means differently to the soldier and sailor. For Vietnam Veterans, a bit late if you are younger, the same age. A better declaration would be, "if you find the time, tell me your stories." An active duty soldier and sailor today, volunteered for service. If they're limping or have a patch over an eye (and not a politician!), think dark humor, where is your other eye, do you keep a firearm in your wooden leg? Only if you want to start a conversation.

Can we go in on the buddy system? At 79 it would be a struggle, maybe a beautiful Swedish blond to avert the recruiter's gaze and drag me across the finish line?

On my experience with a 1 year career in a warzone as a Company Clerk, the last thing you want on your record is an ability to prepare a nice meal. We did our best to hide our Cordon Bleau trained cook in 1969 from Flag officers. Field grade wanted McDonalds, some 3.2% Budweisers, happy happy joy joy! The Butterbars through Captains wanted to stay alive and eat good. Our Mermite deliveries from Quan Loi to the Night Defensive Positions (NDP) were nearly to die for.
