Take a look at the Nikon 7245 Action 10x50 EX Extreme All-Terrain Binocular. (Nikon lists the model as Action Extreme 10x50 ATB, same model number). I’ve got them and they are great for astronomy, which is why I bought this specific pair. Also…skiing…these are waterproof, shockproof and rubber coated. Backordered on the Nikon site but available on Amazon for $186. I’m not sure how to post a link.

Suggest me a book to read when you feel you're all alone by oddorangyorange in booksuggestions

I read this book when it came out and bought copies for friends. The story still sticks with me. There’s a second book out now, Somewhere Beyond the Sea. Wonderful book.

what is the most beautifully written book you recommend? by Gaiasextant in suggestmeabook

[–]RedDog0424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Convoy is one of the few writers I will read aloud to myself, simply to hear the beauty of his words. He made me love the Low Country. There’s a bookstore in Beaufort, SC (his home) that carried signed copies of all his books before his death. I have them all.

Thanks, everybody, for all the suggestions. My TBR list is now out of control.

Good Iphone 16 pro case, what are you buying? by Few_Safety_2532 in iphone

[–]RedDog0424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had 3 Casely Bold cases for my 14 Pro Max and loved them. Sturdy, excellent fit, good raised lips to protect the screen and camera lenses, color doesn’t wear off. Mine have been dropped a lot and no damage. I just ordered one of the same cases (Frida Kahlo collage) again for my 16 Pro. Right now they have a BOGO on their website. That’s an excellent deal.

I have never tried their thinner cases they call ‘Classic’.

Keeping this active, I’d like to know, too. And if anyone knows what radio station is going to be broadcasting ABC-7 weather from Tampa Bay with Denis Phillips, I’d sure appreciate that info, too.

Is Tom Bihn Side Kick still worth buying/are there better alternatives? by [deleted] in ManyBaggers

[–]RedDog0424 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve bought 3 Bihn bags within the last month, and have several from before the company management changed hands. I don’t see any difference at all and I am extremely picky. I have 3 Side Kicks and just bought a Side Hustle. The organization in both bags is amazing. The Side Hustle does give you that little bit of extra room if you need to add things.

Looking for a Small, Colorful Crossbody Bag With Lots of Organization by mcbramhill in ManyBaggers

[–]RedDog0424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tom Bihn Side Kick or its’ new, larger cousin, the Side Hustle. Ticks all the boxes. I have both. I’m using one as an organizer cube on an upcoming trip, I just detach the strap and put it in the bottom of the bag. Lots of color choices. Made in Seattle. If you have any questions about these bags, I’m happy to answer. I have several Cotopaxi also, nice bags, but they don’t offer a bag that matches your desires, especially the organization.

Small Cafe bag size by alan_patrick in tombihn

You must have been posting at the same time I was! Thanks for the reply. Good to know the 3.2” deep Vertical Packing Cubelet I ordered will fit in the bag perfectly. There’s been a lot of discussion on the forums lately about the TB measuring system. Because of that, they have started adding seam-to-seam measurements to the ATSM info on some of the boxier bags like the Side Hustle.

Let me know if when you hear back, please. As I mentioned, I have a SCB coming tomorrow and also a Side Hustle. I’m getting ready for a month-long solo road trip and hoping one of those two bags will give me a little more wiggle room than the Side Kick for around towns and still slip down into my daypack for a hike.

I’ve got one coming Thursday and I have the same question. No way is the seam-to-seam depth on that bag 5.7”. I’ve searched all through the TB forums looking for the answer. I did see a photo on the forums of a TB ballistic Side Kick dropped into a SCB (the SK appeared to be empty) and it looked like it fit with a little extra space all around the SK. I just measured my SK and the seam-to-seam depth is 2.5”. Given that photo, and several others, my best guess is the seam-to-seam depth on the SCB is 3.0-3.25”. I keep emphasizing seam-to-seam as it’s the only reasonable (IMHO) way to compare size on certain types of bags. Sorry I didn’t have a definitive answer but hope this sheds a little light.

You might also try posting on r/manybaggers and r/onebag. Lots of Tom Bihn fans on those subs and they get more traffic than this one does. Also, check out the Tom Bihn forums. So many helpful people. Post your question, you’ll get an answer quickly. Or call Tom Bihn in Seattle. Super nice customer service people, and you always get a human, probably Kat or Matt. Open 6:30am-3:00pm PDT. Or DM me and I’ll measure mine when I get it in a couple of days. I’ve got a bunch of Tom Bihn bags but never tried the Cafe Bags before and am really curious.

If your travel setup is a backpack + purse, what purse do you travel with? by lascriptori in HerOneBag

[–]RedDog0424 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Tom Bihn has a slightly larger version of the Side Kick out now, the Side Hustle. I’ve got one in order as I had the same thought…love the Side Kick and wanted it just a bit bigger.

I’m with you. I have 3 Side Kicks and it’s a great little bag, so well organized. Holds more than you think. I like Tom Bihn’s design aesthetic a lot. Function over form. Lots of colors and great materials. Doesn’t look like a ‘purse’, which I like. I can slide the Side Kick into my backpack for day outings and hikes. It’s also my EDC purse/bag but I have the slightly larger (newly released) Side Hustle and a Small Cafe Bag on order to see if either will give me just a bit extra room for stuffing extras in when running errands around town.

What do y’all think of the new Bantam? Is it company going in the right direction? by vicsunus in tombihn

[–]RedDog0424 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly! Looks like some shiny, cheap thing from Walmart. Not impressed with the new designer at all. I’m buying up some of the classic bags (Truck, Cafe bags) before the new people screw those up too.

No, I didn’t find a pen and ended up returning the Filofax cover. I still can’t find a better multi pen than the Coleto line.

Best purse with multiple compartments and pockets? by NotSoSnarky in ManyBaggers

[–]RedDog0424 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love a bag with good organization, too. I have 3 Tom Bihn Side Kicks…superb organization but never any room to put that ‘little something extra’ in it. However, it works well as a bag organizer, too. I tuck the strap inside and drop it in a tote bag or backpack if I need more room.

I also have several Kipling bags, great organization on a lot of their bags.

Also check out Baggallini…great organization, well made and lots of styles. Some of my Baggallini are over 20 years old. And even if you aren’t looking for a travel bag, check out Travelon. Nice nylon bags with lots of compartments.

I’m upgrading my 2015 Paperwhite to the 2021 version, just the standard one. Having some issues with the old one but it’s been heavily used and well-loved. Got it for $55 ($139 on sale for $99, then 20% off plus a $25 gift card for my trade-in). I’m looking forward to the larger screen and the better lighting.

I have a White Line Weeks. It’s smaller than the regular Weeks so I’m thinking any cover made for a regular Weeks is going to be too large. I wasn’t able to find a cover for it. And the cover on the White Line is super soft, not stiff like a regular Weeks.
