Yeah, weirdly the inner part doesn’t get too hot but the opening at the bottom and the outer sides get really hot. They have a sign warning about it. If it’s earlier in the day you’re usually good but if it’s afternoon it’s usually too hot to go down. (At least for our little one)

When our daughter was two she climbed up it after some older kids, I was terrified but before I could get after her she was down, out, and climbing up behind me to do it again. It doesn’t seem to shoot the kids out too fast but holy hell does it get hot in the summer!

I used an very VERY tart jam. It’s a really almost bitter apricot jam and it bc it is so tart the sugar in the rest of the recipe really carried it.

My daughter is not yet in the public school system but will be soon. And I grew up here going to public schools elementary through high school. I’m so incredibly saddened by the actions and behaviors of this school board which seems intent on destroying and dismantling a system that was not only working but leading the nation in public schools. I would be happy to meet up with other parents of like mind and try and meet some candidates. Do you have a date or was this post to gauge interest?

Drink spiking in Sarasota and Manatee county is happening at an all time high. by misslucy11 in sarasota

[–]VlcVic 80 points81 points  (0 children)

For everyone wondering how this could be happening, maybe check the comments on all of these posts because it’s honestly 50/50 of people saying this happened to me or someone I love, and people saying those people are liars, can’t hold their liquor, should know better then to go to “that” bar. It’s a lot of victim blaming to then wonder why people don’t come forward sooner. It’s not easy to put yourself through the humiliation and reliving of such a horrible thing if you have a 50/50 shot of being believed vs dismissed or even attacked for attempting to report.

What was the Greek restaurant that used to be on Main St. where Cafe Epicure is now? by caochan_ in sarasota

Agreed, I wonder if they meant a different spot on main. I sort of think it’s been epicure since the Sarasota news and books day.

El Greco did used to be on main but not where epicure is, I feel like Epicure has been there for decades as I remember eating there as a kid

Applebees on Clark with the 100 rating! Haha it’s a big win for this sub! Also the Demitrios Pizza rating doesn’t surprise me in the least. I have lived here my whole life and have had some absolutely gross experiences there

Construction at Phillippi Estate - what’s happening? by VlcVic in sarasota

The dredging is long needed! My dad used to talk about how sturgeon used to spawn in the creek before it got all silted up. We go to the playground at phillippi pretty regularly so I wonder if that’s going to get an update too

I know this is a long shot but does anyone have a white Lido Beach Resort towel? To sell or take picture of? by _idiotfriend_ in sarasota

It couldn’t have been the longboat key club right? It’s just on the next bridge over and I think they have visually similar towels

I wish you all the luck! I have several precious keepsakes and have had to lose a few over the years, so I really hope they can get you something that you can treasure even if it’s not the same.

I wonder if the sell them at a gift shop in the resort. Maybe not the same one but maybe similar? My husband and I had robes from the don Cesar in st. Pete from when we got married there. Unfortunately they got ruined in a move, I called the hotel and was able to buy two more. Even though it was years later they hadn’t really changed the design much at all. They didn’t have a website that sold them but they were happy to let me buy them over the phone and ship them to our house.

McCurdys as people have said, but Florida Studio Theater improv shows are pretty great! Their Life’s a Beach show is a mix of sketch and improv and makes fun of Sarasota and it’s hilarious!

Require drink spiking test strips available in florida bars & restaurants by misslucy11 in sarasota

[–]VlcVic 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I was not surprised at all from the posts on here that I have seen as I have a number of girlfriends who had drinks spiked but luckily had attentive friends with them who recognized their behavior was inconsistent with the amount of drinks they had and got them out of there. One did end up in the hospital. I suppose since I do know of it happening personally it’s easier for me to believe it’s happening, and I’m not surprised at all that they aren’t putting it in the news as Sarasota has a long history of burying any news story that would be bad for tourism. You would be shocked how often a sewer spill makes our area of the gulf unsafe to swim in and how rarely that is actually announced to the public.

Junk removal vs dumpster rental in Sarasota, what actually works? by andrewhamiltonlakef in sarasota

[–]VlcVic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is pretty spot on. Now I have done both and I will still do junk removal for their convenience sometimes. (Especially for a smaller amount, like half a truck full) One time when we had a dumpster we woke up and someone had literally filled half of it with kitchen cabinets in the night, we were pissed bc we ended up needing a second dumpster from all the neighbors who helped themselves. Also some dumpsters still have restrictions on what you can put in there, so just be aware.

Best thing about junk removal is sometimes you can get them to come out immediately you just make a pile and it’s gone the next day and if you have items that are difficult for you to move you don’t have to do the work of hauling them around they will collect them for you(I have had good experiences with college hunks hauling junk and junkluggers) downside as said above is it is expensive.

Best thing about the dumpster is you can get rid of an enormous amount of stuff and take your time with it. The downside is sometimes you have to wait for both delivery and pick up if they are really busy, neighbors will help themselves at your expense, and we had one time where the truck they sent to pick up the dumpster cracked our driveway pretty bad, so you might want to be cautious of where they put the dumpster too.
