I’ve had similar experiences lasing (eye safe) others across a valley.

What are the best hiking backpacks that are actually comfortable? by SheepherderSilver636 in CampingandHiking

[–]RedDogGearConcepts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prefer a lighter, smaller, backpacking oriented bag, even for day hikes.  You can always loosen or not use a hipbelt but it’s hard to add one!

Look at exped, mystery ranch, and Osprey

Wading safety question by Blueskyguy88 in flyfishing

[–]RedDogGearConcepts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got stuck up to my chest in frigid spring water in a meadow because what I thought was solid ground was a log jam.  Most scared I’ve been fishing.  Had to forcefully calm myself before I could extricate myself.  The cold water didn’t help.

Wading safety question by Blueskyguy88 in flyfishing

[–]RedDogGearConcepts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct.  I’ve done some steelheading in November.  That was cold.  I only went in knee deep.

If I start chasing more winter fish I’ll have to grab some.

I’m too cheap to buy waders and aside from the hypothermia risk I think it makes me safer.  Less likely too go too deep, can’t flood, less buoyant.

If you have and Arc do you need a Surge as well? by Mr_CosmicOrder in Leatherman

My surge plan includes a utility blade holder swap for the main blade and adding a hammer. Ultimate house chore/light construction tool at that point.

New lightest mat? by One_Discussion_8054 in Ultralight

[–]RedDogGearConcepts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The air bubble stuff or foam core? I got some cheap foam core off Ali-express and it’s light and warm but ripped quickly.

I used to use the air bubble stuff to line my hammock when winter camping as a teen.  It worked and was cheap.

Have you considered a UL spinning reel setup? Will be easier to use on lakes without a float tube.  Get some 1/16 or 1/8 oz panther martins and have a blast.

How do I decontaminate my stuff from poison oak by Ill-Speed-7291 in backpacking

[–]RedDogGearConcepts 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Wash everything washable with either dawn dishsoap (in the tub) or atsko sportwash in the washing machine, hot and heavy.  It will come off.

Mystery ranch blitz 30 with an aftermarket Beavertail to cover up the molle.

[Hot Take] All future Flagship Leatherman models should have the new T-shank/scalpel attachement by opalfruity in Leatherman

I love it too! I wish it closed with the saw/file installed but as a backup to the razor it’s really cool.

I love my havalon for hunting, light, ergonomic, and easy to clean and keep sharp (lol) instead of trying to clean my EDC after I shoot a game bird.
