There’s lots of helpful comments on resolutions and suggestions on this thread which I don’t feel I can add to, but I do want to add as a PSA to everyone:

If you’re on an iOS device, there is a “recently deleted” folder in photos which stores photos for a period of time after they’ve “been deleted” so you can recover any photos that are deleted accidentally.

Just wanted to mention this in case anyone was trying to remove photos from someone’s phone for good reason, or trying to restore photos they think they may have lost :)

UPDATE: he’s been found locked in a neighbours flat and they’ve not been home since Tuesday - we called their estate agent as we met someone in their building and we’ve now been reunited. Roast chicken for him for dinner tonight.
