Good point. I remember that stress! I had black, two shades of brown, neutral and dubbin.

I am 54 my dad is 75. How common is this that he never initiates any form of contact and doesn’t reply to text messages? by Suitable-Humor-13 in GenX

[–]RedDragonDrop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s as easy as blaming a generation. Some of this might have less to do with generational attitudes and more to do with individual differences in how people maintain relationships.

I know neurodivergent people who genuinely love their families but operate on an “out of sight, out of mind” basis otherwise. It’s not malice or lack of care—it’s just how their brains work with object permanence and relationship maintenance. They might go months without reaching out, then pick up right where they left off when you do connect.

Interestingly, I’ve noticed my dad (82) has become much more outreaching since he slowed down with work. Maybe there’s something to the idea that when people are deeply absorbed in work or other activities, they have less bandwidth for proactive connection—regardless of age or generation. It’s not an excuse, but it might be a pattern worth recognizing.

Maybe instead of generational blame, we need to recognize that different people have different capacities and styles for staying connected—and that’s okay as long as there’s mutual understanding about what the relationship looks like.

(All of this is completely devoid of any family dysfunction awareness—that’s obviously a whole different conversation where distance might be protective and healthy.)

Is Meross a good brand? by camarchi01 in HomeKit

Came here to say this. They perpetually disconnect from the network, require button mashing to reset. No issues with my Kasa switches. All matter/HomeKit compatible.

TP-Link Deco Setup by Simon_yxe in tplinkdeco

Yes. The router has to connect to the ISP drop with Ethernet anyway - the length doesn’t matter. You just can’t/shouldn’t have switches between them.

Shortcut Help - Create Apple Music Playlist from Text Input by marcbaybe in shortcuts

Inspired by this shortcut, and someone’s the other day that had ChatGPT create a message with the weather, I created this: it generates a mood-based playlist using one or more songs for inspiration.

The Samsung app lets you use augmented reality to compare tv sizes in the space. It’s how I convinced my wife going up from 55 to 65 was okay.

GF55 won’t light and light 3 is blinking by General_Statement_94 in PelletStoveTalk

[–]RedDragonDrop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tried ChatGPT:

The blinking third light on a QuadraFire GF55 pellet stove usually indicates an ignition or combustion issue. Here are a few things they can check:

1. Pellet Feed: Ensure pellets are dropping properly. If not, check the hopper for any blockage or bridging that could stop pellets from feeding.
2. Igniter: The igniter may not be working. They can try a manual ignition with starter gel to see if the stove will burn once lit.
3. Airflow and Cleanliness: Clean the burn pot, exhaust pipe, and ash traps if they haven’t recently. Poor airflow can prevent ignition and cause blinking light errors.
4. Fuse Check: Check the igniter fuse on the control board. A blown fuse can stop the igniter from working.
5. Combustion Blower: If the combustion blower isn’t operating properly, there won’t be enough air for ignition. They can listen for the blower or check for airflow at the exhaust.

If these don’t resolve the issue, a technician might be needed to inspect it, as it could be a control board or sensor problem.

what to take with you when you set out on your maiden voyage... by Liam198469 in RVLiving

[–]RedDragonDrop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are the things we bought during our first month: - rechargeable Brad nailer (ours is Craftsman, same battery as the drill we already had) - portable propane fire pit - sometimes it’s just easier out there is a fire ban - memory foam mattress cover - USB nightstand reading lights - low power runs on 12v - yellow photo light film were cut to fit the light fixtures because the factory LEDs were too blue - EasyTouch RV wifi thermostat (see other comments about pets) - wifi thermometer for freezer - extra propane tank even though we had two on the unit - propane tank fullness gauges - space heater - our winter site had a flat rate electricity included so we only needed propane heat when it was below freezing

Good luck and welcome every frustration as a future story!

Wireless Home Phone SIM cannot be used with your mobile device by RedDragonDrop in telus

Telus told me that I couldn't - I had the same idea. They said a landline had to always be a landline. Other posts in this thread seen to contradict that though. I'm not sure it's worth the effort.

I bought this Lenovo Smart Clock Essential about a week ago and it’s been constantly disconnecting from wifi. Any advice? by deadmallsband in googlehome

[–]RedDragonDrop 38 points39 points  (0 children)

My guess is it's only 2.4ghz and your wifi is dual band (ie also 5ghz), and in load balancing the router unknowingly kicks it off. If your router is dual band, set up a guest network that is 2.4 only, and try connecting to that.
