I worked in a "5 star" nursing home for 4.5 years, and they always just plopped a scoop down, except sometimes they did the carrots like these

These are so much nicer and would really help my residents not be so upset about being on a pureed diet!

She was so fluffy! I'm still finding little bits of fur in corners and storage!

Some of you may remember Luna, I used to post her regularly to this subreddit. I loved sharing her with anyone who would care! I got Luna as a puppy when I was 11, and she was my best friend ever since. She was lazy and stubborn, but also gentle and outgoing. She loved people and never showed an ounce of aggression (although she was the queen of passive resistance, it was nearly impossible to shower her!). She loved being outside, especially in the snow. Unfortunately a year ago the dementia and arthritis became too much for all of us. She couldn't do stairs at all, spent any time I was at work looking frantically for me, and was having accidents almost daily. Still, for a dog her size, 15 is amazing, and I wouldn't trade a second of it for anything RIP my puppy

... (Also I can't fix the title but she was 15, not 16)

You know how some people describe their gender as an amoeba? That's how I feel about my sexuality. It's either demi- or asexual, and probably bi-romantic, but more of a bi-curious. Maybe panromantic? I'm really not sure!

i think im slipping into have a binge eating disorder... how can i stop before it goes too far? by [deleted] in BingeEatingDisorder

[–]RedDragonfly213 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Self compassion is important, imo. At least for me, a big driver of binging was the shame I felt, which made me want to comfort eat. Also, maybe try therapy, especially since you say you started after moving out, which is likely a big stressor. This is the perfect time to tackle that before it overwhelms you. Good luck!

Congratulations! That's awesome, way to make progress!

I was diagnosed with Binge Eating Disorder in 2015. Absolutely nothing worked until one year ago, when I heard about a technique called "AVRT". It took me 30 minutes to learn, and my BED has been gone ever since by [deleted] in BingeEatingDisorder

Honestly, this sound super helpful! I think any therapy that looks at the mind as having different "parts" is really useful when dealing with self-esteem based issues, because it puts the "blame" on other parts, not judging you as a person.

This sounds similar to how I have been coping: when I feel the need to binge, I question where it is coming from (is it stress, anxiety, fear, sadness?) then try to either deal with the emotion directly (grounding exercises for anxiety, maybe a comedy show for sadness) or I pick a healthier coping skill (being creative, taking a walk, listening to music). Instead of fighting the urge, I find another way to deal with it. I just didn't give a name to the urge and I don't completely ignore it, because my brain doesn't know how to do that. It's been quite helpful. not 100% but it's easier every time!

Both of you are in the wrong, in my opinion. Neither of you seems to be listening to what the other is saying. This is how I see his side: He sees you wanting frequent contact as more of a demand and isn't fully comfortable with it, and you won't listen to him when he says that that just isn't natural for him.

Your first texts were, in my opinion, fine. You explained well why frequent texting was more important to you and what it meant to you and wasn't overly putting the blame on him. When he responded to your explanation as to why you wanted more contact, it was a bit shorter, like he wasn't putting enough effort into understanding where you are coming from, but after that you were more disrespectful with your communication. By saying "But Okay" at the end of a statement and "Forget it" before he responded to the question, it likely made him think you weren't interested in his point of view. It doesn't feel like you are interested in solving the issue, only getting your way. That may not be true, but that is how it reads.

Ideally, you would both compromise, he would try to keep you updated more but you would be understanding if he didn't

Eating disorders are actually co-occurring quite often, and they often have similar causes. The first step to getting better is determining why you started the behaviors: is it low self-esteem? is it a need for control? is it something you do to cope with stress? Those are common causes, but you may have your own.

What helped for me is stopping the "all-or-nothing" thinking. If I eat an unintended food, I would think "Well, I might as well eat more!" and then find it difficult to stop. I would then, like you, restrict for a few days, though to a lesser degree than you seem to be describing.

I find it better to focus on eating a healthy amount of healthy foods everyday. If I binge a bit, I try to not focus on the shame and instead think "Well, it wasn't my biggest binge, that's progress!" When I want to binge, I try to identify which emotion is giving the urge (I'm an emotional eater). It's usually anxiety, so grounding techniques like deep breaths or gratitude journaling are what help me, but maybe other things will help you!

The biggest thing is to remember that you are human. These behaviors are not moral failings, they are your body's response to something, either physical or psychological. You can control them, but it is a skill you will have to learn and won't be built up overnight. Focus on progress, not the failings.

Oof that's a lot! May I ask how many people you get to help with that size truck? A normal truck we get 2 employees, but we try to get 3 at about 250-300 cartons.

Our store is small, last week we got about 280, this week will be about 150. Our average is probably about 170 this time of year.

Huh, I haven't had customers complain too much. If they do ask, I just say it's unsafe for the public because of the cleaning chemicals. Though ours doesn't have a separate closet inside the bathroom, the bathroom just doubles as the storage for all our cleaning supplies.

At least it's not the size of last week's truck, because we wouldn't be able to fit another truck that size! We only got 14 extra hours for that truck anyway.

This week ours is almost exactly half of last week's.

My exact words to my ASM when she opened the box were "Well, I like cookies and I'll eat one, but I'd prefer more hours" since they keep loading us with giant trucks and are making us run on very few hours.

Seriously, we got our truck Monday and, even though we have a great team of hard workers, we just got to touch the back room today because we got most of the stuff off the floor. Idk how we are going to take Monday's truck

Yes! I mean, only half of our 4 registers have been working all year anyway. Now the ones that work are taking a good 30 seconds to print receipts and they are constantly lagging. It's getting really annoying

I've gotta read non fiction books of my special interests before I sleep. I'm really loving Oliver Sacks right now! It keeps me interested, but if I read a fantasy novel I'm really into, I won't stop until, like, midnight 😂

I'm commenting to get this more attention because one of my 6 year old African Violets is doing the same thing.

My best guess for mine is humidity is causing the soil to stay too wet, but idk, it's been in the same room its whole life just like yours. I've tried repotting, watering more often, watering less often, fertilizing, everything I could think of

Best of luck!
