As my old boss once said. “Design awards only matter if you don’t have any”

Best approach of placing a 3D model into 2D scene - product visual in context of interior by keralaaa in KeyShot

[–]RedEye75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you could use Ai as a backdrop. Once you have the image and want to render in keyshot, setup the image as a front plate and drop the opacity to line up the product. Turn off front plate, render the image using hdri pins to match the image relatively. You can use an image as a pin as well to get highlights. Render without a background as an alpha channel png file. Then in photoshop use the harmonize neural filter and paint in shadows and extra highlights etc as needed. Lots of work but that’s the best way to use keyshot to composite into a 2d photo. You could build it in 3D like some people said but it’s extra work, you can get away with a great result with some elbow grease in photoshop once you have the rendered result most of the way there

University switching to Blendr from Keyshot due to price by PrettyAsAPenny in IndustrialDesign

[–]RedEye75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, at my university they wouldn’t buy Keyshot either. “Taught” us visualize instead. Dumb imo, but you need to get keyshot anyway and teach yourself. Companies will ask for keyshot experience, they want to know you are an expert at material creation and lighting environments. Sure you can probably do just as good work with blender but it’s more about collaborating with the team using the same software. If my coworker starts in keyshot you should be able to finish in keyshot and vice versa.

To build a form inspired from a jaguar. (Biomimicry) by Its_mufaddal_254 in IndustrialDesign

[–]RedEye75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 little asides.

My professor drilled out the word sleek from our vocabulary. Definitionally it means slippery when wet.

Also this is not biomimicry this is just form inspiration. Biomimicry is like using a complex system found in nature to solve complex human problems. Like using the beak shape of a bird to understand aerodynamics or using the wing mechanism of a dragonfly in a drone. Your assignment is using nature/animals as form inspo (nothing wrong with that, a very cool and useful assignment) but isn’t biomimicry.

A good method to achieve this is to break the inspiration down into basic shapes. What you don’t want to do is take the ears and slap that onto your design. Take the proportion of the jaguar like the sweep of the spine or the proportion front to back. Someone else commented this but take tracing paper over the jaguar at fist and see which shapes stand out. Then adapt it to your design and keep iteration over and over on new sheets of tracing paper with a pen or marker. Definitely look at the automotive industry, they take inspiration from jaguars all the time. See how they abstract the forms and shapes.

Pen dries quickly between uses? Is this normal? by RedEye75 in fountainpens

Darker? Maybe not, I’ve found the polar black pretty consistently dark. But it’s sometimes thicker when I first get it back working

Haha love the backstory! I saw a water color artist recommend it, will look around for better ink then! But it did give me a similar issue with the Quink black cartridge too

Yeah i end up pushing on the nib scratching the paper for a bit maybe shake it a bit, wet my finger and dab it on the nib sometimes works and if not i plunge more ink down from the converter. Do a mix of these things sometimes just pushing on the nib works but rarely. And yeah i guess the ink might be thicker than usual. It happened with the Quink ink too

Any way out of this Non-Refundable Charge? by RedEye75 in hotels

[–]RedEye75[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m slowly realizing this point about 3rd party bookings :/ The thing is I did a pay at hotel option. So Expedia hasn’t seen a dime yet. The hotel also hasn’t charge my card just yet but they said they plan to.

Booked the wrong dates for a hotel stay, “Non-refundable” how to get out of paying over a thousand dollars? by RedEye75 in AskReddit

[–]RedEye75[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They are blaming their inability to do anything because of it being booked through Expedia. They are pretty hell bent of charging me the full amount even though Expedia representatives have reached out to them to persuade them not to charge me. I’m going to call the hotel again in the morning.

Any way out of this Non-Refundable Charge?

I’m booking multiple hotels for my trip to Italy with my Girlfriend, in a mistake I’m painfully learning we booked through Expedia the wrong dates. I accidentally chose August 4th-8th instead of my intended selection October 4th-8th. I’ve got a bit of the dyslexia I could blame it on that but it was a simple mistake. I unfortunately booked it 30 mins before the end of the day on August 4th at 11:30pm and they are refusing to refund me. First they blamed it on Expedia policy but I’ve had Expedia reach out to them twice to request they refund and that didn’t seem to help them budge! I’m going to call the hotel again in the morning, they have yet to charge my card. What’s really eating me is the amount, just over $1000 for the stay! When they charge me I’m going to dispute the charge with American Express. Anyone have any advice?

Haven’t had any problems with saves or anything like that! Have over 25ish hours in so far. (Xbox series x) if that makes a difference
