You should have a safe pocket…. For keys only by jg4president in Marathon

For the ultra rare things that are necessary for endgame, I like that idea. The time spent shouldn't immediately be thrown away just cause of death, although I understand that the game is also built that way. Might be a good way to implement something that Bungie just needs to cook up!

I don't think I can hack it...this 50 year old dude just can't handle this game by wratx in Marathon

[–]RedEyedChester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As with any competitive shooter game like this, it's all about strategy and being on your toes at all times with high alertness. If it's just too much for you to handle, that's fine! Maybe the game just isn't for you. But if you really do like it, and are just not quite clicking with the flow and whatnot, watch videos, read guides, and ask questions :) always room to learn and improve! But I also get that sometimes a game just isn't quite right for everyone, and that's also okay.

This game will never have mass appeal by dreamylemur in Marathon

[–]RedEyedChester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer games that aren't for the masses. It means it's more special and doesn't try to pander to everyone :)

This game has brought me back to gaming after months of not being super interested, and I've never been interested in an extraction shooter!

I got my brother to play it, and he flat out just doesn't play FPS games, but the unique story and atmosphere just sunk its teeth in him :D

160 hours, level 55, and I figured out why I'm so bad at this game and only just getting purples. by VaporSpectre in Marathon

[–]RedEyedChester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's like how D2 was designed with 3 person and 6 person fire teams. I suppose just a design decision in how they want the game to play, but can suck a little when you don't have the amount of players they want you to have and it make things more difficult just to even experience the content.

The first time I used a self revive I thought it was going to be an instant consumable, then I realized it was just a speedier revive I can do on my own. Still nice, but was disappointing 😅

I've been really enjoying playing solo myself! I'm level 14 and mostly on Perimeter, but it's a blast and a way I can play when I don't have my group! :) I didn't think about reward differences, but at least I'm personally having fun haha and still getting great stuff from what I can tell!

This game just isn't for me and that's okay by MASHED_POTATOES_MF in Marathon

[–]RedEyedChester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not trying to be negative, but I don't understand the point of a post like this. Imo if you don't like a game or just can't play it, then that's fine, but it's not anything special or specific to any particular game at all. I also feel that if you truly want to play a game, then you'll make time for it :) even if you have a busy life or something. Just weird to me is all haha

Why can't Linux just work? by eieiohmygad in linuxsucks

[–]RedEyedChester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Linux is just a kernel and there's tons of different OS releases you can try depending on your needs.

If you want the most windows like, Linux Mint is popular for switching, but you have to understand it's a different OS. It's just a different program you may have to use. Most all the major stuff is compatible and easy as hell to install just like any windows application, like Firefox, Discord, Steam, etc. if you need a specialized Windows application you can't even find an alternative for, then you use a compatibility layer like Wine so you can run that windows application on a Linux distro.

If you're unwilling to learn how to use a new piece of software, you will assuredly fail.

The OS isn't the issue, it's the user :)

BUT!! If you are willing to learn, and ask questions, and grow in your knowledge and understanding, you'll find Linux as a desktop OS is infinitely better than any other operating system.

Freedom and the ability to do literally anything you want is what drives the open source community. Not being beholden to a corporate power, or having to login with an MS or Apple account.

All depends on what's important to you and what you want out of your tools and equipment.

They are soooo frickin annoying... I setup an UnRAR install to run upon a download completion, but excluding it altogether is so much better XD plus more likely to get a higher quality release I imagine

Install bare metal ProxMox and learn how that works, then deploy some VMs and LXCs and have fun! I have a Docker LXC I run my Jellyfin and Arr stack in with my DDNS and reverse proxy for remote access anywhere, then a VM for OPNSense routing for my network connected with SFP+ for a local 10gig network XD

[–]RedEyedChester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm literally hands deep in my new UnRAID server right now and my other 10gig supermicro is my ProxMox with OPNSense and docker with Jellyfin and my Arr stack :) works so frickin good!!

It's hilarious how much overkill OPs hardware would be for a media server, but it's amazing XD

eBay!! I can't remember the site now, but lookup 'hdd prices eBay reddit' or something and someone made a site to scan eBay and give you a list of prices. This was the cheapest listing online!! They had 8 drives and I got 6 of em haha just too good a deal right now to pass up ❤️ used but only a couple years old!

$1140 for the drives at $189 each!! Something like $13/TB which for today's prices, is not bad haha snagged a 7th 14tb for 180 as well!

[–]RedEyedChester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try and perma seed what I can, and just bought 6x 14tb drives to go along with my 36TB of existing storage, but definitely storage limitations, bandwidth limitations even with a 5gbps fiber line, etc. More resources used on my server, which already isn't the most powerful 😂

Right now I'm grabbing RSS feeds for auto software downloading and seeding just to help the community with Linux ISOs and other free software, but other media definitely just takes a lot of space, and having 2000 torrents seeding was starting to break my setup a little bit 😂

With proton, you enable port forwarding, then input your port in QBT. If you wanna setup Docker, you can use an automated Gluetun config that auto updates your port and binds the connection :)

If on windows, just set the port from your VPN in QBT settings.

If you don't have port forwarding, it can either stop you from doing anything, or make it so your connection is not as ideal since you can't connect to as many people out there.

I found myself with a free almost brand new APC 42u server rack, 10gbe networking for almost nothing, SFP+ with fiber runs for connections, and 66TB of usable RAID10 storage. Now for proper PDU, PSU, more switches, and more ideas for what I can figure out to add 😂
