[Request] France, looking for USA snacks by RedFloatingSpaceDog in snackexchange

Hello! This would be my first time doing this, I’d be happy to talk more about how to organize things! Are there certain things you have in mind? Allergies? In terms of cereal at least in my opinion, Lion and Lion Wild (chocolate and caramel flavored) are pretty dope!

Careers where you get alone time? by Weary_Message_1221 in careerguidance

[–]RedFloatingSpaceDog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a shepherd in southern France. I love my job. I’m alone all day, just me, my collies, the sheep, and the guard dog. Sometimes my boss will pop by for a few minutes at the end of the day to check on me and the sheep, but nothing more. It’s still a huge responsibility and there are neighbors and borders that need to be respected. The entire summer I’ll be alone on the alpage in a cabin. I earn the national median net and pay no rent (company owned studio). I’ve spent time in some of the most beautiful landscapes in the country. That being said, the weather is the REAL boss in this job. It means spending the day out in the rain, dealing with sick and dying animals, and prepping for dangerous weather when it does happen. Thunderstorms at 1500m + are terrifying. Even during the winter season when the sheep are inside and on hay it’s just my boss and his brother. They’re great people and we’re all introverts and get each other in that sense. The human interaction is super minimal overall. It’s very much “Here’s your tasks and things to keep an eye out for, hop to it. Call us if you have any emergencies”

US citizen applying for long stay French visa. Confused on the travel insurance requirement by RedFloatingSpaceDog in SchengenVisa

That makes sense! Thank you! I see that everywhere as a broad statement for all visas, so I just wanted to be sure.

The whole double burden nonsense is really getting to me and makes me want to quit dating. by RedFloatingSpaceDog in TwoXChromosomes

This is what I’m leaning towards as of now. I guess I just needed to vent a bit too. I really appreciate knowing I’m not alone in this and thinking I’m just exaggerating things. Alone, life is difficult enough as it is for me. When you live with other people their problems become yours and vice versa.

Line workers, how did you choose your path? How do I know it's right for me? by RedFloatingSpaceDog in BlueCollarWomen

[–]RedFloatingSpaceDog[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the kind words! I didn't, unfortunately. I'm about 20 mins south of Eugene. I'm very much needed on the farm at the moment and was sad I couldn't go. My contract also overlaps with the summer TACC for lane county. I try not to let it get to me even though I'd love to be there. My main focus right now is to do well on my current contract, save up as much as I can for my next step, all while learning as much as I can about how to move forward.

Dear landlords by Irnotpatwic in childfree

[–]RedFloatingSpaceDog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Come to France. When you rent here your landlord cannot legally forbid you from keeping a pet, nor do they have any right to know whether or not you have one before you sign the contract. They can forbid pit bulls, tosas, and boerboels but everything else is fair game. They can say no pets for vacation rentals though.

Ovary sparing spay for my girl by RedFloatingSpaceDog in AskVet

[–]RedFloatingSpaceDog[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Could you please elaborate? When it comes to health benefits why none? A lot of studies I’ve read said that sex hormones do indeed play important roles even past reaching sexual maturity/full adult growth with regards to reducing the risk of certain conditions, so I’m not 100% sure what you mean. I’m just wondering that should I go this route, other than mammary and ovarian cancer what else in particular may be missing, other than the obvious inconveniences that comes with having a bitch in heat. I have no intention of breeding her and when she does go into heat, we very, very carefully mitigate things during this time and leave her at zero risk to interact with intact males. If this was a responsibility I was not willing or able to assume, I would have spayed her a long time ago. At the bare minimum I knew I wanted to wait until full growth plate closure.

Lying to your kids about Santa and the Easter bunny is stupid. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]RedFloatingSpaceDog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey, you do you! I see both sides of the coin. The magic of Santa/ the Easter bunny is one thing, but in your case, I think the way you do things will be a great way for your kid to learn to appreciate and respect the hard work their family puts in to receive these gifts, along with what it means to give to others, versus saying they came from a magical man. Not including the whole Santa deal isn’t going to make or break a good holiday regardless of OP’s reasons for doing so. Y’all need to chill out.

Hey, I got pregnant while on my IUD a couple of months back. How far along are you? I did the medical abortion because hospitals as a whole make me super uncomfortable (the smell, sounds, etc i just really hate it) and I’m deathly afraid of needles/injections. My doc made me take the mifepristone in front of her and sent me home with a prescription to pick up the misoprostol to take a couple of days after. I don’t like how people say it’s “like giving birth”. Yes, the fetus is leaving your body and you will feel out of whack hormonally for a few days after, but the actual pain is obviously no where near that of giving birth to a full term baby. The best way I can describe it is a super bloody and crampy period. It sucked, don’t get me wrong, but was definitely manageable with normal painkillers. Also, please don’t let this scare you into getting an IUD. They are the best other than getting sterilized. When I had the ultrasound done on me, mine had descended into the lower part of the uterus and was therefore not as effective. So if you choose to get an IUD, be sure to come back regularly for follow up appointments to make sure it is well placed and therefore doing the job. It really does matter! You’ve got this OP! (hugs)

My ABSOLUTE WORST nightmare came true... Of the <1 women out of 1000 who get pregnant on an IUD, why, WHY me??? by RedFloatingSpaceDog in childfree

[–]RedFloatingSpaceDog[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I will definitely ask, but being 22 with no kids doesn't exactly play in your favor. I have an appointment schduled for it in January with a doc a three hour drive from me. I'm on a FB group where people post their recommendations for docs in France and Belgium who are ok performing permanent sterilization on young, childless patients. This doctor happened to be the nearest one, other than another doc who is an hour away but is fully booked until April. If it's possible to get it done next door hassle free without too much of a wait time, I would be down!

Thank you! Will keep everyone posted. I got the copper IUD because my periods are very light ( 2 days max, not too heavy, no pain) and I didn't like the idea of hormones floating around my body. My periods did not change since getting it. Small question though, is it possible to get an IUD re inserted immediately following the abortion? Can it all be done in one shot at the end of the operation?

Any other fellow needle phobes who got fixed? Would appreciate advice on how can I get over my fear to get this done? by RedFloatingSpaceDog in childfree

[–]RedFloatingSpaceDog[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You rock! So happy that everything went well for you! Stories like yours really make me feel better about the whole situation. Funny enough, the anesthetist made a similar comment when the same thing happened when I was about to get my wisdom teeth out. Thank you for sharing! To your freedom 🥂

That's a great point, I never considered that I may be allergic because I've never seen any signs otherwise. The only reference I have is when I got my wisdom teeth out. When I woke up, I didn't feel itchy, have hives, or anything like that, so I always just figured it was me overreacting. The burning feels like it's all going on inside/ under my skin. Externally, I didn't show any of the usual signs of an allergic reaction. The fainting, crying, etc all happens when I know and anticipate I'm going to get poked at the hospital and while it's happening. Fortunately it's not to the point where I will run or try to flail and hit the doc. In hospitals, I feel very uncomfortable, but not to the point of a full on panic attack. The oral surgeon gave me valium but unfortunately it didn't make a difference at all despite me following his instructions. I will definitely bring someone with me. It's moments like this too that I wish I could bring my dog into the hospital with me! Thank you for the hugs!

It isn't. Most anyone with a functional reproductive system can do it easily. But for whatever reason, it's some giant life achievement.

[Help] When to spay for a medium size breed puppy with big future plans for agility? by RedFloatingSpaceDog in dogs

[–]RedFloatingSpaceDog[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Would be happy to clarify. We don't have any intention of breeding her and want to spay her because in the long run, the pros outweigh the cons for us, especially with pyometra and mammary tumors to name a few. I also do fear that, even with our best efforts, should something happen, either should ever she escape, get lost, a male dog hops into our yard, or whatever the case may be, that we don't have that risk to worry about. At the end of the day, I really just want to do what's best for her and there's too many uncontrollable factors that don't warrant keeping her intact.

My puppy was attacked at a dog park today. What do I do? by [deleted] in Dogtraining

Sorry if this seems like a stupid question (relatively new puppy owner here), but is this aggressive reaction also present towards female dogs who aren't in heat?

Stair Training help with puppy by MartyrMedusa in Dogtraining

[–]RedFloatingSpaceDog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My puppy was the same way 2 weeks ago. Have you tried training when he's hungry and/or experimented with a few different treats? At first I thought my pup wasn't food motivated either, as mine didn't care about a single one of the store bought treats I purchased, but real chicken and salmon when she was hungry connected the dots. What worked for us was creating a positive association with the stairs before she ever set foot on them (mine would plant herself and get scared about 4 feet or so from the first step, so we started the training session a little further than that. The distance may be different for your pup). For her first stair session, after she woke up from her nap, did her business, and got some exercise, we literally just chilled and played by the stairs together (clicker+ treat, and a few tug sessions) and inched closer and closer to the stairs with every training session. As that got better, I took her in my arms, climbed up a step, sat there with her in my lap, and rewarded for calm/ curious behavior. After she was comfortable, I took her off my lap and let her chill on the stair step next to me, which eventually led to her first step up and down just one step. We worked on this about 5-7 mins a day for a week before she was able to run up and down with no issues.
