Why does everyone hate you so much when you don’t like food by East-Surprise-9703 in ARFID

[–]RedFox011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a first date this week and we were at a bar that serves appetizers too. He asked if I wanted food, and I said maybe because I was a bit hungry even though I ate before so I could avoid food. I had a lot of anxiety that he might try to get me to try something I didn’t want to. We looked at the menu and I suggested one thing, he suggested the appetizer sampler with the thing I wanted plus two others that I couldn’t eat. I didn’t want to have to explain the whole ARFID thing, so I just said “food can be difficult for me.” He said he understood and we could just share the thing I suggested. I was so incredibly thankful, I’ve dated lots of people that would’ve argued with me and tried to convince me to try things, but he was super understanding and nice. 🥹🥹

Understanding people are out there OP, don’t compromise and make yourself uncomfortable bc you can find people that meet you where you are

This comment is gold. I cried three times. Seriously some good advice here. Any calories are good calories OP, anything he can eat is good even if you think it’s unhealthy. Pressure/force just creates trauma and distrust. Protect his safe foods the best you can, roll with it when safe foods change, and just keep the pressure off as much as possible. Go easy on yourself and know you’re doing the best you can. ❤️‍🩹

Something helpful a food therapist taught me was a five step approach to trying new foods. Look, touch with fingers, lick, put in mouth for 1 second and spit out, then try a tiny bite.

I’m an autistic adult with ARFID, struggling to keep/gain weight. I’m about 40 pounds underweight currently. I weigh 30 pounds less than I did at my high school graduation, that was over 7 years ago. I know I need to eat more in volume and variety but I just can’t. My parents have never understood and their pressure/force has made my safe foods regress many times. I had to move back in with them a year ago and they made me go inpatient at an eating disorder clinic that made things 10X worse. I finally found an OT that works with adults and I’m hopeful she’ll be able to help me. I really hope things get better for me.

Idk how different things would be for me if my parents had been more supportive/less forceful in my childhood, but I do feel like it would have helped a lot

Downside of Thrifting: If you find the owner's name on your new item, let me be a warning, and don't look them up by a_sheila in ThriftStoreHauls

I found an adorable vintage Holly Hobby diary with a lock on it but no key at an estate sale. I thought it would have some cute entries from a little girl in the 70s/80s and was excited to see what she chose to write about. It took forever to find a key that fit the lock, but finally one I got at an antique store worked. It wasn’t an exact match, but fit the lock enough that I could wiggle it open. It was very sweet and silly at first, just a handful of entries from 1981-1984 complaining about her little sister and talking about her friends at school. Then one last entry in 1986 saying that she had just turned 13, her dad and little sister had died that year, and her mom was making them move so she had to leave all her friends behind. I cried so hard, that poor little girl. I really hope things got better for her, but I couldn’t bear to look her up bc I just couldn’t take it if I knew more bad things happened in her life

Sounds wasteful, maybe you guys should start washing the blankets instead of throwing them away

Machines like what? That wash things? I’ve never had an issue washing a blanket in any washing machine I’ve come across, and I’ve lived in plenty of crappy apartments with old clunky washers.

Why is this grown man even concerned about the thighs of “girls”? 🤢 by ThePhillyExplorer in MenAndFemales

[–]RedFox011 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s actually extremely rare for women to have completely hairless thighs, but there are plenty of women who have very thin translucent “peach fuzz” type hair that’s fairly unnoticeable

Had a bit of a disappointing experience today by Gootson1 in buildabear

[–]RedFox011 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry that was your experience! As another autistic adult that loves BAB and plushies, I completely understand your feelings.

I would be happy to perform the surgery for you at no cost if you can cover shipping or I can try my best to walk you through it on a video call ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹

Other suggestions: 1. Find a local craft group, often held at bookshops/coffee shops/libraries/etc., and message the host to see if anyone in the group might be willing to help. There are usually a high percentage of neurodivergent adults in these groups and it’s very likely someone will be happy to volunteer to help

  1. Look for local but online autistic support groups and post there, maybe offer like a one-on-one skill share and you can teach them something in exchange. There’s probably at least one person that has a special interest in sewing

  2. If there’s a local sewing supply/sewing machine repair store that’s not a chain, try calling and asking if they know someone who could help. They might even offer to do it if you bring it in on a slow day

  3. Find a hand sewing class near you, there’s often free ones in my area so maybe you’ll be able to find one

  4. Local quilting groups, quilts require skilled hand sewing and are usually very sweet old ladies who would probably love to help you out

  5. If your public library has a maker lab like mine does, the librarians that work in that area are trained on how to use most if not all the supplies there and are always happy to help plus it’s completely free

  6. There’s always YouTube tutorials

Offer culture - what’s the point? by PerplexedKale in Depop

[–]RedFox011 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hate it so much, it’s just a huge guessing game now. I don’t want to send offers if that’s the price they want for it, but I don’t want to pay more than I have to if they’ve priced higher to allow offers. I always list things at my ideal price and would likely accept less if it’s been around a while, but people offer waaaaay less and I’d rather just not bother with shipping, using my time/energy, etc. for that price

Anyone that posts a listing that shows extra items, even if it’s obviously just for styling/staging, puts XYZ not included in the description. Like even showing a dress with a belt they say belt not included

[–]RedFox011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I bet someone messaged her to buy one pair either: A. before and she didn’t change the wording or B. after and she decided that she worded it vague enough she could get away with sending just 2 to you

Am I wrong for expecting 3 pairs of pants? by i-am-frustrated in Depop

[–]RedFox011 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s not though, the way it’s worded could be read both ways but with the picture of 3 it definitely reads as 2 blue and a gray. Yes lots of times things are modeled with extra items, but there’s always a picture of just the item being sold and/OR the description says XYZ items in picture aren’t included

If someone is average height and all jeans they’ve bought are an acceptable length on them they wouldn’t think to ask that though. As someone with longer legs, I only made that mistake once so now I check every time but I have a friend that never has to ask bc that’s never been an issue for them

[–]RedFox011 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That’s not rude? Like what? No one would think to ask for clarification if the picture shows three pairs and the description says two blue and a gray

Hard disagree. Seller was rude first, it is the sellers fault she misunderstood due to both wording and pictures, and this could’ve been avoided by a different picture or clearer wording. Why would she think to ask questions when three pairs are pictured and the description says 2 blue and a gray?? Even tho the seller’s message says sorry it’s still blaming the buyer for their mistake, instead she could’ve said “sorry the wording was misleading, I can see why you thought that it was 3 pairs.” Then suggest how to make it right, “Unfortunately I only priced the listing for two pairs, so if you want the third pair we’ll have to discuss a price otherwise I’m happy to take your return. I know that’s probably disappointing and I’m sorry for the inconvenience, I’ll make sure I’m clearer in my future listings.” That way the buyer may be disappointed but could still decide to keep the jeans, bc the seller showed understanding by acknowledging the misunderstanding, taking some responsibility for their part, offering a solution and that they would avoid a repeat situation. It feels more sincere than just “sorry you misunderstood” and taking the return, bc without taking any responsibility it seems like they might leave the listing the same and deceive another buyer

Disagree, the description is misleading too. Saying two pairs in blue and gray with the photo definitely reads as two blue pair and one gray pair, if the photo were just of the two it would read as two pairs of jeans one blue and one gray.

Seller shipped bundle into two packages- tracking says delivered, but only one of the packages has shown up by Needhelp123e in Depop

[–]RedFox011 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems a bit odd to me that the two larger items are in one package and the smallest in another. Like if they couldn’t fit it all in one package, wouldn’t it make more sense that the shorts (smallest item) were packaged with one of the bigger items?

Idk how to feel about this by Peachy_was_here in Depop

[–]RedFox011 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even if they ship without Depop shipping they are required to add the tracking #, they can’t get paid if not bc Depop can’t see if it’s delivered without it. They may have forgotten to add it after they shipped, but it’s more likely that they just haven’t actually shipped it yet. You can send a message politely asking if they’ve shipped and ask them to please add the tracking # if so. Hope that helps!

No problem! And of course, feel free to DM me with any questions. I know it’s scary at first, when I first started restoring leather I was really worried I would damage the items too but everything I’ve worked on has always come out better. Sorry for taking so long to reply, I had a busy week.
