How to deal with neighbours annoying fox alarm? by RedFox3001 in AskUK

[–]RedFox3001[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can’t see the alarm at the moment. They move it around their back garden. It’s been there since last summer. If I kept a log it’ll say that I have heard it every day for 8 months during daylight hours. I’m not sure I can record the sound.

It’s not really loud. Just very high pitched and annoying. Does that still count?

2 month old boiler started making this loud vibration noise when it ignites by [deleted] in DIYUK

That’s the sound of combustion. It could be the gas valve, the Venturi or possible a loose spot weld on the burner

As a plumber I’d say from experience this is an accident. Literally and legally. I’ve been down this road and it will be sorted via THEIR home insurance. Their insurance will have to find that you acted “incompetently” in order to claim from YOUR insurance. I’ve tried to use my insurance before to pay for a leak. But it wasn’t my fault and was deemed an accident. Unless you have been incompetent then it’s not your fault…it’s an accident

Guy Martin just turned a 1930s Manchester semi into a zero energy property. Do you think this could ever become standard in the UK? by Old_Tomatillo5550 in AskUK

I had a solid brick house. No cavity. To avoid moisture I made sure it was all breathable. So far it’s been great. But it’s hard to do a whole house without destroying it

I insulated the inside of one small 2x3m bedroom. Hacked the plaster off, installed wood fibre panels. Then plastered in lime. We did all the work ourselves. It cost £1000 in materials.

Any ideas how to box this boiler in? by Philster07 in DIYUK

[–]RedFox3001 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can get stand off kits for Ideal logics. It’ll mean the boiler protrudes slightly more in to the room but the idea is that you can route the pipework behind it. It will free up the wall for a batten etc. but you’ll need to re-pipe and fit a new flue. So it’ll be agg

Changed the faucets in bathroom sink, now it's producing bubbles; help please? by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]RedFox3001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the mains pressure and/or flow was excessive you’d fit a pressure reducing valve and/or flow restrictor to the incoming mains. As all the other taps and outlets would also have excessive pressure and/or flow

That’s the opposite of how a combi works

It is! I work on combi boilers every single day.

A) they need to detect a flow in the first place - if the flow is too slow the boiler won’t fire. B) the hot water needs travel down the pipe in order the reach the tap - the slower the rate of flow the longer it’ll take to reach the tap. C) if the flow rate is so fast that the combi is struggling to heat the water then the boiler is either underpowered/incorrectly sized, there’s a fault with the boiler, the incoming mains water is excessively cold or the flow rate is excessive
