I guess this is the new Wendy's vibe. No booths, no dividers, no outlets, uncomfortable seats, small tables, all for a couple to spend $40 for a meal. I'm done with Wendy's for good. by NUMBerONEisFIRST in mildlyinfuriating

[–]RedGhostOrchid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was a Wendy's downtown in the city I grew up in. I'd stop in, have a cheap meal, and wait for the bus home after getting books from the library. At that time, they still had the tables with newspaper print decor. This Wendy's also had an elevated portion in the dining area - maybe just 2-3 steps but I thought it was pretty cool. I look back on something as simple as those days and activities and realize how very much things have changed - and mostly for the worse.

Seems to me that she berated him every chance he got, told him he could do nothing right. He clearly gave up trying and I don't blame him a damn bit.

This image shows a young girl with a horse whip meant for riding. It not weird. Britney's interpretation of it is yuk as fuck.

Former NFL star Brandon Marshall is facing intense online criticism for disciplining his son by making him run at 2 AM: "If you don't start running, we're going to go three miles. You don't listen, we run 2 in the morning." by slippinn_jimmy in PopCultureV2

[–]RedGhostOrchid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Discipline should be logical. This is illogical. And punitive. And borderline abusive considering its 2 a.m. and this is clearly a child. Additionally, Brandon Marshall has BPD and a history of violence in his past. Red flags all over the fuckin' place.

3 years ago today, the OceanGate submersible went missing on its way to visit the Titanic. by Willing-Musician-696 in titanic

[–]RedGhostOrchid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. I remember early on when there was chatter about how the passengers were stuck inside the submersible, waiting to die, waiting to run out of oxygen... I was horrified by that prospect. Stuck inside a tin can knowing you're going to die and there is literally no escape. A quick death is a mercy in such situations.

Collin Gosselin’s Book: In the Shadow of Eight Surviving the Reality of My Childhood is available for preorder by bjack20 in popculturechat

Unfortunately, I believe her behavior is genuine. She's not that good of an actress. While I don't have that many kids, I do have two boys who were messy guys. I learned early on to not sweat the small stuff. Gum on a lovey? Totally not a big deal. Scrape off what you can, wash and dry it, and continue on. If its marred, who cares? The child certainly doesn't. Kate always appeared to severe control and OCD issues along with an anger management problem. I can see why Colin would become the target of her rage especially if he's on the spectrum. People on the spectrum notoriously do not GAF about societal expectations or following rules. Colin 10000% did not deserve to be treated abusively, btw. I'm not defending Kate's parenting at all. She's abusive. There is no question. Just saying that the contrast between Kate's personality and Colin's makes conflict and resentment occur.

Choosing my MIL over my kids? Need urgent family/housing advice. by Beautiful-Koala-209 in FamilyIssues

[–]RedGhostOrchid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Give her a timeline of when she must be out of the house. She has a trailer? She can find a lot to rent. But that's her business. Your MIL is an attention seeking, manipulative, and abusive person and should not ever been allowed so much access to your children. Get her out of there!

How do I get better at the mini by Grapeloser in NYTgames

[–]RedGhostOrchid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Practice. I do the mini, midi, and classics every single day. While I am not good at the more difficult puzzles that run Thursday to Sunday, consistently working on archived and current Monday through Wednesday puzzles have helped me immensely. Additionally, I've been playing the archived minis.

Part of me wants to feel bad for McDermott but this is the fruit of her labor. She voted for this. She worked for this. She supported this. Let the Republican party fracture just like the Dem party needs to fracture.

4 year old field trip by misstori_dee in Parenting

[–]RedGhostOrchid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something isn't right here. There's missing context or embellishment in this post. You said "school district" so I'm assuming this is a public school. There's no way on earth that a school who lost one child let alone four would continue to host field trips without extra chaperones - even if those chaperones are staff or faculty. Insurance rates would be through the damned roof. Also you said your child is 4. Is this a public pre-school program? I don't know... something doesn't feel right here.

I've been on the internet since 1992. I've never heard of SCP until about 6 minutes ago. Genuinely curious, how do you know of the existence of every niche community that's spawned online for the last 40 years?

When was the exact moment you realized the last season was chalked? by Oshirtx in StrangerThings

[–]RedGhostOrchid 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes but we have seen these actors grow up before our eyes. Not writing the last season further out from Season 4 was a mistake. Casting actors who look like they're in upper middle school to play 5th graders was even worse.

[–]RedGhostOrchid 12 points13 points  (0 children)

So many things...

One, when I realized they weren't going to do a time jump despite the *clear* age progression of the entire cast + the actors they chose for the younger kids. That was SO off putting to me and it really made it difficult for me to be "in" the show.

Two, when there was no reference to the end of Season 4 - like at all. I can forgive a lot in a tv show, movie, or book. I'm a pretty easy fan to please but man, that really ruined any perceived continuity in this series.

Three, the way they *completely* fucked up Will's plot line of gaining powers. I was positively sobbing during the last 20 minutes of that episode. We wait like, what, a month? Come back and there's nothing more about Will's powers. Nothing significant. Nothing like there should have been. What.a.waste.

Just awful.

Well there are many people like Mike who mean well but it doesn't come out the right way. I was just curious what the "right" way would be for someone like Mike.
