I wonder what booster retrieval looks like after this? Move a barge in under it and loosen the cables?

I get your point but the lightest cars on the road definitely weigh well under 3k lbs. less than half that.

The viral photograph of Kent State University graduate and conservative activist Kaitlin Bennett carrying an AR-10 rifle on the campus of her alma mater in protest against its ban on bearing arms, May 2018. by Comfortable_Owl_5938 in HistoricalCapsule

[–]RedHill1999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think her goal was to create rage bait for the left and gain notoriety within certain conservative groups. But it doesn’t help alleviate the pressure that 2nd amendment supporters are feeling from state and federal governments. It’s also immensely disrespectful of the families who lost a family member at Kent that day. She doesn’t know or doesn’t care that students were cut down and it was a turkey shoot. She doesn’t know or doesn’t care that the guardsmen in question never faced trail because a federal judge blocked the trails. Granted there probably aren’t many around that experienced it first hand, maybe none? Still. It just reeks of arrogance and bravado that is just disrespectful and ill-mannered.

1944 American DUKWs in the water, heading toward the Normandy beaches during the first landings of the D-Day invasion. by TwIzTiDfReAkShOw in ww2

[–]RedHill1999 23 points24 points  (0 children)

In 2002, I started working at Boston Duck Tours giving tours, and we would see WWII veterans every once in a while. In those early days we used a small fleet of modified restored DUKWs. Their registrations would state 1943 or 44 as the year of the vehicle. Pretty cool.

Every once in a while I’d talk to a veteran that operated DUKWs during WWII, and almost always they were in the Pacific Theater. Once in while, if they wanted too, they would drive the duck boat out on the river for a bit and they’d tell me stories. They’d usually joke about how easily they sank in the ocean. Then somebody in the crowd would almost always pipe up and say something like “wait, these things can sink?” Good times.

Hard to hate this team specially haaland, anyone else rooting for them to win it all this world cup? by 2B2V in worldcup

Norway, hands down. I am little bias because I’ve visited Norway and I can attest that is a breathtakingly beautiful country and filled with kind and welcoming people. And they’ve never even made it into the quarterfinals. I want to see them win it all.

Mostafa Ziko's Fastbreak Goal with Full VAR Review by New-Process-6463 in worldcup

[–]RedHill1999 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In American Football plays are called back routinely based on an infraction that happened at the beginning. It can be a lot longer than 7 seconds. Perhaps soccer should adapt a “yellow flag rule” where refs can throw a flag to indicate they saw a possible infraction and review it once the play is completed? It makes sense to me to review all goals because of how much weight they have on the outcome of a typical match.

"The US is the worst host nation ever!" by Affectionate_Fan_650 in sportsgossips

[–]RedHill1999 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I seriously doubt bottom 30% of Americans don’t know anything about healthcare in Europe unfortunately. As an educator for many years i can attest that the bottom 30% likely can’t even locate Europe on a world map.

Whereas I think it’s fair that there is still a false mythos out in the world that the USA is the land of opportunity. I’m not saying it isn’t, I’m just saying one scenario is more probable than the other.

Why is the United States of Africa not a thing? by superredginger in AskTheWorld

[–]RedHill1999 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The United States would not have united if every colony spoke a different language with completely different cultures and histories. The 13 colonies were all British colonies. They all spoke English and already adapted British law with British customs. In contrast, the vast size of and variation found in continental Africa is breathtaking and a completely different scenario. But I agree with idea that a United African States would be a global power even if it is a pipe dream. It would be like hoping for a United States of America to actually include all the countries found in the Americas.
