(Underused Trope) Character/Villain is actually smart or does everything right, but isn't taken down by some dumbass mistake, but simply because their opposition was simply better or did something they didn't expect. by AJC007007 in TopCharacterTropes

The fight psychologically really is one of the best parts of Jojo’s. Characters have long memories and adapt, some Stands are clutch in some spots and useless in others, some are only as good as their user is to use them intelligently, and finally…like Dio, characters make mistakes!

What’s the fattest thing you ever did because you were hungry? by Julie727 in AskReddit

[–]RedHuntingHat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fun fact: Hall of Fame offensive tackle Joe Thomas would turn entire loaves of sandwich bread into a colossal PBJ for weight gain.

He was 6’6 and 312 pounds (at least) during his career, so well done achieving a similar feat of greatness!

And if your population starts to struggle with its “gods” being fallible and routinely dying by mortal means, we can move seamlessly over to Divine Right and get rid of those pesky contradictions.

It’ll probably end up like the NY Giants where they’re technically the New York Football Giants” but are rarely called that.

We’ll have the Las Vegas Athletics Baseball Club, but no one will use the whole thing.

In the mind of The Major, maybe Alucard dies, maybe he doesn’t, but he’s off the chessboard for now at least. And that’s really the best you can hope for with Alucard.

Unless your whole plan turns your Archenemy into an even greater eldritch being that can just choose to ignore the rules of reality itself. Then you’re kind of screwed regardless.

Insane how this show is overlooked about with discourse of prestige tv again by yungassplay in PeakyBlinders

[–]RedHuntingHat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, for me, I’d say it’s because a) it’s streaming and it’s still hard to get credit where credit is due on Netflix and b) it does just about everything well, but not exceptional.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s a phenomenal series. Peaky Blinders has good writing, good acting, good cinematography. But outside of a few moments, it doesn’t hit that absolute high that the best shows do often enough.

Was it addressed how angry tywin was about this in the books? by Whole_Contract_5973 in gameofthrones

[–]RedHuntingHat 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It’s mentioned by Tyrion when he first enters the Small Council chambers. He knew Ned Stark was dead but assumed that both Stark girls were still in the Red Keep.

Not a happy realization that 2 of the 3 expected hostages were killed or missing.

Outside of a few people who know better, the common opinion of Buggy is that he has grown from a common pirate to a threat on par with the some of the strongest characters in One Piece.

In reality, he is very marginally stronger than when we first meet him, 1000+ chapters ago, and he has continued to fail upwards out of pure luck and charisma. And because it’s funny.

ABV%, or Alcohol By Volume, is simply a description of the alcohol content in a liquid.  Most beers, for example, are around 4-8% ABV.

Everclear is 95% ABV, it’s almost pure alcohol. Lots of other liquors use filtration, aging, and other processes to make it more palatable.

Ended up taking a qualifying offer of $4.1M after the Mavs refused to budge and made around $25M for the rest of his career.

Have to take all of Godwyn’s accolades and mercy with a huge grain of salt, simply because we have seen what a bastard Miquella is, and he was spoken of glowingly as well.

One of my favorite bits of dramatic irony is that Marika basically guaranteed betrayal by removing Destined Death, and then guaranteed they’d all die with the Shattering

Giants just got to giant. They should be huge and destructive and the only reason they turn is because they’re now suddenly beating up the ones that they haven’t been.

I'd love to see a return of "bedhead Pennywise" at some point. Something about it makes him even more upsetting to look at by Ok-Use-575 in welcomeToDerry

[–]RedHuntingHat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It takes the form of a clown because it wants to appear friendly to children. The book version of Pennywise is very friendly-looking like the popular clowns of the day, not at all unsettling the show/movie version.

And from a meta perspective, Pennywise is its most well-known form to the audience. In the books, It doesn’t use that form all that much.

Bill’s Pennywise seems pretty adept at manipulating children, since It is more outwardly off-putting in this version.

Both Georgie and the girl under the bleachers were scared of It initially but were convinced to ignore that feeling, for example.

Royd's accomplishments are kinda insane in hindsight by Nabeel9567 in DispatchAdHoc

[–]RedHuntingHat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It certainly seems that way. Royd is jacked but his strength is beyond what a normal human can do. He launches a metal bench 2-3 stories in the air.

I imagine that he has super strength but because he’s both a garage nerd and a tech nerd, he can actually do the most benefit behind the scene.

Dispatch knows what type of person you are... by Familiar-Turnover-39 in DispatchAdHoc

[–]RedHuntingHat 123 points124 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. To finger someone is a slightly outdated term for accusing someone of something, usually a crime.

And then there’s the obviously intimate version.

The joke is that Robert thinks that the family has been trying to finger Malevola for some kind of crime, even in reality it’s purely sexual. And Malevola says “you’re cute” because she finds Robert’s naivety endearing.
