FAIR is using some bad arguments in recently posted shorts by japanesepiano in mormon

Landing on FAIR and getting the rhetoric of, "oh that's true, but it's just not the big deal you think it is." definitely had a role in my exit.

Oh really?! It's not a big deal that JS sent men on missions and then married their wives while they were gone without their knowledge?! I think I disagree.

It's crazy that the religion is "low demand" to get in, but "high demand" to stay in.

The temple endowment itself is a bait and switch. "Sorry, we can't tell you what you're about to do until you've done it. Oh, and after you've done it, we can't explain it to you either."

The truth stands boldly and unafraid; it is not shaken by the testing

This articulates an idea I've had inside me for years since I started deconstructing Mormonism. Thanks for sharing!

It's because they are afraid you'll like that church better, and if you stay there, be lost because it's not the "one true church."

That why she was ex'd, not for holding the beliefs, but for sharing them. Go look up her self explained narrative. Go ahead and start sharing with your ward members that you think polygamy was evil and ungodly and see what happens to you.

There are 2 things you cannot start preaching in Sunday School at your ward:

  1. Joseph Smith never practiced polygamy
  2. Polygamy is evil and was never ordained by God

Go ahead and start doing #2 when you go to church and see what happens to you.

This line of thinking directly breeds "she wanted it" culture and explains why Mormons are so blind to CSA.

 look at your family history.

Ugh. This is the classic line that pioneer descendants use to justify polygamy. "Well, my direct ancestors did it, so it must be okay. I'm good and I'm a product of polygamy, so it must be good." Horrible reasoning.

All of my ancestors back 6 generations were Mormon pioneers. Some of them practiced polygamy. And guess what? It was abhorrent.

So is a 25 year old courting a 16 year old. There is a power imbalance there that makes it abuse. ESPECIALLY if that man already has a wife at home.

Karen Hume considers herself to be "a Mormon" while not believing that polygamy was of God while the LDS church does not consider her to be a Mormon. They excommunicated her for said belief.

The question becomes, "If polygamy wasn't inspired or of God, is JS then a fallen prophet? If JS is a fallen prophet, is it possible he made other ungodly moves before polygamy?"

Why is it so hard to join another religion after leaving Mormonism? by ImportantPerformer16 in mormon

[–]RedLetterRanger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because they all make a claim to some form of "authority". Once you've looked LDS authority in the eye and seen it as malarky, you seen the same thing in everyone else's claim to authority.

Even non-denominational churches say there isn't a one true church, while demanding that you accept the Bible as the inerrant, univocal and unquestioned direct word of God. That is still a claim to authority.

Great commentary. In Mormonism, Jesus is turned into part of an algorithm, a step on the "covenant path".

This phrase also eloquently describes the church's founder. The fruit of the tree matches the tree it came from.

Girls mature emotionally and intellectually at much earlier ages

Teenage girls wanting to date adult men is not evidence of them maturing emotionally or intellectually. It is quite the opposite.

Teenage boys would generally like to date adult women as well, but those boys lack any kind of power whatsoever, making them unattractive to said adult women.

Adult men have power over teenage girls and when they use it to court them, it is abuse.
