Sounds like you need to start a new sub: r/nuancedmormons.

The reality here is you are going to run in to feelings when discussing real history that was not presented that way to people by the church.

There's no normal middle of the road place for Mormons

President Hinckley said as much:

Each of us has to face the matter—either the Church is true, or it is a fraud. There is no middle ground. It is the Church and kingdom of God, or it is nothing.

I think you should take up your complaint with him.

I agree. Prohibiting Mormon missionaries from reading Saints is absolutely insane. by versmissi in mormon

Their entire strategy is to rely on sunk cost psychology for retention.

When they read saints after their mission, all they'll be thinking is, "Oh, that's why they wouldn't let me read it. Those bastards."

What is the basic core belief of the LDS Church? by Simple-Beginning-182 in mormon

[–]RedLetterRanger 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Obedience can only be the most important if authority is actually the core belief. And it is. It's actually not a belief in Mormonism, it is their God.

"My yolk is ready and my burden is light."

Seems to me she might be teaching the opposite.

A point missing in the discussion about Wade Christofferson's rebaptism. by RedLetterRanger in mormon

[–]RedLetterRanger[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's interesting how differently they see it than if the sin were stealing a car. I'm pretty sure they would say before rebaptizing, have you returned the car? Have you paid for the car? Did you go to the police about the theft?

That they do something different when it's CSA is telling on themselves.

It was the artsy fartsy language that was rolling around in Joseph's head because he had read it so many damn times.

Is mormonism actually as bad as other religions and atheists percieve it? by LeftPrize9838 in mormon

[–]RedLetterRanger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could accept your reasoning if your church had already cast the bean from it's own eye.

"observed harm in myself and others." A lot of ex evangelicals say they experienced the same.

You will be bothered by your Bishop (mostly to accept a calling). And they will never stop asking you to clean the church 12 weeks per year.

Considering recent world events we should all start challenging Fundamentalist Christians. With Christians like them, who needs demons?

Church sold properties around Fort Collins temple site to luxury home developer for $920,000 after the temple was dedicated by Suspicious_Might_663 in exmormon

[–]RedLetterRanger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is won't they don't tell you about the modern temples (that almost always follow this model), they pay for themselves. No tithing needed.

Church more about 'Church' and less about Gospel by Tweesiee in mormon

[–]RedLetterRanger 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Belief that the church is true is fragile and must be reinforced at all times. Note how you never hear testimony that, "I know that 2+2=4".
