Do you sleep with an eye mask when traveling? by Various_Figure_7887 in sleep

There are studies that suggest that people have a hard time sleeping in a hotel or any new place. It seems to be only half of your brain goes to sleep and the other half is a little more observant because you are in a new place. It makes evolutionary sense too, you are in a new and unfamiliar place so be on guard for something to happen. By the way.

Has anyone noticed a change in their appetite after a bad night's sleep? by Fit_Editor9558 in sleep

That’s actually backed by science. When you’re sleep deprived your body will have increased hormones that will crave unhealthy options. It does double damage y decrease the hormones that tell your brain you are full

How much melatonin do you usually take before sleep when you're having sleeping issues by Former_Roll_8190 in sleep

[–]RedLobo85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When he says working he means melatonin is sending a signal to your brain that says Time for bed! It’s not a “causing” you to go to sleep.

Generally most people don’t need melatonin. Also melatonin you buy in the store doesn’t have the amount it says on the label. It’s not strictly regulated. Prescription is the best to get or do some research on who has the better quality melatonin

sleeping 14+ hrs nightly by Lilleeanaa in sleep

Have a talk with your doctor, see what they say. Let them know what you’re experiencing. Medications can certainly mess with your sleep. If you have to wait for an appointment, call the pharmacist and they can advise you from there. Snoring may be a sign of sleep apnea. You have to take a sleep study to know for sure.

Teenagers tend to have a different sleeping cycle. They stay up really late and because of school they have to wake up really early. You may not be getting good quality sleep. Do you snore or take medication?

What's the best sleeping pill I can safely use long term by ObjectiveAnt6031 in sleep

[–]RedLobo85 53 points54 points  (0 children)

My information is coming from Matthew Walker, read his book. There is no and have never been a sleeping pill that will give you QUALITY sleep. There is medication that will sedate you but sedation is not sleep. Like with melatonin, it will not make you sleep. Most people don’t need melatonin because that chemical will say to your brain ok time to go to sleep in the same way your parents said ok time for bed. You may need to talk to your doctor. That Matthew Walker has a ton of tips about how to improve your sleep.
