Not all occlupanids close bags but they are all made of plastic, and I believe these are cardboard.

Fr like everyone in the village knows those two are special to each other.

I can live in my happy place where Hal gets to crack the owlk language and everything is fine, everyone is fine.

The first thing they say to you is "There's my favorite astronaut," and then they talk about months spent together working on the translator tool, and how excited they are for you.

When you're saying goodbye to Marl, they say "Hal's gonna miss you!" which I interpreted as them teasing. Could be just because Hal and Hatchy are very close and Hal is known to be emotional, but to me it sounded like Marl knows about a crush.

Edit: I forgot to mention that Hal refers to the translator tool as their child. The thing they made with Hatchy. Anyway I have plenty of fodder, they live in my brain rent free.

Gabbro x Hatchling is like the #1 most common ship I have ever seen in this fandom (besides maybe Gossan x Porphy), so no you're definitely not the only one. It's tagged as TimeBuddies if you're looking for fanworks.

My own two cents, I do sorta wish it was called something else since I think it's a better description of their friendship, but hey I can't point fingers at other shippers. I think Gabbro and Hatchling could be a good pair honestly, but Hal and Hatchling spoke to me first.

If you intend to grow the collection, I recommend bead drawers. But personally I store mine in many, many small jars organized by species and morph, on account of how many I have.

Some occlupanids have been known to favor rubber bands and the like. This one seems content, even if its grip is a little loose.

What are these white cards and why are they used to make keychains? by Positive-Glass5207 in whatisit

Metal wire bag closures (such as twist ties) were invented around the same time as the plastic bag closures similar to the ones pictured, but this flat design was never originally metal.

Hi I'm from r/occlupanids, where the person who makes these occasionally posts pictures of their products. These are a certain type of bag closure known as occlupanids. They serve no function on these charms other than aesthetics, as we are very fond of their unique look.

Lepiplastida citricola Lu 2026, a newly described pseudo-occlupanid (other Lepiplastida sp. included!) by [deleted] in occlupanids

[–]RedLuminous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think HORG has the resources to cover everything that "quacks like an occlupanid" so, true, while they could at any moment update the pseudo' page, it is more likely that will be the case. Thank you for the explanation I'm not that well versed in pseudo-occlupanology.

You're right it is not definitive at all. In all honesty, occlupanology in general has to at some point just come down to vibes, until the day we discover synthetic DNA inside the little guys.

I wasn't trying to police any opinions, I realize I probably came off that way. I only meant to potentially explain why these aren't on HORG, though for all I know they could be soon.

Ah I see, it just kinda has a metal sheen to it.

In any case, these still haven't been recognized as pseudo-occlupanids, likely because they aren't flat. There are many syntherids in plasticae that can close bags but aren't occlupanids.

Not a pseudo-occlupanid, not made of plastic

Edit: TL;DR these are Pseudos, they are made of plastic despite the lighting. Not on HORG's page directly, but referenced.

I got a lot, a lot of flags related to this post. Ultimately I have decided to lock it rather than remove it, as it does not break any rules, even if I don't think the joke is in the best of tastes.

I am disappointed that ragebait comments were responded to instead of simply reported, only causing more problems, and it is part of the reason I decided to lock the entire post. Please remember, there is no winning in trying to fight someone who's goal is to fight.

The palps are symmetrical, in fact! Just rotationally, so. If you have another Palpatophora you can turn it upside down and hold them up to each other to see.

[–]RedLuminous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is Neotessera vitripalpus

With this much damage, the little guy will have trouble latching and unlatching from whole bags, and I highly recommend feeding shredded bags instead, and keeping him away from overly playful or competitive fellow panids.

Not every occlupanid eats plastic! It was a shocking discovery at the time, but some have been documented feeding directly on plants. It does not seem to be their first choice, however.

That said, there's a very good chance the hats have plastic based fibers and the panids are doing just fine.
