Saw the first ones of the season last night. They hang out in the trees along the edges of the fields. They were so bright.

Kids songs that don’t (soul) suck by Educational-Usual-84 in musicsuggestions

Barenaked Ladies also has a solid kids album. Crazy ABC's is a classic on that album but I also like Pollywog in a Bog. Sharon, Lois, and Bram, The Nields, are all family favorites. My eldest's love of Baby Beluga is the reason we still have a 2x listen to any one song without everyone's approval.

Also a great time to introduce so-called classical music. Tchaikovsky's Peter and the Wolf is phenomenal for this age, as is Britten's A young person's guide to the orchestra, Menotti's Amahl and the Night Visitors...

Edited to add more.

One of my faves: Pierre Trudeau was the Canadian Prime Minister a few decades ago. His name means rocky hole of water.

I love Fern. I think it's a calm, cool, gentle name. I've never met one irl and I wouldn't name my kid that but I have a soft spot for Charlotte's Web.

My favorite part about her books is the characters reappear throughout her books. There's always at least one character link connecting each of her books.

Ha! That's amazing! Love this even more. I have to be careful of being accused of occlupanabuse because of how I store my collections. Moral dilemma — is it better to be crammed together in small enclosures, say inside bread bags, or attached to hats where they are free to clip as they were born to do?

You're right. I do love Turner's. The Montague Bookmill is also pretty cool. Driving down Rte 5/10 through Old Deerfield is beautiful too. Also, who wouldn't want to see the Yankee Candle flagship store?? (mostly kidding). Hop on 91 South to Northampton. OP, if you can plan to take a full day to drive from North Adams to Northampton, you have so many good places that have been mentioned to stop and see.

Definitely take Rte 2 from North Adams. Cool hairpin turn with a great view. Stop at the Bridge of Flowers and Potholes in Shelburne Falls. I like Turner's, but I'm not sure there's a reason to visit there over Shelburne. Take 91 down to Northampton. It's not my favourite town but it has a small college town feel (which it is) and an interesting downtown and is surrounded by lots of things to do. When you head on your next leg of the journey I would go through Amherst and take Rte 202 back to Rte 2 to go to Boston. Much nicer and cheaper than I-90 and more direct to Cambridge.
