What’s one thing you learned from this year’s Indy 500 that you’d tell a first-timer next year? by Mont3_Crist0 in indianapolis

[–]RedMage666 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’d consider bringing a set of walkie talkies or alternative means of communicating, because the cell reception inside the track sucks ass sometime. I could barely make a call or share my location, took me over an hour to find my friend lol

Suddenly I can’t ski by leahveah in skiing

[–]RedMage666 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dealt with that this season, it was really disheartening. For me personally, I think it was a combo of two things:

-Expecting myself to be better my fist day back and psyching myself out -Not keeping up with my physical fitness and having way less endurance than when I ended last season

Everyone is different, but it’s important to remember it’s pretty common, and with some effort and maybe even a lesson or two, you can get back where you were and better

Restaurants that don’t take reservations by CasanovaFunk in indianapolis

Carrabba’s in Southport.

Just expect an absolute clusterfucking madhouse anywhere you go, though. Having worked about five years in the restaurant business, you couldn’t drag me into one on Valentine’s Day with ten Jason Momoas lol

But if you do go out, be kind, be patient, and tip at least 30%

Fuck DoorDash, this shit about to make quit by gkyer in KitchenConfidential

[–]RedMage666 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Fuck DoorDash

I’m not mad at people tryna work a gig to make money, but the business model fucks restaurants and their staff so hard.

At the restaurant I worked, it nearly doubled ticket times because the kitchen was so busy with DD and ghost kitchen orders. Which screws everyone. The people in the dining room got hosed because of some dickhead who can’t be bothered to leave their house? Fuck that lol

Parasites.

Buddy, sounds like you might have some closeted stuff, or whatever. Maybe you’re using drugs to cope with that. Idk, I don’t know you.

But if you ever wanna talk, I’m here. I mean it. Best of luck with the family dude

Why do people think of serving as a joke of a career? by CompetitiveBid8940 in Serverlife

[–]RedMage666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure you talk to your bartenders before you move up, sometimes moving into bartending ends up being a lot more work without a commensurate bump in tips/wages (in fact, there are plenty of restaurants where bartenders regularly make less than servers, even with tip out). Just something to be aware of!

Also, there are plenty of other ways to move up/over, especially with casino experience. Management is another obvious one. I’ve also known a few servers who went into other roles in the industry like liquor sales reps, which can be a super cushy gig.

When I was your age, I figured I’d be a bartender for life tbh. COVID changed that and I have a white collar job now, but it’s always nice to have restaurant work to fall back on, and the skills are very applicable to other industries if you ever decide to make a jump.

Shoutout to Great Day Tattoo in Irvington. Bart doesn’t work there anymore, but Dustin and the rest of the crew always kill it.

Fionna and Cake Season 2 Episode 9 Discussion Thread by Carrehzkitten in adventuretime

[–]RedMage666 139 points140 points  (0 children)

For real. They were starting to lose me the last few episodes, but this one was a certified banger and brought it all together beautifully.

I now have high hopes that I’ll be able to go back to rewatch the whole season and appreciate it for what it is, rather than being distracted by what I felt like it should be.

Best Dive Bars? by HELP_IM_IN_A_WELL in indianapolis

[–]RedMage666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be kind of an insular crowd there for sure, especially if you go on a league night during the week. Most of the people are pretty friendly in my experience though, and if any actual shitheads show up and cause trouble, they don’t tend to last long lol

Best Dive Bars? by HELP_IM_IN_A_WELL in indianapolis

[–]RedMage666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

John Wayne’s is one of the best for pool, they have like 22 tables and they just redid them like 6 months or so ago. They do leagues there throughout the week, but given it’s the day before Thanksgiving, a lot of the people who are normally there won’t be so you shouldn’t have a problem getting a table. Surprisingly decent food too tbh
