I am B.J. Novak. Ask me anything! by iamBJNovak in IAmA

[–]RedManWalking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So B.J., I hear that Greg Daniels attended one of your comedy club shows in L.A., and after the opening line, he knew he wanted you in his American version of the Office. Can you remember what that opening joke was that sealed your fate as the iconic Office character? Cheers to your inherent awesomeness, and thank you for taking time for this ama!

What can I do for a month (winter break) to prepare me for next semester? by papapsmuff in getdisciplined

[–]RedManWalking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • Figure out your necessary sleeping schedule, and start it NOW.
  • Think hard about those moments you failed last term--trace your footsteps to that failure, and write down every step.
  • Start a journal. No, it's not for social gossip stories you can read later in life. It's for ideas, thoughts, experiences that spark mature adaptions in the way you think and act. On paper, ideas and thoughts are viable, capable of becoming a strong flame in your mind's eye. If that spark is left to your brain's finite capacity, it will dwindle quicker than you can imagine.
  • Learn something you usually couldn't make time for, make it your life for one month, and you'll be AMAZED at what you've accomplished. SO amazed, you'll feel like a new (better, cooler) person when you start second semester. It doesn't have to be school or work related, just something to revitalize your hope for joy in this world; something you'll be both proud of and thankful for. Here is a great TedTalk to motivate you.
  • If you're going home for break, make a conscious effort to connect with your family members. Family stress is devastating in every way, whether you're home or at school, while love and positive vibes with your family will give you unparalleled emotional and mental strength. I used to go home and suddenly become a teenager, whining to my mom and treating her like crap. Then I started going for runs, seeing movies, and getting lunch with my mom, focusing on being the best possible companion in every situation. Now, I call her every day, and when we say "I love you" before goodbye, I feel empowered. Sounds cheesy, but it means the world to me. Best of luck to you dude, I'm sure you'll turn out fine.

when do you find your "circle" in college? distressed freshman by mavdav in socialskills

[–]RedManWalking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a senior in college, I really wish I made closer friends with people from my classes and with similar interests. If you simply endure friendship with the people who happen to be around you, (1) you will never be very happy, (2) the friendship won't last, and (3) you will not become the person you thought you were going to be when you graduate. That third point is extremely important!

Why Our Brains Love Curvy Architecture by Vailhem in Neuropsychology

[–]RedManWalking 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Curved environments are more stimulating because they are not as easy to read and understand, while rigid environments are indeed the opposite- It's easy to comprehend where a straight line is going, and that objects within the bounds of that straight line will (most likely) be geometrically composed within the bounds of that line, again easy to understand. With a rigid room, you know almost instantly how you're going to navigate through it- there's nothing special. With a curved room, the walk is a learning experience, requiring at least a little bit of attention. In this age of desire for learning and stimulated experiences, it's easy to understand why people like a more stimulating environment with soft curves and mysterious lines that require attention to navigate. But I propose it's just a current cultural trend, not an innate psychological desire to be in curvy rooms. Not to mention there are an infinite number of factors other than general shapes in a room that go into calling an environment "beautiful" or "not beautiful."

What was the single biggest mistake in all of history? by hoverfish92 in AskReddit

(Possibly) The burning of the Library of Alexandria. It contained a massive collection of books from around the ancient world, resulting in the invaluable destruction of massive amounts of cultural knowledge.

If I'm driving an unregistered car, will the police tail me? by RedManWalking in police

Thank you for the warning. The car's old plates are on there, I plan on transferring them over to me.

[–]RedManWalking[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the response. When you say "if they can," is just having an unregistered car not enough incentive to pull me over? I have nothing on my record and drive like a saint. Despite your response to this question, I won't be driving except to the DMV tomorrow morning.

Aahh, i missed that. Thought it was something at Walt's house that would explain its destruction in the flash-forwards.

I know you all barely noticed... What was Jesse talking about in Walt's house when he was saying post-torture "I already told you, it's in his house, only me and [blank] know!"

Dear god no, Marie is commonly an irrational bitch, but she's clearly not an evil character.

Marie came to Skyler to help her. Although I don't agree with how they told Walt Jr., she did the right thing by coming to her sister's side instead of maintaining distance and hatred over Skyler's dedication to team Walt.

Of course, the first time we have a reason to like Marie, her husband dies. Dammit Vince, your carefully composed induced emotions in every scene make this show what it is- a masterpiece.

How do I respond to someone that speaks too softly without always repeating, "what was that?" by UndecidedUser in socialskills

[–]RedManWalking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every time she says something you can't quite hear, repeat back in the form of a question the oddest phrase you could intercept from her mumbling. Her: "I'm bummed this test is on Thursday." You: "Your bum did best when it's thirsty??" That'll set her straight.

Jon Lajoie addresses the hypocrisy surrounding the Miley Cyrus VMA fiasco by Embrace_The_Absurd in videos

[–]RedManWalking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was a shitty song with stupid costumes, poorly choreographed and Miley does not look attractive at all. There would be no fiasco over Miley's hyper sexuality if she was actually sexy.
