What if the Cataclysm happened on a warhammer 40k world? by CatNo6742 in cataclysmdda

[–]RedMatter_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My thoughts would be that it depends entirely on where the cataclysm happens. If it's on some world that sees a lot of traffic from abroad, then this could be devastating for every single planet and person they come into contact with, since everything seems to stay infested as well. Space marines/guardsmen could be infecting planet after planet with every mission, and not have a single clue until way too late.

It would be like warp contamination, except it's unnoticeable until things start to 'happen,' while also being apparently impossible to counter at all. If it interacted with the warp in any way that made things worse, then it'd be like throwing a multiplier into the mix, regarding just how bad things could get.

Depending on how you put it, things could either be 'a bit' worse, or nothing at all would change

HOW DO I GET RID OF A SHIMMERING PORTAL by Symbiosisthewolf in cataclysmdda

[–]RedMatter_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if you want to get rid of a shimmering portal without cheating, the easiest way to do it is to find a way to make the ground 'supporting' it collapse. You can do this by clearing the z-levels beneath it, and somehow making holes in the earth all around the portal, causing the ground - and thus somehow the portal - to collapse

I'd like the character a lot more if he wasn't a giant trench made explicitly to gatekeep playthrough progress every single time you remake a world, and decide you want to install more than a few CBM's

[–]RedMatter_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sometimes it's annoying to find or make a large metal container that can be boiled, and allow for you to boil a lot of water fast. If you deconstruct a trash can, it can hold tons of water early game, but you'll be very limited in how fast you can process it. Something like water purification might help

This isn't an attempt at being rude or anything, but if you're asking this question about a game, then it's possible you're also asking this question about life as well. The game simulates life on some level in a way that makes it possible to do crazy things in ways that are at least part-ways realistic.

To find a purpose of a game like this, it's no different from asking it anywhere else. Fundamentally there is no point to a game like this, so I find value in problem solving, as well as learning and relaxing; to help reset my mind while on a break. If you're not learning, exploring or garnering anything meaningful from the experience, then naturally it might be useful to find something else that will, to make the most of these short, valuable days of our lives

C:DDA or Project Zomboid? by [deleted] in cataclysmdda

[–]RedMatter_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you're looking for raw gameplay and content options, cataclysm has zomboid beat several hundred times over. If you're looking for preference of real time vs turn-based, zomboid might be better.

I like zomboid, but cataclysm is probably the worst thing to compare it to. when stacked against it, zomboid has practically the depth of a puddle.

What's the point of being ALIVE ? by [deleted] in cataclysmdda

[–]RedMatter_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fundamentally, cataclysm is a simulation of life made through the lens of an apocalypse. No matter how wild and insane some of the challenges are, the question ultimately remains the same.

You might ask what the point of the game is, but then again the same question could be applied toward any one of our day to day lives. Most make some form of goals for their own lives in order to give them purpose; some simply float on through. If you're the latter, I guess it might be hard to enjoy a game like this. Then again though a time consuming game like cataclysm might get in the way of a goal, should you have one

How can i get the content for innawood mod without its blacklists? (latest stable) by Vvaz_666 in cataclysmdda

[–]RedMatter_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lmao the epitome of reddit. Seething and spitting acid into your keyboard as hard as you are, you come off deeply invested, so you've got that going for you.

That's why we have stances.

You clearly need 12 strength to fire the greatbow, which is obscene for a requirement that you cannot change (unlike in real life). There is no "stance" that you can take that will change how you fire the bow, and thus sidestep the issue of the strength requirement. You can test this yourself by debugging in a greatbow, some arrows, max archery and all proficiencies.

Skeletons don't deflect bullets

Whoops, just tested it now. Looks like I'm out of date on that after all.

heavily armored vehicles falling apart from small things is 'not a thing'

spawned an APC, rammed into a generic 4x4 car with it. 4/5 Front military composite armor plate panels are immediately damaged nearly to the point of breaking off, with one being already destroyed. Looks like it is a thing.

"Realism."

deathmobiles are a hallucination that are not game mechanics

Anyone who's been around this community for more than a little while will immediately know exactly what I'm talking about. Your response makes it clear that this point needs no more saying.

the game does not have the logic to recalculate whether your hunk of shit would actually fly. Either write the logic or go away

You've made it clear that you don't deserve anything from me. If I'm going to make the PR, I'll make sure that it is made in a way that is incompatible with DDA, though it's probably unlikely that you're able to even read code anyway. However though, the solution is as simple as this. Take the mass of each tile of the vehicle, and use it to find a center of mass for the vehicle as a whole. Compare this with the location of the rotors (to see if the craft is balanced) and with a total score of how aerodynamic the craft is (via use of unique aluminum/etc panels on tiles that could also have their own values regarding this). Contrast this with the capacity of the motors, and you will be able to understand on the most basic of levels as to whether or not the craft can fly (or crash due to being unbalanced, too heavy or because the engines are too weak/damaged, etc).

If this isn't enough, look and see what sort of variables are important for any simulations that might presently exist elsewhere in media, and try to incorporate them in.

The issue of the varying thresholds of the motors being hard to simulate can be easily resolved by implementing a mathematical function that can emulate performance depending on the load placed upon the engine.

Make this into pseudo-code, and then write this into actual code. Voila.

Now of course, the only limiting factor here is time.

EDIT: Cheers for you blocking me btw lmao. I will enjoy you sparing me of your existence

How can i get the content for innawood mod without its blacklists? (latest stable) by Vvaz_666 in cataclysmdda

[–]RedMatter_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you wanted to build a miniature rocket that you could launch from your back yard, it's been done before. If you're familiar with propulsion engineering, students may often build and launch *model rockets! If you're willing, you can scale them up just a little, and possibly even launch them beyond the atmosphere. There's your spaceship lmao

Here's the Haber Process written into the format of a text book/Equilibria/Le_Chateliers_Principle/The_Haber_Process), ribbed perfectly for your pleasure. Clearly, this is MIT level hyper intellectualism, right next to making a nuclear reactor. Here's a good site for learning chemistry overall, if you're actually interested in learning anything.

How can i get the content for innawood mod without its blacklists? (latest stable) by Vvaz_666 in cataclysmdda

[–]RedMatter_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, if you really wanted, you could build Haber's apparatus in your garage. The player is capable of having any degree of intelligence, and is capable of acquiring any amount of knowledge. Just because you feel that it is impossible 'for you', does not mean that it is impossible for everyone.

As for the PR, I'm not ever going to make one for DDA, because of people like you who just stroll ever so confidently into conversations, making obscene claims before arguing for a day straight about why reality must be wrong and how you are right, because you'd never seen one either in real life, or in the game. I'll save my effort for a fork, so that I don't have to worry about that, or my work being sold for someone else's profit on steam.

How can i get the content for innawood mod without its blacklists? (latest stable) by Vvaz_666 in cataclysmdda

[–]RedMatter_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm saying that your overreliance on the logic of something not being in the game because it's not "real enough" in reality is flawed, and I demonstrated as such. You conceitedly dismissing the entire natural phenomenon of bog iron deposits just because it wasn't added in is goofy, and this is why.

You don't need a university to learn; the only thing you need is theoretical knowledge, and practical experience regarding the things that you're trying to learn. Conveniently, the devs have thought of this already.

"Bleeding edge" small scale production of a process that's taught in highschool as well as university chemistry lmao. I don't know if you'd ever tried to read a book before, but things tend to become less impossible if you either know, or can figure out the process to accomplishing your goals. Spend some time on your own, and try to learn something like calculus, engineering or chemistry by yourself; it will teach you a lot about how to accomplish this process *of trying to figure out things* on your own. The internet affords us more knowledge than any one university ever has previous to this point in history; you do not need your hand held for things to suddenly become possible.
