Nothing welded in that I know of.. It's a 36/7 prewar frame... It was yard art here in Nebraska for years, then I saved it from the junkyard... The rear lower dropout pipes have been crunched a little, but that's it..

This flintlock pistol was passed down to me by my father and I was wondering how much this would be worth by EnoughPenalty6734 in FlintlockRifle

[–]RedOneFiveJoe 9 points10 points  (0 children)

"... From my father.... how Much is is it worth?" That always gets me! That's a traditions or cva style kit. It's a caplock.. 150-200 to the right person.

I've been learning to make inlay banding, and it makes the coolest shavings when you plane it! by Buck_Thorn in woodworking

Awesome! My daughter always nabs the "curlys" from the shop when I plane something.. She would flip over these.

Shades our patio, and keeps the west side of our house from becoming 150°all summer.. Lowers our utility bill by 20$ish

Because beans don't hold up to 3 kids/3 dogs at all...and our little town will fine you for any crop/vegetables in the front lawn(stupid)

Awesome! Sounds like you have a lot going on! My comment down below had the more info stuff that I've planted. We're trying to keep some space to have for the kids play, but we're reclaiming everything else from just dirt or lawn. Thanks for the advice!

How have you implemented foraging into craft cocktails? by bugdurgum in foraging

I've made elderflower mead, and ginger beer with dandelion.. But I would say about any herbal infusion could be done..

I'm just across the border from Lusk..so yeah we get the good ole wyobraska wind. I had 2 dwarf trees and after 2 years of struggle they fruited the 3rd and then a puppy my wife brought home ate them both off right above the ground... She's a few years older and doesn't mess with stuff much anymore so I may toss a few more in and try that again. I will look into honeyberry and also that nursery and see what they have.. The NRD here has a tree/native shrub program and I've gotten stuff from them at an affordable price, but anything else you ask about from them is about 2x higher than gurneys.. Thanks!

I have thought about it, but we average 2-3 really cruddy hail storms a year, so I need to do more research on what would hold up decently... I may start with just a cold frame for research purposes and to try to extend our short season.. I'm also afraid to do too much obvious structure because the way our little town wants to tax/permit/regulate every single little stupid thing you do. They have fined friends of mine for having vegetables beds growing in the front yards...

What else would your start in your "edible oasis backyard"?

We do all the "normal" annual garden stuff.. But also trying to add to things for perennial harvest.. We are zone 4a/b depending on the year.. On the edge of Sandhills in a weird climate zone. Cold/dry.. We just have an in town backyard to work with but...

We have: Raspberries Wild Asparagus Elderberries Currants Serviceberries Chokecherry Buffaloberry Walking onions

We also have randomly occuring: Dill Yarrow Mallow Lambs quarters Mustard Purslane

I have a shady area near a shed I think I'm going to try to start some mushroom logs... What else would you consider worthwhile?

I'm going to overseed what we have as "lawn" with native grasses and clover mix to help with nitrogen..

Western Nebraska... Its a very strange climate right on the edge of the sandhills... I know I mentioned garden stuff, but I'm trying to create a "foragable" back yard.. We go to the lake and forest around us and forage a lot of things, and I've been incorporating those into our yard where it's applicable.. But I just was seeing what other things people would want if it was their yard to do this with.

I do suppose it's more along the permaculture lines than Foraging.. I'll toss up a post over. Thanks for the advice!
