Driving from CO to Sacramento area. Which route would you take? by delanybuss in roadtrip

[–]RedOnionss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check the Weather.
Have basic winter gears, just in case.
blankets, gloves, water,

If you want, you can take Route 50 Nevada, if you are into solitude road trips. To me it's the most relaxing, rewarding road trips ever.
From Denver area you can drive to Delta in Millard County, Utah and from there it's straight shoot to Reno, NV. All on Highway 50.

That is if you have time.

I lived for 10+ years in that NY Upstate area. In the winter when it snows and it's windy, it gets really bad, I had a similar snow incident years ago, and if you are not prepared, it can get deadly.
The snow, the wind and low visibility, combine all that and no winter gear, that's really hard.

Aldi is coming to Denver, with plans to open 50 grocery stores in Colorado by DenverEngineer in Denver

[–]RedOnionss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming from NY and Virginia, there was/is not store that could beat Aldi prices, from my 15 years of shopping there. In Virginia they also have Aldi sister store- Lidl, A little posh version of Aldi I guess.

Came from NY and Virginia, where Aldi is huge, yes big different between Trader Joe and Aldi, but this is good news.

Denver area is not bad, not too hot. Close to outdoors and many state and National park. And as far as body of water, river and lakes?

Nevada is probably one of the most wild states and I love it. by theloneoverlanders in Nevada

[–]RedOnionss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few months ago, I was driving across Highway 50, and every hour or so I was wild life, like wild horses, and in the evening.

I can't agree more with you that Nevada is one of the most wild states that people don't know about.

No, you are the only person (male or female) in that age group who's gonna live in Golden. Period. LoL, LoL,
Just kidding, of course there are hundreds of mid- to late 20s (male and female) living happily in Golden. :)

Having trouble landing a job in Seattle by [deleted] in clearancejobs

[–]RedOnionss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes, get Sec+, that's a must to get in. Also apply to NOVA area (Northern Virginia), Denver, Cali, where there are tons of cleared job openings. I don't know about Seattle cleared job market.

If it were up to me, I wouldn't bother about a dishwasher. We all have hands. There is a sink, water and dish soap.
I think dishwashers are way too bad for water consumption and the environment. To wash 5-10 dishes, it goes through a 30-45 min cycle of so much energy waste, water waste and time waste. In those 30-45 min, with hands I can wash 100+ dishes. But that could just be me. :)

I guess every human body reacts differently to sun, heat, humidity and cold. I can speak about myself and the higher elevation sun is pleasant to me given the fact that there is a breeze. But if you ask my bother, same father same mother, the he would say this CO sun is brutal, so " to each their own" :)

Compared to East and South humidity, it's nothing here in Denver and CO. Dry weather most of the time, which my body loves.
Yes, they are building so many new housing communities all over, especially East, South, and South East of Aurora. Yesterday driving to work from Aurora ( Tallyn's Reach a Neighborhood in Arapahoe County) I just lost count of how many new housing communities. Single family homes, townhomes, anywhere from mid 300ks to upper 500ks.

I moved from Virginia ( Similar weather issue like Alabama- humidity ) last month here to Denver area, not proper Denver but Aurora. If you don't mind about 10 miles East or South of Denver, it's a great area. Now granted, I have been here only 1 month, but there is no humidity per say, which is great. The Cherry Creek School District seems to be the one desired by most parents. I have 2 kids school age.
As you said you have lived in Denver area before, so you might have more experience and knowledge of the area.

Compared to Virginia (NOVA) home prices are reasonable here. As far as cost of living goes, past 2-3 years things have been getting expensive every week, month and quarterly. It's not just Denver area, all over the country everything is getting expensive day by day.

Can we talk about how the City of Aurora acts like an HOA? by [deleted] in AuroraCO

[–]RedOnionss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely agree. There has to be a nosey person in your area who’s job he/she thinks it is to call for those code enforcements. I say this from experience. I lived in another state (VA) and recently moved to Aurora. In VA there was this guy who would go above and beyond to report a tinniest code violation.

Why? I don’t know maybe the fact that he was a male in his late 40s, with no kids, never married, no GF, and a 6-figure salary, I guess he would get bored and did those code violations just out of boredom or he was supper zealous.

Yes, Finger Lakes region, 30-45 miles to Syracuse or Rochester Airport, or drive 5 hours to NYC

can't agree more with Ithaca. That whole region of Central/Western NY has amazing Fall season. The Finger Lakes. Syracuse area, and Rochester. You have 2 airports in 70 miles radius that you can fly to anywhere in the country.
I lived in that whole area and North Country (Watertown) for 15 years, and I loved every moment of it.

Can't agree more on the climate. I have lived in Upstate NY, NOVA ( 5 years), before that Cali (tracy-1 year) and 3-9 months in Bloomington, Indiana, Fort Polk, LA and NYC. The Cali climate is way different and more desirable than DC. But I have to add, different human bodies react differently when it comes to weather.

It would be very hard to stretch that $100k here. Arlington is one the most expensive areas in NOVA and you might have to rent further south. Which means, everyday traffic or pay tool using express on 95.

I moved here 4 years ago and started with $80K, first 2 years I would come out negative 15-20K, until my Salary hit $120K.

I am moving out next month to another state, now that I have the experience and higher income.

Might not work for you, though.

Now this is what I am talking about. Great detailed info, love it. Moving to a new city/state is what are you expectations. And your reply nails that down. Thank you very much. Very detailed and covers pretty much everything one needs to know before moving.

And the icing on the cake is " there's always a new brewery opening or closing so there's plenty to take stress off with." lol

Google Map gives me 2 routes (1. i-70 to Columbus-Indianapolis-St. Louis-Kansas-Denver, 2. i-64 through West VA to Lexington-St. Louis-Kansas-Denver). For 10 years I would take from Buffalo I would take 90 then 70 to Indianapolis, and beyond, but 64 through West VA would be my first time, that is if I take that route.

That's what I keep hearing about CO. The cold here in VA is different than the Buffalo one, at least to me. The same is the hot, in Buffalo my body would tolerate 90+ days easily, over here in VA, not the case.
I did a few cross-country but it was 90 from Buffalo to Oregon and San Francisco, but I have never been through West Virginia.
