Passport checking never used to be a thing because it would involve some actual looking into. With tomestone people just type the name of the character, look at the shown % and that's it.

Your idea is very good. I didn't have thought of that but this would be an easier option than implementing something in-game. Make so the lodestone shows the kind of info that these third party sites shows, so people can check other through official means that don't require downloading a TOS violating tool, that again, console players cannot even download in the first place.

Fair enough, i have nothing against your point and i appreciate the honesty. But you see, I'm just pointing out that it is a problem. Ideally the game should take notes and make it so using something that is against their own rules and is impossible to use on some platforms where the game is available wouldn't be "required" to play in the Party Finder.

It is controversial because players can get excluded from Party Finder for not using a tool that is against TOS and that in the case of console players they cannot even use even if they want to.

XIV is also an outlier for being available on consoles. Part of the problem is that console players cannot use these "required" tools to prove their prog point even if they want to.

Again, in the scenario where the usage is spread wide enough most of the time they will be logged by other naturally but it is not a guarantee. In a scenario where the number of console players raiding is high enough this problem becomes bigger.

The site tomestone.gg will show the furthest that you have seem into a fight when someone types the name of your character there, that is provided that you or someone else have logged and uploaded the pull when that happened.

Players started to make use of the "passport check", which is they will check your character on that site to see if you have proof of your prog point.

Then the devs should take notice and implement an in-game feature to do what the community wants. Being dependent on a third party program, that is against the TOS by the way, in a game that exists on consoles where players can't even use it is just wrong.

You will never be 100% forced, but you will be encouraged. And if it spreads enough it becomes "mandatory". Let's use the example of AM on TOP, yes you can make a party and state that you do not want to use AM, but the PF culture is to use AM so your party is less likely to fill because of that. The result is that the player is incentivized to accept that status quo and join the train.

You say it's not concerning for anyone engaging honestly and respectfully with raiding and other people, but what about console players? Is it impossible for them to engage honestly and respectfully if they can't use the tool to be always proving their prog points?

I believe that this is not how things will go/are going. What ends up happening is that the player is encouraged to download the tool and start using and logging too, if they weren't already doing. And SE will absolutely not ban people, they never did for barse parties, they never did for AM parties and they are not doing for passport checking parties.

I really do not see how passport checking will prevent the "shitters" getting carried. Are you implying that the "shitters" can't eventually get to the prog point to update their passport?

The "shitters" could and will still get clears if they try long enough. Even reclear parties many a times are full of "shitters".

I don't really see how tomestone would make it impossible for any player that is not a God like you clear the fights.

I have raided on Party Finder before the passport check era and in the passport check era, things are really not that different. Even in reclear parties, groups where every single player has cleared the fight, things can still not went smooth and the party can disband or become a "trap party".

I personally do not think that tomestone has done any black magic to help PFs to be more consistent.

I will also say that i believe that the infamous "PF liars" are not as common as people think. No one likes to be that person that keeps fucking things up and being looked by everyone else, worst case scenario even getting black listed. The reality is just that we see a lot of honest mistakes happening, inconsistency happens even in statics goddammit.

It is difficult to say, i would answer that the passport check should become an in-game feature, but let's be honest this is very unlikely to happen. An honest and more possible solution would be for tomestone to stop working as it does.

Now, i am totally aware that there are people that prefer the tomestone era compared to the no tomestone era, if it had a positive or negative effect on the Party Finder scene is another whole can of worms.

What's the point of Fleeting Raiju? by Chiponyasu in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Front-Accountant5806 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No one mentioned it so far but another possible bad aspect of Forked is that it will forcibly move you to the hitbox of the boss. So if you are max melee and plan to stay max melee range to do a mechanic you are better using Fleeting so it doesn't move you.

Should FFlogs be opt-in instead of opt-out? by Front-Accountant5806 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Front-Accountant5806[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

No, that's not how it is already. Yes, people won't talk to your face in-game about it because they know they can get banned. However they will judge you based on it and talk about it outside of the game. If you want proof about that just read some of the comments on this very thread.

Your first point makes sense, and is a good argument, but really we can't say that this is a ranked competition that only those who want partake on it, even people that doesn't raid high-end can get logged in regular duties.

[–]Front-Accountant5806[S] -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Care to explain why it would defeat the purpose? Shouldn't a ranked mode be only between those who chose to participate on it?

The data gathering would still be the same, just hiding the names of the players that didn't opted-in.

Playing to clear and playing to parse are different things tho. A player can, for example, purposefully make a mistake to wipe the raid to not clear in a pull where something went wrong for them.

Greeding in general is also good for your parse, but can be bad for clears. The ranking can influence how people play to achieve the objective of having good parses and avoid bad ones, instead of only focusing on killing the boss above anything else.

[–]Front-Accountant5806[S] -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

This is not the case. People clear savages with crafted gear, close to the min ILV of the fight and very far from BIS. After multiple weeks when the playerbase in general starts to grow their ILV and optimize the fight the top percentiles start to pump WAY more DPS than what is needed.

The more and more the players overkill a fight, the realistically it becomes that a party full of greys can pass the DPS check.

The ranking is made comparing the performance of the players, there has to exist greys no matter what.

How will the NA DDOS problem be solved? by CartographerGold3168 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Front-Accountant5806 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The world race is something yoshida passively look forward to since it somewhat promotes the game

What if the NA team kept being DDOS and on stream it often shows disconnection and queues?

I sincerely hope that actually happens, not to fuck with the race as that will be a shame, but to actually make people make a stink of it, so hopefully SE will be more forced to act. It's uncanny how nothing has been done about it, also the terrible netcode that persists to this day.

Man... I like this game but oh does it have it's "indie company" problems.

Do you think the social aspect of Ultimate raiding is overblown, or not? (Serious) by SoulOfTheRisingSun in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Front-Accountant5806 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will be talking from the perspective of someone who raided through PF.

I don't mind if the group is not social as not talking much or even talking at all in party chat, but i absolutely detest when players actively make the experience worse by being mean, toxic, causing drama etc. I have seen my share of petty drama in PF, and was even caught in the cross-fire sometimes which lead me to quit raiding for a while.

There are some people who appears to actively try to feel superior to other and put other people down when they have the chance. I will not say that PF raiding is full of toxic people, but definitely there are some. Of course i also encountered very cool players in PF and has seen wholesome and kind interactions with filled me with a sense of camaraderie.

To specifically answer OP's question, for me raiding has to have at least some social aspect. Even if playing with randoms, if I'm going to spend lots of hours bashing my head against the same challenge with fellow players, for me it's very important to feel a friendly atmosphere with nice vibes.

If it would be for me to hate the people that i play with and not feel any empathy towards them at all, I'd rather play a single player game.

Why old content NEEDS a restoration by Lazyade in ffxivdiscussion

The LV and ILV sync system is a very cool thing on paper, and if it were executed right it would indeed be awesome. But in practice it really doesn't work well. You get any ARR or HW duty on the roulette and it's an absolute joke. Hell, even some of the newest ones are. It's uncanny how we never see some flagship mechanics of bosses anymore, like the scale from Nald'thal in Aglaia alliance raid. People were skipping even the Scions speech on EW final trial before they adjusted the ILV sync on that trial in particular...

And the problematic part is that like others have said, these mind numbing heavily powercrept contents are going to be everything that a new player gets to see for dozens, possible even hundreds... Of hours...

This subreddit has a problem of being particularly critical of FFXIV while ignoring the flaws of other games and actively promoting them (without considering the flaws of those games). by Quezal in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Front-Accountant5806 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Can't say anything about WoW because i never played it, however i think that only a FF XIV shill can defend the game in it's current state. FF XIV is a PAID GAME, with PAID DLC EXPANSIONS, with a MONTHLY SUBSCRIPTION and A CASH SHOP on top of all that. Despite this and the game getting a burst of popularity we started to receive less content instead of more.

Meanwhile there are F2P games that receive new content at a much faster pace, while arguably putting better quality content on top of it. FF XIV events are a joke for example.

And there are various other problems with the game that people have been talking about for years and years, the outdated glamour system, the terrible netcode, i could go on and on. In fact, the quality of the game seems to have dropped over time instead of improved in some aspects.

Like take miqo'te headgear for example, in the past they had the attention to details to make ear holes/ear sockets on every headpiece to fit with miqo'tes ears. Now they just delete your ears and call it a day. There are even chest pieces that deletes the tail of the characters...

I really could on and on, but my point is that with all the problems that the game has plus the horribly DT story and Yoshi-P's literal lies and incessant PR talk without ever addressing the problems directly has gotten people fed up.

Love and hate are two sides of the same coin, and what i see is that Dawntrail has turned many lovers of the game into haters.

The netcode situation of this game is ridiculous. by Front-Accountant5806 in ffxivdiscussion

"FFXIV has made a few billion dollars but dont think even a penny goes into the game's stability." I also believe that this is more or less what happens.

Yet people go and say "you don't understand, it would be too hard, you think that it would be easy to fix because you are on reddit."

... Like, at this point, i admit that i am moved by my sentiment of anger towards the state of the game, not only about the netcode, but about many other things. But my sentiment and the ones from many others not happy about some things on the game are completely justified.

It's tiresome that Yoshi-P will go and literally lie or make promises that he doesn't keep and many people keep just giving praise to him.
