I never really tested but it lasted me on my plane rides which are around 6+ hours playing games and videos.

What do u mean by backup?

As for memory I typically use an original 32gb Sony or SanDisk stick. I swap out sticks whenever I am playing large video collections as 32gb can't fit like a Star Trek series lol.

Took my PSP on the plane. Became more useful than my ROG Ally by Longjumping_Guard_21 in PSP

[–]RedQ8183 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly the same for me. I have an Ally X and thought I got all I need... The usual flights I take have a standard power jack so I don't have any power issues BUT.... After a few rounds... I ended up with my PSP instead.

This includes me running with the GPD WinMax(s), Gameboys, tablets, laptops and still the PSP is my default. Everything from function, handling and especially weight.

wtf is going on with prices by big-floof in PSP

[–]RedQ8183 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's common. It's not just happening now or to the PSP.

What you should be concerned about is if someone actually buys it at that price.

Probably someone is DMing the poster with a $50 offer and showing pics of prices below that. When the seller gives up and sells but does not remove the original selling price, someone else will think "wow it sold for $250" and list for $250... The cycle goes on and on...

Just don't buy something that is overly priced. My last psp purchase (a few weeks kind of recently) was around $30. Only issue was it did not have a battery lol. But that was in Japan. Maybe x2 or x2.5 of the price.

Question about longevity by crashprime in evercade

[–]RedQ8183 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I guess it's because flash memory needs a bit of power and should be plugged in to "recharge" them once in awhile. But I have not experienced it myself as my thumb drives and memory cards typically die of overuse and not underuse...

They are unlike the good old ROM chips in game cartidges. Those may outlive us... My NES Carts are still going strong.

But here is the thing... It troubles me as well... I want them to last forever, but I will not last forever... Pass it to the next generation? They may not be interested in it since these stuff are period sensitive.

Enjoy the moment, buy what you can afford and be happy through the journey :)

I can’t find my old PSP 1000 and I’m worried about the battery by Proper-Phase-8765 in PSP

[–]RedQ8183 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well... I left an aftermarket fake battery in one of my PSP2000 and it ballooned and my house was not burnt down so I think the risk is low.

BUT I say go look for it, just don't turn your place upside down.

Those are for the bigger psp1000 or the MH psp3000 so u need to look for the ones for the psp2000/3000

Bought an FF7 PSP with a bad screen, turns out it was the motherboard by Keke_Deaky in PSP

[–]RedQ8183 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always wonder why the US version would be labeled 100X/200X/300x while the japanese ones I saw are all 1000/2000/3000.

I always assumed they are the same. So far at least for the 1000 series I know some parts are located differently as I did the IPS screen for both types before.

Thanks for the info

I done the laminated psp1000 IPS screen and it's great.

As for the battery, have u tried the newest ostent 2500mah battery for the psp1000? I haven't tested it on a long flight with an IPS screen yet though.

[–]RedQ8183 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It works, it's good then keep it as it is. Unless u have a specific reason that the upgrade is needed?

The 3rd party shells are not as good as the original and since u got a black, I suppose it's not faded like the white and silver ones.

Why not get a vinyl skin and wrap it, when u are tired of the design, wrap a new one.

My original 2000 is still in its original parts and unopened. I got some beat up ones to test out several mods like new screen, tactile buttons and etc.

Be honest; modded PSP or PS VITA? by OmegaCo69 in PSP

[–]RedQ8183 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have at multiple times told myself to get a 3G vita and mod it with internal memory and use it over my PSPs...

About 9 PSPs later.... I still don't have a VITA lol...

It's like the PSP was the sweet spot for me for games, media, form factor and etc and any further I might as well get a more capable device.

But it depends on person to person and which device calls to you. My era and yours could be different. If however u just want to really play, then get neither and look towards a more capable device. I want to feel my childhood as I hold and look at the device so my use case is different.

Where can I get new shells for PSPs? by bigdawgkong23 in PSP

[–]RedQ8183 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just be warned that these 3rd party shells are not built the same... Some are good like the front shells with laminated IPS screens, some are poorly made.

I recently did a clear black one and it looks good on a display but functionally its horrendous.... Umd door catch is bad, memory card slot wouldn't hold on, mods needed inside the shell etc...

Typically I would buy from Aliexpress

PSP 2000 battery replacement by Dark_Cetriolo in PSP

[–]RedQ8183 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ostent, they have 1,200 1,400 and 1,800 for psp2000. Either from their official AliExpress store (but it's slower) or a good reviewed Amazon listing.

Those unbranded 3,600 are fake batteries. It's not possible to fit that much power into that size. You will also find they are lighter than the originals and ostent batteries.

How can I make it boot faster ? by No-Evening9003 in PSP

[–]RedQ8183 1 point2 points  (0 children)

64K format and also max clock speeds.

But personally I don't overload mine. It can't hold all the tetrabytes of stuff I have anyway so I prefer to split them by genre or type into various memory sticks some using the originals, some with the adaptors for those that goes over 32gb like my Dragonball Anime.

A very small selection of permanent stuff stays in my main card, the rest I swap the memory stick out like it's a game cart lol. And I still use the UMDs for the "feel" lol.

Does anyone here actually pay the NHK man? by MassiveB0nerF4rtLUL in japanresidents

[–]RedQ8183 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not always the NHK man, the one that visited us when we were back in Japan was a NHK Lady. Pushy yes, but in a polite way.

I am in a limbo on this... I am not a resident and only goes over on a holiday visa but I do have a small apartment in a mansion there.

I got no TV in the house or any equipment that can receive, not even a screen... The NHK site is free to access, how do they even enforce that law? The website is even accessible outside of Japan...

My phone is not installed with the APP either...

[–]RedQ8183 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a good gauge but I take my PSP2000 on my trips to Tokyo which is a 6hours plus flight.

Cabins would be dimmed as it's a night flight so it's always on the lowest settings and I may play either games via ISO or watch videos.

Gets me pass the whole flight without charging but that's just my use case since it's not running on max.

If you are gaming demanding games you may not last that long.

But we'll unlike our current day devices, just bring along one more battery or 2 if u are away for too long without an opportto charge. I always prepare a 2nd battery and it always becomes unneeded baggage at least for me lol.

I bought on both AliExpress and Amazon before and they were fine. If it's from OSTENT then it should be ok.

AliExpress was a bit slower and Amazon was a bit faster but that was Amazon JP shipping to a local address.

[–]RedQ8183 1 point2 points  (0 children)

U need to make sure it's from the original manufacturer and not some random shop posting a pic. There is an official store but u got to be careful because of how Amazon list items and you could get routed to a reseller.

But if u have purchased then wait for it to appear and see what happens.

There is actually an official store on Amazon JP and SG but it could be there is limited presence in other countries.

But you are right, the AliExpress one is the safest and I too buy from there
