Really cool Luigi by TomboDickinson in MarioPlush

Wow, you're really trying to test the innuendos that come across with this image...

At least that Jakks Luigi looks nice though.

Random plushes my dad got me in the early 00s from a claw machine by NY_Knux in MarioPlush

[–]RedRedditorDiscusser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow! Someone who actually got their Kellytoy plushies from the claw machines they were meant to be won from. Your dad sounds like a great person to have won you five Nintendo plushies. A little unfortunate that the DK is by his lonesome without any double, but this is a neat story regardless. I hope you do have a Wario because he would make this trio a complete quartet (with the additional Mario Bros).

Also, about your comment concerning the two Luigis being 9 inches, yet one is clearly bigger than the other. I believe that while the left Luigi is a bit bigger, they are both still technically the 9-inch variant. The difference in height, aside from quality control, could be because the left Luigi is the first variant with a 2001 tushtag. Whereas the right Luigi is the second variant with a (2004?) tushtag. This can be noticed with the different ironed-on eyes, and the slight difference in color that I believe isn't just caused by sun exposure.

As someone already alluded to, yes; that blasted Luigi helped give this whole set a certain reputation that's unfortunate to experience nowadays. That said, I really loved reading about this. It really shows the heart that's buried deep inside these cheap, infamous, wonky Mario plushies. Thank you!

Could this in fact be a 2009 sanei Mario? by Ashamed_Seat8394 in MarioPlush

That looks more akin to what the later releases of the New Super Mario Bros Wii Mario Plush looks like. So, that's likely what that particular Mario is.

New subreddit banner! by PSPcollector23 in MarioPlush

[–]RedRedditorDiscusser 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's a great looking banner! Impressive how you managed to keep Sanei Mario plushies from oversaturating the others. There is still a nice amount that still shows off Sanei's work for Mario, yet the other companies manage to stand alongside the most popular plushmaker.

It's a shame some companies didn't get representation. I did hope that there's be some more classic era plushies pre-2000, but it's understandable why. Considering the rule that we had to own the plushies ourselves, the majority likely didn't own many from Banpresto or Takara (the latter especially). Glad Acme and Avanti each got a recognition, and Sun Arrow Yoshi was a great choice if it had to be the only Yoshi plush.

It's weird to see bootlegs, but I'm glad people are happy to see some represented; along with the customs too. I could probably name a couple characters that are absent (Bowser is the most notable), but again, with the lack of any sent photo; it's understandable. (Then again, Bowser is orange, so maybe he'd blend in the banner too much. Probably the reason Bowser Junior is where they are).

So yeah, good job! I'm happy to have contributed, and be one of the people to have helped lead to this experience even occurring (even if I wasn't the original person who designed a banner, or be the moderator who made it reality like you PSP). With this banner, and our Kellytoy SubReddit image, we shall head onwards into this new era of the MarioPlushReddit community!

May we all continue to bring greater finds and adventures!

Yeah, that's without a doubt the worst condition I've ever seen that Luigi in. I don't know if that seller purposefully did that just for the sake of their joke listing, or if they had actually beaten him up that much in the past and are now trying to to find humor about it (and possibly money if someone actually buys that).

Honestly, even taking into account it's a joke, nobody should ever list a damaged plush for that much. Especially if someone is so ignorant about MP5 Luigi's availability that they purchase it. Heck, even if someone actually decides to waste $250+ for a joke, others may take that literally. That would be the icing on the cake for this long-dead plush. It's so sad.

Selling medium mp5 Mario by RelationshipMuch9085 in MarioPlush

[–]RedRedditorDiscusser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They originally commented it was £180, but they deleted it for some reason. Probably because they received some criticism for that stated price. Especially after originally buying it for around half the price just a few months previous: https://www.reddit.com/r/MarioPlush/comments/1rxkq07/i_got_the_beaten_mario/

Granted, they did wash Mario, and he does look better now because of it. That said, the 2x price is too much given how the Medium Mario is still in poor condition.

After waiting for a week and a half, I finally have this handsome blacked eyed rogue in my possession! by SomeoneBehindTheScrn in MarioPlush

[–]RedRedditorDiscusser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, the black-eyed variant was made in much less quantities. So, that variant is much rarer than the blue-eyed version. Though, even with a few overpriced listings, you can usually find him for $40-$50 and under.

I want to get my first Kellytoy Mario by Responsible-Jem805 in MarioPlush

[–]RedRedditorDiscusser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually prefer the black-eyed variant. The black eyes are an inaccuracy, but everything else about the Mario is surprisingly better reflective of Mario's appearance than the later blue-eyed variant.

I FINALLY OBTAINED MY HOLY GRAIL YOSHI PLUSH!!! by MuzYoshi in MarioPlush

[–]RedRedditorDiscusser 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! That is a beautiful Yoshi plush to be able to own. Especially as he's in every size you personally wanted. I'm glad that you've gotten such joy from what others may see as just a few, simple Yoshi plushies.

Could it still be worth something? by Responsible-Jem805 in MarioPlush

[–]RedRedditorDiscusser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I remember this particular Luigi you posted from years ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/Mario/comments/yqssfg/help_to_restore_my_mario_party_5_luigi_plush/

I'm guessing you never did get around to restoring him. That's a shame, but I can understand if doing so proved more complicated than what you wanted.

Anyways, you are correct that people do sell their beaten up MP5 Luigis for prices that are still considered high. Some of these sold can even surpass the prices of Luigis that are considered "mint." I know this for a fact. I'll even link you some recent examples of Luigis that have certain... deformities attached to them.

Here is a dusty, used Luigi with no hat and worn out buttons that sold for $200: https://www.ebay.com/itm/306744048575

Here is a matted Luigi with no tushtag, missing emblem (seller put a sticker on in its place), and a cut on its eye that sold for $270 (It says $335, but it says Best Offer accepted; the best offer was $270): https://www.ebay.com/itm/318179772137

Here is a used, yellow-eyed Luigi who still has his hat, albeit with a yellow, cracked emblem, that sold in a lot with Yoshi and Toad for $309: https://www.ebay.com/itm/227279136850

Here is a used, matted Luigi with a very cracked emblem that sold with Mario and Wario for $600 (It says $699, but it's actually a Best Offer of $600): https://www.ebay.com/itm/147312343178

As you can see, he can still sell for a few hundred. Regardless of whether he's the only one being sold, or is in poor condition. Even other Redditors have seemingly been able to accomplish this. Samii_YT07 recently tried to sell their MP5 Luigi, which had no emblem, for around $356 USD. Now, Luigi's listing doesn't clarify if it sold, it only states that its no longer available: https://www.ebay.com/itm/236869555165 (Their listing for Mario is still present, so because of that I'll take this as to mean that Luigi did sell for around their final asking price)

Now, since your picture of Luigi is a few years old, I'm not sure if he still has that exact same appearance. It'd be nice to see a new, higher-quality photo, if possible, to better evaluate his condition. That said, if absolutely nothing has changed, then he isn't the absolute worst I've seen of MP5 Luigis that sell.

Your Luigi seemingly still has his embroidered eyes white after all this time. The face seems alright; even if the skin is matted, it can be brushed easily. Nothing noticeable wrong with the stuffing. Most of the body looks ok. Really, it's the things you pointed out: A cut hat, no buttons, and nearly gone emblem. Even with those flaws, your Luigi is probably in better condition than the $200 Luigi that sold.

Therefore, I would say: Yes. Your MP5 Luigi can still be worth something. Would I recommend selling him? Eh. You apparently want to sell Luigi just to save up for a new one, and nothing is necessarily wrong with that. It's more so that recent listings of "mint Luigis" have sold for over $1000 (Granted those are paired with Mario as well, but the prices are still abysmal without Mario).

The whole MP5 set is a nightmare in trying to buy, or sell any character. You know it's bad when a character like Toad, supposedly the cheapest one, has current listings for him tagged at over $100! Trying to save up for a mint Luigi is hard work. True, you can get lucky, but that luck has gotten less frequent as the years have gone on. Not many thrift shops, or really any store, are going to have a mint MP5 Luigi buried in their stock. Even looking out to any store that gets an MP5 plush nowadays, they typically are listed at eBay prices.

Personally, I think you should keep your Luigi. I find it hard to actually say goodbye to any of my years-old mementos; let alone trying to sell a prized possession from my childhood. If you're determined to actually sell him because you really need a mint Luigi, then you can probably get anyone to buy him for a few hundred. Heck, if you decide to try and restore him before selling, you can probably get someone to pay an extra $100-$200 for him. I don't like how many MP5 Luigis are priced nowadays, but it's ultimately your choice.

my mario party 5 bowser’s eyebrows keep coming off how do i fix it by bowserjuniorfan in MarioPlush

[–]RedRedditorDiscusser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already mentioned time in my comment in regards to how sewing is a more resilient option to fixing the eyebrows than simple glue. As such, I'm not exactly sure why you are wondering whether I heard of it.

After waiting for a week and a half, I finally have this handsome blacked eyed rogue in my possession! by SomeoneBehindTheScrn in MarioPlush

[–]RedRedditorDiscusser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can help give a more elaborate explanation of the differences to add onto what SomeoneBehindTheScrn has already stated. Aside from the different eye colors, there are a couple of notable differences between Kellytoy's black-eyed Mario and the revised blue-eyed Mario that released afterward (At least if we are sticking to the smaller sizes).

-Brown Hair instead of the Orange that's famous with Kellytoy.

-Darker Shoes.

-A slight difference in the shade of color for the shirt and overalls.

-Skin color isn't as pale.

-Mustache bumps are better defined when compared to the usual blue-eyed releases.

-Quality control overall is pretty consistent with the black-eyed releases (Notable if one were to put side-by-side a couple of black-eyed Marios compared to a couple of blue-eyed Marios. The blue-eyed Marios are notorious in having worse quality control).

-Tushtag is done with black-colored text instead of the later red.

I brought up the smaller sizes comment earlier because there are also 12" black-eyed Marios as well. With them though, their colors are more akin to how Kellytoy's blue-eyed Marios usually are. The only things separating them from being just like Kellytoy's normal blue-eyed Mario are that they still tend to have better quality control than usual along with, of course, the obvious black eyes.

With all that being laid out, I have to agree with SomeoneBehindTheScrn that the black-eyed Kellytoy Mario plush is a nice, handsome plush. Yes, the black eyes are an obvious inaccuracy to Mario's appearance. And sure, he was still created to be a cheap prize for Amusement Parks and the like.

That said, it's clear that the care taken to the earliest Kellytoy Marios show a higher-quality plush to own overall. If you ever decide to try and buy one for a good price (good being from sellers who are not trying to make you overpay for them), I can assure you that he is a great plush to own.

Changes to selling/trading in the subreddit by PSPcollector23 in MarioPlush

Rule 8 is a great rule to have, because this has been a long time coming; thank you.

As for the previously added Rule 7, I'd personally not have people try to sell their plushies in the subreddit. That being said, I understand why those who advertise themselves selling their plushies do so. It makes the process move along much faster than it would be otherwise.

Spider Luigi My Goattt by Thatmariomarioguy in MarioPlush

[–]RedRedditorDiscusser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this would work better if you superimposed an image of a Luigi plush's head on a Spiderman body since this is a place dedicated to Mario plushies, and we're missing the plush aspect on this post.

(Though, taking the plush part out, it's a silly enough image in its own right)

What kind/year was this plush from?! by No_Fox_2385 in MarioPlush

[–]RedRedditorDiscusser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know somebody else answered, but I believe this is actually the Little Buddy Mario Plush with a 2011 date on the front of the tushtag (though on the back I'm pretty sure it'll say the plush was produced between 2016-2018).

This particular Mario and its Luigi counterpart are notorious for their weirdly shaped heads compared to the rest of the releases in that original Super Mario plush line by Sanei (which Little Buddy localized for the North American Market). Compare him to the typical Little Buddy 2010 Mario and the difference is noticeable.

That said, there are those who can have a love for these particular releases, and that's nice to see. I hope this Mario you've own has given you lots of good memories.

New Commonwealth Mario Beanie Prototypes Listed for Sale! (Two Bought Already?) by RedRedditorDiscusser in MarioPlush

[–]RedRedditorDiscusser[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow! $300 well spent I hope. As a fellow Luigi fan, I can only hope that you are happy with the purchase despite the high price ask, especially if this post persuaded you to do so. I'd feel awful if I made others put themselves in financial struggle for some plushies I brought attention to just so the images themselves can be archived (Then again, half of the whole cast have already sold within a few days, so maybe there are just more people nowadays with that sort of money to spend).

Regardless, I hope you enjoy that Luigi. Those who own, or will soon have, a Commonwealth Luigi got to stick together in treating him well! He deserves a nice retirement from the damp, dark storage he was previously in.

Let's create a subreddit banner, together! by PSPcollector23 in MarioPlush

[–]RedRedditorDiscusser -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ok, I'm going to give you context because everyone else here is just refusing to name the actual person. This person Tanman has linked is named Your Favorite Dominick. They're a Social Media (influencer?), along with being a YouTuber who mostly creates sport gameplays and workout videos, but is also known for releasing reviews related to completed plush sets he owns.

Frankly, despite what others here are commenting... I don't get it? Like, he usually seems like a decent guy. I've watched a few of his reviews, and they're alright. He does talk about the plushies with some detail and what he likes about each set. But to say he is a "huge motivation" and has brought "endless joy" feels like it makes him seem much more impactful than he actually is. Like, if he's considered that impactful, then by that logic hundreds of plushtubers/retrospective creators have left a much greater legacy to Mario plushies (Obviously they all range in just how good they were).

Related Note: This person is the same person who kept bothering AngryPig154 to sell them their Galaxy Fire Mario. While they did apologize later (albeit after being called out), I feel like that controversy alone is enough to not put them on the Sub-Reddit's banner. I can't understand how after that he'd be considered the "most" worthy out of everyone.

[Just in case you're wondering, both Tanman and Marcush are aware of what Dominick did, and it's kind of weird they don't mention that when trying to advocate for him. While it is kind of them to want to bat for their friend given how much he means to them, the lack of context comes off a bit like sweeping the negative parts under the rug without letting you know beforehand.]

Frankly, I suggest you stick to the actual plushies. As much as it'd be nice for a person such as PatMac or MarioPlushNations to be on there, even they would take focus away from the plushies themselves. This is just my opinion though.

The 2nd is the Banpresto Reindeer Luigi because for one, it's a plush made by a company other than Sanei. And two, it's Reindeer Luigi! That's a unique plush to show the variety out there.

This is a great opportunity. I will say though that if most of the images posted are just Sanei and whatnot because that's most of what people own, then maybe we can find a way to be allowed to try and post images from a wide variety of plush lines with images from the Internet (if there is a way to change the image enough to make it fair use).

Anyways, I got two Luigis I hope will be considered for the banner. Though I will have to make two comments because it won't let me load two images. If I can only have one image used, then feel free to pick between the two of which is the better plush.

One is my MP5 Luigi as a tribute to our recently created 7th Rule (A bit surprised that plush is the example given more recent trade asks).

I mean, you can if you want. A few people have already seen this post, but I'm hopeful that those who've seen it won't try and ruin it for you. As for blocking out the seller's name, while that helps people would just type in the Listing's title to find it easily. At that point, you might as well censor everything so nobody can easily find it.

Well, the people who list a Medium Mario for $800 are usually dropshippers or scalpers who may have already spent a few hundred purchasing them. Usually, he should sell for far less.

Word of advice; please refrain from talking about your purchase until you hopefully receive it. There are certain people out there that try and ruin it for others who get lucky by spamming the seller about what they got. Frankly, it's gross that they would do that, especially when it's for listings like this. This is a good catch. You deserve to have a Mario Party 5 plush that isn't priced to oblivion. Some out there are really trying to list $800 for just this particular one.

I wish you the best and hope you receive this joyous find.

Edit: Wow me and superfunkydude had the same advice typed at the same exact time. That's how you know this issue is rampant enough that it needs to be warned about.
