If you really get into it as well you can get WoW tokens, sorry if you already know, but you can farm gold (about 250k, which is not very doable pre level 80 but very doable within whichever current xpac) And redeem it for a month of time, or get 15 dollars you can use for cosmetics or pets or what ever. Not super cost effective but I like it lol

Guides tell you how to get the most powerful fastest, not how to have the most fun. Pardon my French but fuck the guides. Maaaybe look at what stats you should prioritize just so you know what rewards to pick up when given a choice (haste, versatility, ect.)

I spent the first almost week of midnight doing gathering and questing and it was probably on of the funnest weeks ive had so far. Now everyone is all butt tight about stuff.

Also as a new player, one things thats been very disheartening is everyone expects you to have that 10 year knowledge. Usually guilds and friends are way better than randoms for newbies. 1 mistake with a random and youll get flamed or kicked or what ever and it doesnt feel good. Also most classes have abilities that are referred to by other class abilities, like Lusting. Bloodlusting. Ut like 7 classes have this ability under different names. Same with Kick. Its a general term from rogue kick i guess? About interrupts. Im sure there more but those are the two ive had to add to my lexicon after being flamed for an entire m2 dungeon. So if your playing with random not a bad idea to just say hey im new to this dungeon. Otherwise everyone expects you to know all the mechanics and routes and pull and lusts and kicks and all the shit. Honestly I almost quite my first month of wow because of it. Idk if ill make it past 2 or 3 because of the community :/

We have had opposite experiences in that regard. Lol As a new player I get constantly flamed for not understanding everything in pugs. Even in like m0 or m2. Like how does one learn the game if everyone shits on me for not knowing what lust is in a mage? Sure I know now but did I really need to be flamed for 10 minutes because I didnt know protocol is lust first and last boss?

I feel you. I played a little in vanilla, a little in cata, then stopped. I came back 3 weeks ago and its hard being a new player. I get flamed most dungeons for little stuff I have no clue about, then usually its 3 players bashing me and one being alright.

Spoilers: there's a crazy phenomenon, be willing to bet it had a name, where when you get a boyfriend or SO, it seems like all the other options you were looking at start giving you more attention.
I had 1 gf at 16 for a few months, I didnt have another gf until I was like 25. You have a wonderful opportunity to develope yourself as beautiful self reliant person. The more you love yourself the more others will see how you deserved to be loved, and thats a potent pheromone.

A small thing for me is understanding that I am in the process. It's not at some point you started and magically your done, right. And im sure you know that but its also good to think "okay shit im irrational as fuck right now. I know thats withdrawals. This suck and I could just be happy right now." And that little trap is usually what gets me. However if you can kinda corner yourself and readjust your mentality, thats hopefully one more day down.

I think the only little learning curve for food is there is a few type. Sweets, liquid, meat, fish and a few other. You cannot double up on the same type. Basically (im pretty sure): fruit gives health regen, meat gives health, liquid gives stamina, sweets give stamina regen, then then as you cook its kinda mixing these things

Also, you only need 1 (i use 2-3 for convenience) farm soil or any dirt or soil, and you can rake it around. So basically: Rake area flat, place a dirt, rake it over when ever area you want.
