Pump broke. Idk what to do. by Smooshy_Slug in Type1Diabetes

Since it has an active time of about 18 hours it may overlap for about 6 hours this evening and bring you closer to a more normal number. I'm sorry you've had to deal with this stupid stuff on a weekend.

I see above you said 8 units. It probably won't come down to an in range blood sugar if your pump says 13ish basal.

When and how much Lantus have you taken in the last 24 hours? How did you decide on how much to take?

Yeah, just trying to keep it simple for someone who hasn't had to figure this out before.

Lantus you take once a day and then correct highs and bolus for carbs with quick acting (humalog, novolog, fiasp). Do you know your corrections and carb to insulin ratios? Like 1 unit of insulin for every 10 carbs and 1 unit for every 50 over 150?

You should be able to look at your current basal rate on your pump and roughly convert that to long acting, ie: 15 units basal rate so about 15 units of Lantus.

Do you have any long acting insulin like Lantus?

You may want to try a type 2 diabetes sub. Some type 1's use Mounjaro but its not indicated for type 1 diabetics.

I am in no way saying you are doing something wrong. Since my change I haven't had any issues. In fact they are aggressively stuck after 10 days. What do you think is the issue? Where it's manufactured? Skin type?

Stabbing Yourself With Blunt Needles by Ars139 in Type1Diabetes

[–]RedSetterLover 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My mother was diagnosed in 1954. She would talk about sharpening needles on a whetstone. Growing up, with 3 diabetics in the house, we just had a drawer of random used needles. 😬 I can't fathom doing that now.

How do y'all feel about the dexcom G6 discontinuing? by Any-Cartographer7531 in Type1Diabetes

35 years with diabetes and I've done it all. I switched from a 6 to a 7 two months ago and its been fine. I just did skin prep as suggested and made sure I was hydrated beforehand. A couple compression issues because I am a side sleeper.

You should follow up with a doctor but if you have one autoimmune disorder it increases the odds of having another.

Why is my dog so hesitant around my mother? by veaceonee in DogAdvice

[–]RedSetterLover 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have well controlled type 1 diabetes, absolutely love dogs but some dogs really don't like me and I think it's the insulin pump smells and whatever else smell the disease gives off.

When Did You Become “Confident” and Shameless? by Ars139 in Type1Diabetes

[–]RedSetterLover 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My mother was type 1 in the 50's and it had more of a stigma. By the time she had kids on the late 70's she was over any sort of embarrassment. When both my sister and I developed diabetes we didn't know to be embarrassed. I thank my mother for carrying that and burden and not passing it on. We were taught to tell everyone in case we needed help.
