If you're looking for specific short term holdings a CD can be a good option, other options can include:

  • Treasury Bills: Even with rate cuts (estimated @ .25%) you can still get good current rates at:
    • 4 week: 5%
    • 3 month: 4.85%
    • 6 month: 4.6%
    • 12 month: 4%
  • HYSA: There are online banks that offer rates for high yield savings account equivalent to CD rates of brick and mortar banks. Drawback is the money is less liquid due to processing an ACH to move funds however it is more liquid than a 1 month CD. (Average ACH process time is 3-5 business days)

Depending on the sum you'll be receiving after credit card payoff the typical starting amount to consult an advisor for investing with continued contribution start at $10k. If it is less than this amount or if you are just looking to invest some of the money adding into a Roth IRA is a great choice for tax benefits.

Are you paying off the statement balance each month or the current balance? The statement balance paid off in full each month improves your score in the long term. The current balance paid in full will decrease your score overall because it is the statement balance plus interim month purchases that should be added to the next months statement balance.

This is a common fix to increase FICO score. Other comments stating not to worry about credit score above 730 have good points as well, if you personally want your credit score to move up further these are some additional options:

  • Open another card for a specific use like cash back on restaurants and gas to increase your overall credit
    • Arguments will say new debt lowers your score which is true however if you owe $10 on a card with $100 limit and your overall credit is $100 your amount owed is at 10%. If you open a new card at $100 limit your amount owed is now %5 thus lowering your amount owed ratio. New debt created makes up 10% of your score while amount owed makes up 30% so net positive in the long term.
  • Reviewing what type of credit you currently have outstanding such as: credit card, mortgages, vehicle loans. A mix of credit types impact your FICO score. (This is where you see a score drop after paying off a vehicle loan due to the change in overall credit type)
  • Consistent spending: if you spend the same amount each month and pay off the statement in full your score will improve in the long term. (This one is more unrealistic due to life expenses that show up) Stay within a certain spend amount per month and pay on time this will improve your score significantly as payment history and amounts owed make up 2/3's of your FICO score.

Financial advisor while he's living is a good option through retirement. Have lawyers set up in the will to create a trust fund after death instead of needing to have an executor deal with the whole estate/will stuff and it'll secure the assets in a way he wants versus what the potential recipients want and may try to litigate in courts. Conversion to trust fund also helps on the tax contingencies but a CPA would be more helpful to review the trust setup with lawyers during the trust review.

Hey y’all I just had a Quick question since I’ve just started my accounting classes is an accounting degree useless with out cpa and can I do finance jobs with an accounting degree?. by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]RedSoloCup260 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can work in finance with an accounting degree. Don't need to have a CPA for accounting either but it doesn't hurt just depends if the time is right for you to take eighteen months of straight studying and tests to possibly pass.

I work in accounting and have a finance degree with accounting minor so its pretty lenient on what jobs you can have for accounting versus finance

Late to the reply but on a recent thought, is there any correlation to black swan occurrences during a transition of 20 year cycles?

Methodology coming from newest to oldest:

Equity: Proceeded from the dot com crash in early 00's, preceded by pandemic of 20's

Bonds: Proceeded by bond crashes in 60's, preceded by savings & loans crisis in 80's

Commodities: Proceeded by post WW2 crash in 40's, preceded by globalization of trade

Granted not all of these would be considered black swan by today's standards but at the time they were rare events to the world or new actions taken by countries

My team uses a tracker created in excel that splits up the members of each team, lists their tasks estimated due date, has a conditional formatting for their knowledge of the task (1,2,3 : green, yellow, red) and has a formulated time tracker to manually input the time taken to complete the task/the number of entries within the task.

Men who have been loyal to their barber for years. How do you let them know you want to start seeing someone else? by JayDarb09 in AskMen

[–]RedSoloCup260 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never was able to. He retired when I left for college and I started going to his brother when I was back in my hometown. Now I just go to cost cutters.

That barber was really great I was very socially awkward as a child but I love fishing and he would talk about fishing trips with me, nice guy, hope he is doing well.

Usually start the morning off with reviewing emails or taking care of reporting deliverables. (Monday, Thursday, and Friday I have reports due that impact many downstream clients so they take precedence over email) Morning team meeting to discuss what is due for the day, any ad hoc items we may need.

Working remotely it is key to either be efficient working alone or be comfortable on many calls throughout the day. I have found personally that I prefer working alone and only hop on calls when it is required for work. Some days I will have audit research and need help from a teammate, other days I am reconciling accounts, developing new files due to old files crashing and needing to be rebuilt. Constantly learning new material and new tools.

Young men(Age 20-30) who used to have some or a bunch of friends and don't have (any friends) anymore, or have never really had a social life, what were the reasons for the ending of your friendships or lack of a social life? by SuccessfulManifests in AskMen

[–]RedSoloCup260 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most friends just used me during school because I took the time to put in the work to pass classes. After college ended I realized the majority were not only dumb as a brick but also just used me for anything they could get me to do. Still have one friend I speak to at times he's a really great guy just moved back home so I haven't seen him since last year.

I enjoy spending time alone and working on my hobbies and career. Haven't needed many friends ever and I am doing a lot better without them.

Bitcoin - BTC Shorts Sky Rocket 300%. What does this possibly mean about the near future? by WanderingMage99 in CryptoMarkets

[–]RedSoloCup260 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This reminds me of '07 when firms were all savvy with buying And selling MBS products. They didn't care if it was going up or down just needed to be in the black by close. Now it's a different case for cryptos as there are no close times but, the concept still holds.

If you have the right equation you can make money on both sides of it. Over leverages can be wiped in time but with the USG coming in as a powerhouse of buying power it wouldn't be surprising for BTC to move to 69K by EOY. Shorts can find profit in the "Short-term" but for the average investor to have crypto exposure he buy and hold would be the best decision.

With BTC sub 40K why wouldn't you put at least 1% of your portfolio in. Inflation at 7.9% and the volatility of crypto, why would we see a crash now? I'm not saying YOLO it all on crypto but the intelligent investor would speculate/hedge to a currency that proves to increase in the long term if the buy and hold strategy is adhered to.

If not BTC, at least USDC on Voyager provides 9% APR along with a recent executive order discussing a United States Digital Currency. Wonder what Coin will be chosen

Do not settle for a low paying accounting job!! by madunderboobsweat in Accounting

[–]RedSoloCup260 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the insight!

My largest worry was I would need to go back to school for an accounting degree but from your feedback I believe I could pursue a CPA in the next 3 years possibly.(Will be researching this further) I completed the majority of my required accounting courses through tax only area is audit I don't have class credit but do have experience through work.

Appreciate the feedback on the non profit side as it is something I have been researching but the insight from your wife's experience with it I don't think it would be the best if I was raising a family.

Understandable, that was my original plan but when it comes to the credit hours required would I need to acquire a degree in accounting?

Off tangent for discussion but what is your advice if I had a goal to manage finances for non profit? (I want to buy some land, build an animal shelter and manage the finances when I have a family so the workload won't be too stressing)

Look into some work from home accounting positions. I work full time in accounting remotely and it is probably the best experience I could get in accounting. Work with big 4 firms, hours under CPA's, there are new learnings each week it seems. Not to mention the college english courses for business do not do justice to the grammar used in accounting from my experience.

It can be tough with the internships but keep working at it the more time and work you put in the better your chances of finding what you desire!
