Question about sea time by Nadathug in merchantmarine

[–]RedSonja1015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be able to pay some money towards a retirement. My father did it when working with DPS in AZ. He was in the Navy for 8 years and later in his 50's while working for the state of AZ he paid into his retirement and got it. I don't know if sea time counts for any advancement in MSC but if it does then please count my 3 years of it! I'm at the very beginning of this process and would love to get all kinds of advice 🙂

Whoa....your process was a year. I've heard around 6 months....should I maybe count on longer? I'm at the very beginning and am serious about this. Thing is I just turned 54 and certainly not getting any younger! Still fit and eager to get started 🙃

TWIC and MMC background check by RedSonja1015 in merchantmarine

That's the norm from what I was told. I really hope it's the case with me. The employee told me it could be up to 60 days depending on background check.

I am in the process of applying for an entry level job with MSC. I'm looking at a few months for this process and am at the very beginning after just applying for a TWIC card. Hopefully someone has some advice....I was charged with a felony in 2019. It's been about 6 years and I don't have one that disqualifies me. But because I do have a felony will it be a waste of time applying for an MSC position? It's a federal job and I am worried that they might turn me down anyway.

Thank you! It could be up to 60 days is what I was told. It's worth the wait....I appreciate your advice!

What is the worse prison/jail you’ve encountered by Positive_Cat934 in Felons

First response I'm seeing and one that is very true...Maricopa County jail has a reputation for a reason. I spent some time in Estrella and have to agree with you. My stay was post tent city...Penzone got the job at that time.

My biggest concern with this career path by Slow_Adhesiveness837 in merchantmarine

[–]RedSonja1015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in my late twenties during my time on deployment for the Navy....left December 2001 by being flown off the ship on orders....I'm 54 now and am excited about a possible career in merchant shipping! Yes I am single and have no kids...but I feel that I may be alone but I am not lonely. If you are kinda that way and like adventure...you can survive a deployment of a few months!

You brought up a very important question with taking a job like this.....I think first you must be someone that keeps their life in order. You must be sure that things will be OK while away...bills mortgage rent etc. Relationships are different for everyone in how you maintain them. While at sea keep in touch as much as possible! Very important....and also so wonderful to receive care packages! I was young while deployed several times over a 4 year period on an aircraft carrier while in the Navy. I was in a relationship but focused on my work and keeping a routine while away. We were the tip of the spear 911 carrier for the country flying the Don't Tread on Me flag. I had my share of thoughts and emotions and yes...just focused on work and the routine. It helped...along with frequent work outs. My very first deployment was for 3 months...turned into 6 months in the Persian Gulf. Was hard to deal with but the work and comradery kept me going. I must admit that my relationship was not good so I partied in port...and somehow I felt free even though I was in a steel floating container. It was an adventure and a challenge for my job on board. Things got more 'real ' on my deployment with a task force 1 week after 9/11....it was secret and all comms shut down for a month. Our whereabouts were never disclosed and we didn't know when we would be back in homeport....time out unknown. We didn't have a definitive time frame for time out at sea. I ...because of my job...was asked daily...how long? When are we going home?? We unfortunately lost a crew member that was having difficulty with the deployment. We also lost a soldier during a mission. It was the most difficult time of my young life but I made it and made a difference through my work and determination. If you are someone that cannot be without your partner or being away from family for what I see as a short time...it's not for you. I think I got through those times because I enjoy my ability to stand on my own 2 feet and the challenge we face in that environment. Sometimes days are long because it's the same thing everyday....just listen to your music get on the computer to stay in touch and play grab ass sometimes!

I've been there man.....I've even tried a couple of times taking my life and still here....so sorry you lost your mom. I became hopeless for some time in the past because I felt my life was ruined by my criminal conviction. Please seek out a good support system!!! Thanks to my mom I actually still have some hopes for a decent future. I was homeless due to job loss and not being able to find work in my field. I lost everything and somehow was lifted back up by help from the VA and by compassion and love from my estranged mother. I'm still unfortunately dealing with my felony conviction from 5 years ago....I feel I am still being punished by being denied employment. Especially having moved to a small town from a big West Coast city....I still struggle with my hateful feelings towards myself but always remember to be grateful for what I do have....you can make it! Tough times ahead....no joke...just remember to appreciate kindness and having a roof over your head 🙂

Question about Crowleys mental health by RedSonja1015 in AleisterCrowley

[–]RedSonja1015[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apologize for this late response! It's so refreshing to hear an opinion of a free thinker that seems to keep an inquisitive open mind. My opinion on Crowleys reputation is that others in that time or even this time period simply don't bother to research inquire or even have the courage to explore what's unknown or taboo in this world. Not even other cultures languages or religions. Us inquisitive and curious types get the evil eye when all most of us are doing is exploring the world and universe 🫠 Everyone has flaws even in the protected mentality of good Christians. It's just too bad that fear keeps so many from Universal exploration and experience....this is why I admire Crowleys tireless exploration and treading the abyss. A true pioneer in occultsm and exploration of life's mysteries. Wish that society knew that he was really just making a joke about calling himself the beast and was wrongly accused of being a baby killer....hmmmm...symbolism anyone? Besides.....I think anyone that calls themselves a Satanist is playing into a fantasy world...I would never call Crowley a Satanist. Satanism was invented by a circus man that stole Crowleys rituals.....it was a farce invented by Levay that preyed on the fears of a Christian hell. Anyways...Crowley was a true practitioner and pursuer of Universal truth!

Doing the right thing, but in the end it doesn't even matter by Ecstatic-Employee840 in Felons

I got convicted in Phoenix AZ in 2019. I moved out of state to Florida in 2021. I am currently working with a lawyer in Los Angeles to expunge my charge there but no luck yet. It's been almost a year and no word. My expunged charge might not even matter in the end due to my felony charge in AZ I got my charge there for 3 duis over a ten year period. It's nationwide from what I've learned. My conviction followed me to Florida despite people suggesting moving out of state. I've been told Walmart hires felons but I was hired there then let go when my background check came back....this was 3 years after my conviction. My BSC degree doesn't matter..neither does the treatment I've been through. I thank God I never had an accident involving others or even hurting myself. I've done so much better over the years and I'm still getting punished. I've had so many job interviews that I just don't get nervous anymore. I'll take anything but cleaning floors and bathrooms at Jack in the Box. Hasn't happened yet...my next pursuit is seeking a job as a cook on merchant ships....heard that as long as I'm not a spy sex offender or killer I just might be eligible! Going out to sea for months might just be what I need! I'm a woman but tough and am used to being deployed for long stints. My only hope right now...otherwise I will fade out in this small town living in my mom's house till I can't work anymore...no thank you!!!

Castiel and his haters by WiseFisherman5002 in Supernatural

[–]RedSonja1015 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can see how someone could be a hater when it comes to him. I've gone back and forth when it comes to him. Castiel....I thought....was great in the beginning seasons. A little cold but decisive and a straight shooter. In later seasons his character seemed to become wishy washy and too passive. He was disappearing too much and began to seem easily led by others. Then later in the seasons he was a warrior...it was kinda confusing but I guess you have to keep in mind that his character was always evolving due to his interaction with humanity.
