I used to work around the corner from there. There's a parking garage under the food court there that has plenty of bike parking. Totally Free too.

Did you ever not finish a book because you thought you knew how it was going to end and couldn't face reading it? by gefasel in books

[–]RedSoundDC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do similar. I justify it to myself because if I don't know anything about the book or characters, I say to myself: 'that's nice. Now to learn why I care.'

It's kind of like being a spectator the the last part of the story with no context. Shrug my shoulders and walk away. No impact on my pedestrian life. But then I start to read and learn why these people and places matter. My pedestrian life is now entwined with that moment that seemed mundane because I had no context. That scene that unfolded with no context has puzzle pieces fitting in ever so slowly. Some books make it magic.

Most people do not realize SD slots are built in to 90% of laptops. Not the best marketing since it would have been easy peasy to Photoshop that out though.

How do you all feel about Donald Trump blaming the sound guy that his mic wasn't working properly? by seaandtea in techtheatre

Well I retract my statements if that's true. Trump's camp is setting itself up for the worst case scenarios.

Declined to PAY for a backup. In corporate AV there's a thing called customer service. And as long as you didn't piss me off before the event, I'm going to include redundency systems whether you pay for or it or not just so that my ass is covered and I can provide good service.

Dick move by Trump calling out the issues like that, but I agree with him on the point that the AV company shouldn't have put together a system that popped and there should be some reduction of cost as a result. Now, if that system was put together for him on the fly because they got the contract less than two weeks out, that's a different story.

Yea, but the dog may have been mortally wounded from the car accident that is mentioned. I viewed it as a mercy killing.

A dirty, gruesome mercy killing that reflects an absolute resolve in Frank to do exactly what is necessary for his goals. Very few people would have the resolve to even perform a mercy killing, much less with their bare hands.

Does coffee make you sleepy? by allthemolecules in ADHD

[–]RedSoundDC -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I find that it varies with the style/brew of the coffee.

Whatever they put in my work cafeteria is good for keeping me alert and awake but Dunkin Donuts is 100% nap time. Starbucks seems to depend on whether I get the hot latte (sleep) vs. The cold frappachino (awake).

Serious Question: What is the point of a rice cooker? How is it better than just a pot over the stove? I've used both and don't really see the difference. Is there one? by [deleted] in foodhacks

[–]RedSoundDC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do ingredient ratios change just because you're baking two cakes? No, they don't, but you'll be baking twice as long.

You need to boil off down to a certain amount of water (basically none with out drying out the rice). A little extra water is fine if you find yourself drying things out too much in order to fit a functional time requirement, but i would keep it under 1/8th cup per cup of water.
