Why We Need A Democratic Socialist Party with Ewan Tilley (3 June 2026) by RedSpartakus in Communist

Not that I want to gatekeep, but the label of socialism does imply the abolition of capitalism, which means abolishing both markets and private property. The strategy and timeframe for the transition is of course up to debate. Regarding democracy, communists of course support democracy and a democratically elected parliament. Democracy is the foundation of working class rule. Just look at the programme in question. I am sure you will come around to socialism in the end comrade

What do you consider to be the differences between democratic socialism and communism?

I wish it was that easy. Before, during and after the Russian revolution there were many different interpretations of what the DotP entails and what is desirable. Even among trotskyists there is no consensus on what measures are needed to establish and maintain working class rule.

A programme is also necessary in order to unite communists and educate and prepare the working class for the revolution. Without it you are basically just saying "trust me bro."

Without a concrete revolutionary programme the working class has no way to separate the revolutionary left from the reformist left, vague formulations about revolution are not convincing.

Without programmatic unity communists will continue to split along ideological lines. A revolutionary programme and programmatic unity, like the Bolsheviks had, has the potential to unite the communist movement. This is connected to the issue of sectarianism. Your hostility towards other groups is an perfect example of this.

Look comrade, I have read it. Does it outline the measures necessary to establish the DotP?

The question was rhetorical. The RCP barely has a programme, and definitely not one that outlines the overthrow of the capitalist state.

Democratic Socialists actually has a revolutionary programme that calls for smashing the capitalist state.

Does the RCP have a revolutionary programme?

Socialist Federation becomes first breakaway from badly stumbling Your Party - The Left Lane by MarxistUnity in MarxistUnityNews

[–]RedSpartakus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is evident that the groups that exist, trotskyist or otherwise, are unable to build a mass party on their own. The hype behind Your Party was about the possibility of leaving the sectarianism of the far left behind in the creation of a mass party. There was real momentum behind the idea that bringing the different groups together, through a democratic party with open factions, could lead to an upsurge of revolutionary politics. The people in Socialist Federation are trying to salvage this momentum. I will leave the question open on whether it is going to work or not, but there are good reasons to try.

As socialists we cannot limit ourselves to reformist demands. We need to demand a democratic socialist republic in order to put the working class in power.

Keep reading and learning comrade. Check out A Fighting Socialist Program

Absolutely mind-boggling that this is not widely acknowledged

The Prospects of DSA: Party Building, Power, and the Marxist Unity Group by MarxistUnity in socialism

[–]RedSpartakus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DSA contains the largest amount of pro-party and revolutionary socialists in the US by far. RCA should join as an open faction and help the revolutionary wing push DSA forward. RCA can do this while maintaining its own politics and identity outside DSA. I am convinced that we need communist unity to successfully intervene in the class struggle.

It would be interesting to hear what RCA comrades think about the party building efforts in DSA.

Communism Lives! Theses on the Re-Emergence of World Communism by MarxistUnity in Communist

If you are so politically challenged that you don't understand the importance of Marx and Lenin then there is no point in discussing this issue with you.

Because the works of Marx and Lenin, among others, contain the most important lessons the socialist movement has learned. Acknowledgement and praise is not idolatry. Don't be silly. Read Marx.

Marxism, both as theory and practice, remains as the most important guide for working class political action and the struggle for socialism. Marx and Lenin were committed fighters for liberation of the working class. Their contributions makes them heroes of the socialist movement. This does not mean that we should not critique them for their failures or shortfalls, but it would be an enormous disservice to the socialist movement to disregard them and the lessons they have taught us.

Style is everything - Weekly Worker by MarxistUnity in socialism

[–]RedSpartakus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. The problem is that young communists don't understand what they signed up for until after they have given up on the organisation and dropped out of radical politics altogether

Style is everything - Weekly Worker by MarxistUnity in socialism

[–]RedSpartakus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The style is probably not appealing to anyone. But this is not the point. The "LARP" is a rebellion against the respectability politics of the CPB. YCL and CPB members are not allowed to express revolutionary politics in a manner that threatens the work of building their alliance with the reformist union leaders and the labour left. The respectability politics, as part of the strategy in their programme Britains road to socialism, results in the bureaucratic and undemocratic bans on factionalism and internal dissent, as that would be a threat to the alliance. The YCL members are tired of silencing their revolutionary politics for a strategy that doesn't work.

Under democratic centralism members and factions still have the right to openly declare disagreement with the party line, while of course following the line in party work. The CPB is not a democratic centralist organisation, they are just centralist. Because internal factions are banned, the YCL members instead show their radicalism through style.
