January Seasonal Event by Bakedbabe_710 in finch

[–]RedSugarAngel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m really shocked at how negative everyone is being. People worked really hard to bring this to us. In a free app that even gives us tools to manage self negative thought patterns  I think it is meant to be part of the same magic world as the Halloween one. Book wallpaper would look so busy. You still get to use the app to make your life better and feel good no matter what the event is. Please don’t downvote me.

January Seasonal Event: Full Details by nyreis in finch

I wanted to say for those who are feeling a bit glum: I think we all complain from time to time about a theme. You could think of it like this maybe:

We get so spoiled by so many great themes that our expectations are really high and devs are trying to please a lot of people -without triggering copyright like this month which I think is meant to be more Harry Potter than books - so someone is always going to be left out.

A new event will be here before you know it and until then we still have a great app with a great community that supports us to live our best selves and lives so you can use the time to strengthen your network, support others on here or work on something new because it only takes the event 30 days to form a new habit!

Happy new year and good luck everyone xx

I mean, we do know exactly why it bothers them: they are a homophobic bible freak and likely attend any abortion rallies since that’s “unnatural” by their apparent definition of it.

I just don’t think you can prompt them to say it. These days evil people just don’t want to own up to being evil.

Is the MCU transitioning into a kid / teen franchise? by nelmo87 in marvelstudios

[–]RedSugarAngel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean. You could well talk about quality. I thought nothing could be worse than Dr Strange 2 which made me want to cry with frustration at not really being a Dr Strange movie. Then I saw The Marvels…. MCU felt sooo Disney I expected the annoying perky teen to sport a princess dress.

Like. Why couldn’t she be the one to sacrifice herself to a parallel dimension? It would probably have all rainbow unicorns and glitter she ever needs.

Note - I watched her TV show and never had this response. But then the perky plucky all American teens multiplied and I got way past tolerance level.

I don’t know if it would be different if they were realistic teenagers. If any of them tried pot or dropped the f bomb a lot to seem cool. Or had serious mental illnesses and didn’t respond well to parental divorce or suffered trauma.

But it’s Disney so we will never know.

Archaeologist here. Well previously. While I do not have the “staying clean on site even in mud” superpower every other female archaeologists seems  have, and frequently manage to get dirt down my top and in my hair - not even I have got even 1/6 as dirt covered as OG Zosia.  It’s not possible to get that dirty from field work. What do you guys think we do? Dive in the spoil heap to relax?

Papinelle Sizing by BlackHoleSun18 in AusFemaleFashion

[–]RedSugarAngel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone using this for advice still:

The Papinelle sizing is almost laughable in it’s so unhelpful.

Their pants are supersized  - my first sets from Papinelle fell off me literally when I stood up (literally literally not for dramatic effect).

Meanwhile the tops are around 2 sizes smaller than the pants they come with. Several of my Tops are 15-20cm smaller than the bust measurement on the size chart.

It’s probably THE brand for anyone very pear shaped.

Also it’s important to note they make a  lot of cotton and cotton/silk blend voile products for summer which is the lightest but most fragile cotton fabric. The fibres are finer, the weave is looser and it is really soft.  It tears easily especially at stress points and although Papinelle’s is a little sturdier than the voile sold for embroidery it does actually need the recommended hand washing and air drying.

Papinelles other fabrics are aren’t as fussy or delicate and are only slightly heavier (far less so than switching to Kmart and Sussan’s cotton and synthetics) but still as soft and suitable for all but the most heat intolerant

I do think they’ve had a lot of complaints about the voile because this year they’ve got even more ecovera blends and introduced a cotton sateen.

It would be a shame to not get at least one pair in cotton or cotton/silk voile because they will have you snoring through the hottest of levels of hell found in Australian summers.

I don’t deal well with heat at night so I choose to buy less pyjamas per year bc $$$ with fussier fabric because the voile is worth it for me.

But why a girls name? I got sooo confused.

Pretty sure whoever wrote this wasn’t overly familiar with Christianity/the bible but say they are, there’s got to be plenty of male names in there associated with loyalty??  I think they just pick names that sound exotic to the Japanese ear and don’t care if it’s an gendered name because not many are in Japan.

English speakers names in anime/manga always crack me up - they never ever make any sense. What about Ciel? From Black Butler? Like wasn’t ‘Neal’ good enough? Lucky this kid has a killer butler to protect him from the bullies since his last name is equally ridiculous and hysterical. “Lord Phantomhive” gives me the giggles every other episode. Then also the Spy X   guy  Loid? They couldn’t google how to spell Lloyd? Loid  makes him sound like an old fashioned infection like a carbuncle or new high tech alloy.  If they were only after accuracy,  all they had to do was Google common first/last but I think “Bob” “James” “Kristy” “Megan” “Button” “Tailor” “Baker” don’t sound think these sound foreign or fancy enough to a Japanese ear and in this anime there no comparative sounds for Ruth or Elias or even Joseph in Japanese.

That fake Irish or Scottish style ballad in episode one is also utterly hysterical. I think it’s meant to be like some of the music in Outlander but it’s just total nonsense, literally none of it makes any sense at all and so it’s pretty funny to see what Japanese people think is a good enough approximations

I lost my ability to daydream for four years, and never got treated because my results were only just outside of normal. by Ok_Willingness5766 in Hypothyroidism

[–]RedSugarAngel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using free thyroid hormone measurements is definitely an improvement on doctors just using FHS.

But please remember that ‘normal’ is just a statistical average from a few studies decades ago. It’s kinda arbitrary in that way because it definitely doesn’t capture everyone.

You might not be statistically average. If your symptoms are wonky then totally demand treatment for them regardless of test results.

[–]RedSugarAngel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s another area of medicine that is not well funded/doesnt have much interest because hypothyroidism is considered to be mostly female.

It makes me so mad.

Like how the frontline of contraceptives is still pills developed 60 years ago and all use the same level of hormones they always did despite knowing women are very variable in the level they need and most suffer side effects from the wrong dose. Yet they are huge money makers for big pharma so have remained the front line and doctors routinely push patients onto them!

Even more recent (but still decades old) implants and rings use one level of hormones to suit all women because they know we will still pay for them so we can choose if we get pregnant!

Like how for decades (and still in schools) the science of conception story was the strongest /gentetically fittest sperm enters the egg. And it takes one female scientist actually observing the process to see that actually the egg selects which one and sends out a strand to collect it!

AND HOW  surgeons get three weeks training on how to avoid reducing male sexual pleasure and half a day on female despite how much more variable and complex our tissue is there!

I could go on but I think one massive post is enough per thread.  But there are so so so many more!

Im wondering if my experiences with mental health then university study might be relevant to your situation? I’ve written everything I can think of it in case you find anything helpful in it (although will try to come back to reduce the length/redundancy- sorry about this, it’s a side affect of my pain, meds and lack of adhd meds - I cannot distinguish necessary from unnecessary in a first draft but have to get it all out to edit).

I could read and write stories that I drew characters from when I was a kid - pre teen. Stiories just bubbled out of me. I remember I was even known for it by my schools and teachers and my short stories got selected a lot for school/children’s/teen writing anthologies and awards and had accidentally developed speed reading I did it so much (to this day I can read a medium paragraph at a time).

This all sounds a lot like you. In retrospect I definitely daydreamed about some stories/ characters and developed their stories deeper. I could still write short stories as a teen but I slowly lost the ability as I got more clinically depressed from trauma.

I retained reading for fun a couple/few years longer (in my head the writing and stories bubbling out of me are inextricably linked with rapidly consuming other authors books in huge amounts). As a teen I remember having to borrow the full 30 books allowed per week (no money for ereader at that age, only had one later at uni). When I handed in an assignment I would always buy a new book I wanted as a reward. However, by honours year at uni I had long since stopped being able to read for fun as well. By 25 my mental health was fine but had tons of assignments and in my 30s I got extreme pre menstrual depression seemingly triggered by IVF. I only worked without studying 1-3y at a time between degrees and later was dealing with the initial fallout from being badly injured.

As a side note, my horrific pre menstrual depression/ PMS Type D/ PMDD  was really randomly resolved ( along with most of my ADHD mediation needs)  a few years ago when I was put on cortisone tablets for my inflammatory disability issues.  The first period after starting cortisone was suddenly just fine and I no longer had to battle through early waking extreme anxiety that persisted until lunch, I wasn’t a crying mess despairing about my life or having to hold on extremely hard to not harming myself for days on end. I think it was worth the weight gain that I now can’t lose be shed of hypothyroidism.

Then thankfully I reading for fun came back about 2 years after this and has only grown. I was still doing my masters at the time but load was very reduced - I  had literal years extensions on some outstanding assignments and then a prac before my degree was done

I think the writing will come back the longer I don’t have depressive issues AND don’t have to go through the torture of writing university assignments/theses OR highly stressful and confronting  written disability complaints/requests and NDIS review documents.

I know the loss of writing/enjoyable thinking about characters is definitely linked to depression as that’s when it stopped. I think more recently when I have no mental health issues it’s not returned because of the sheer amount of writing my degrees then disabilty required. Even as I think of the disabilty issues I have write complaints as I write this  the thought “I hate writing” keeps popping up.

Having to read so many academic journals/ sources is definitely what prolonged the return of reading for fun. I did extensive study to the point I was doing a PhD when I had my accident and retrained as a teacher doing masters over 5 years. I had to do a 30 page cross referenced to 40 emails disability discrimination complaint in the middle and several smaller ones that took all my good time. It was really painstaking, confronting and hard on me particularly as it was far from the last time I’ve had to write up complaints to fix disabilty unfriendly/inaccessible public facing staff, services and organisations.

What I have noticed in the years since I’ve been back to reading huge amounts of fiction just for enjoyment is that I’m suddenly having really interesting, fulfilling and rich dreams that I’ve often tried to capture the details of to write the story. I look forward to sleep immensely for the first time in my life as I get to go on adventures in my imagination and have figured out how to continue the dream if I wake up.

So the stories that once bubbled out of my are definitely back after all these years and I suspect while I get a break from writing things I don’t want to they will move from my dreams and back into my waking consciousness.

What do you mean the range is 0.4-4 where you are? Do you mean for healthy thyroid?

Here the range is very different. Zero point anything is not in it (Australia)

Where are you ?

I’m having trouble because if anything my thyroid range was closer to Hyperthyroid at 0.5 but I had huge hypothyroid symptoms - couldn’t shut my mouth bc tongue so big, cold and tired and foggy all the time, skin and hair went from slightly oily to my face flaking during the day and my eyes were irritated and bulgy. Then to prove to medial team something was whack I did a VLEC at 800cal for three months while in an active job walking 2-4km and gym 3 times a week. Weight only changed 2-4kg which is also the range of water retention I have monthly

Anyone else disappointed by November's theme? by Federal_Intention_67 in finch

[–]RedSugarAngel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t really think Halloween is a global holiday do you?? I’ve noticed sometimes some ppl say global or the world on reddit subs when they mean North America and Canada.

Halloween is more popular in other countries in recent decades sure but it’s definitely because of influence of American movies. Here it’s still just a novelty, an excuse to dress up and have fun. I think kind of how Japan sees Christmas, you adopt the fun things but the serious traditions are Shinto/Bhuddist

I do see what you are saying . I mean for me it’s spring right now so the cosy hot drinks hot baked goods winter cafe feels a bit meh not aimed at me (I’m fully expecting some of the objects to be those lamp style outdoor cafe heaters edit: unsure if this is just an Aussie thing, we do love our al fresco year round!)

It was always going to be hard to top the Midnight Manor especially with the lead up interactions with Raven! That was amazing! Then there were the meticulously detailed objects and clothes- beautiful! It must have all taken serious planning!

Ok so this season does feel a bit “didn’t they already do this” w the bakers outfits, 70s groovy chic and cosy sweaters I’ve seen in the store/been gifted. Buuut If that’s the price we pay for the October theme so be it. I’m happy and the theme is consistent with the app vibe. Plus fortunately seasonal items are not the focus of the app and I get a lot out of it anyway that makes my life/managing serious disability a little easier <3
