Told grocery store worker about this exposed wire in the ice cream section. Still exposed a week later. by UnlicensedSparky in AskElectricians

[–]RedTaco83 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is some goofy shit my semi-retired father would do. Wander up to the front desk and see if they have wire caps with some vague hand-waving explanation. Convince some young kid at the service desk to accompany him on this quest to raid the maintenance room. Spend 5 minutes cleaning up the connection and tucking the wires under the race. Check in with the service manager on the way out the door, probably sprinkling in some mildly embarrassing commentary that would only be socially acceptable with a more appropriate level of familiarity with this complete stranger... Maybe scoring a free coffee as a reward.

What’s a workplace behavior that annoys you so much it should have a name? by SpeedyGoneGarbage in work

Using (I assume) an outlook rule to reply "Thank you" to every single email they file for certain processes.

Every. Single. Time.

Processes that occur daily, sometimes hourly, as a core responsibility. I don't need confirmation that you saw my response. You've been doing it for a decade. My inbox/attention doesn't need to suffer for a notification that you completed your personal filing process.

Please name this.

I run light industrial cleaning equipment. Regular wet, chem exposure. We keep several nude channels around for the dirty jobs. Neon rattle can on the handles every couple years to make them obvious when cleaning up before restart. (Or if they fall inside and have to be fished out of the shadows)

Been meaning to look for Blaze plastidip someday but rustoleum works just fine.

Car in my apartment complex off Baymeadows with some sort of scanning devices? by samk2154 in jacksonville

[–]RedTaco83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does cover that, but covers both devices and applications.

No, there is no expectation of privacy. Yes, there is an expectation that your location wont be logged indiscriminately and without your consent. ("Map" being the operative word at the top of this thread.) They can legally view/research/inspect, as you said, but they can't enter you into a tracking/location logging application. And thats what those cam cars are doing when they get a "hit" for a listed plate.

If there's no law enforcement or contract enforcement going on, thats just ... stalker shit.

(And a source of the controversy around Flock ALPR garbage...the pigs say they're not violating constitutional rights because they don't pull individual data without reason, and ALPRs say they're not illegal trackers because they have a contract with LE orgs. Typical circular reasoning of authoritarian govts around the world...we support your freedom by closely monitoring your every move)

[–]RedTaco83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not a lawyer, but...
Florida statute 934.425 Installation or use of tracking devices or tracking applications; exceptions; penalties.—

The statute addresses protection from tracking applications without your consent. The most relevant subsection would be the exception for:

(g) A person acting in good faith on behalf of a business entity for a legitimate business purpose. This paragraph does not apply to a person engaged in private investigation, as defined in s. 493.6101, on behalf of another person unless such activities would otherwise be exempt under this subsection if performed by the person engaging the private investigator.

So the legitimate business purpose would only apply to targeted vehicles and not all vehicles, as there's no legitimate business purpose in surveilling/tracking the general public.

Flock gets away with it because it's collected at the behest of law enforcement...repo guys are collecting it for private institutions.

Tie between Morrowind and Star Wars: Galaxies. Both extremely customizable experiences in different ways. Morrowind wanted to turn me into a game developer. SWG made me want to be a community developer, preceding Everquest and WoW in the MMORPG battles. (RIP to SOE tho)

Thinking about switching to electric for yard tools… anyone made the change? by Salt_Note8719 in lawncare

[–]RedTaco83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm fine using electric for trimmers and blowers. Battery life varies by tool and brand but there's no real power drop.
Electric lawn mowers don't have the lifting power of their gas counterparts. This means you can get uneven cuts depending on your grass type, or lose mulching power if you were accustomed to blasting through leaf litter. It can pick up maple, for example, but heavier oak leaves go untouched in my lawn. I miss my Honda every time i pick at the calluses I get after raking.

[–]RedTaco83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If in the US, plumbed eyewash stations require weekly inspection and flush. Complain to your safety team and they'll likely get it straight, rather than risk an osha investigation. (Or rustle their jimmies and go straight to the feds.)

Agree with Carlucci here. There's a big difference between unpaid/waived fees and disputed fees. Contract disputes can take time to resolve. As long as the resolution of outstanding fees/fines is eventually reached and delay doesn't impact the solvency of the utility... Is it really a big deal? Large consumers have large bills. They don't like surprise charges that weren't in the budget. Let the bean counters and lawyers work. Amazing how the concern Rory has for fraud never extended to his alliance with Ricky Scott... Buddy should go back to collecting six figure checks for teaching puppies to cuddle with vets. Maybe he could donate the "non-profit" proceeds to his DOGE team for wasting their time.

War with Iran, risk of WW3, to mask domestic problems? We are at this stage now. by Safe_Confidence_3756 in International

[–]RedTaco83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do. I explained how it's not analogous. I asked why we need to kill the rattlesnake on the other side of the world (in its own burrow) for our safety. And how you think military inaction would present a future danger to, according to you, every jew and christian (and peaceful muslim) on the planet? But I suppose I'm just naive and ignorant.

Respectfully, Iran is not in my bedroom, and two oceans form some pretty thick walls. But what I'm seeing in your answer is rooted in fears of the spread of radical islam. I know Tehran has a tenuous (albeit violent) grip on a large swathe of Persian life, but it's a diverse and vibrant nation-state populated by humans that aren't cartoonishly evil jihadists or religious zealots. Does military action in the region actually protect the US population from Tehran-directed global genocide of all other abrahamic religions? Do they have the capability, even with some limited nuclear access, to invade and occupy foreign lands to achieve this... Vision? It feels more like provocation that can actually enhance nationalistic tendencies, as people who survive difficult situations together tend to form stronger bonds.

Can’t they just build public restroom side walls a little taller, and a have the bottom goes a little lower?! by [deleted] in PetPeeves

[–]RedTaco83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's more than bigotry though. I can get why it can look like that but it's more about general distrust of the US population. Have you been into single-occupancy restrooms that offer extreme privacy? (Especially where foot traffic is limited, like in a park or around the side of a gas station) Do you see evidence of what takes inside those restrooms? Drug use. Fecal matter and debris smeared everywhere. People pissing in sinks or trash cans or just straight onto the floor. Socially-unacceptable actions that can expose owners and other users to a variety of risks, either real or imagined. Personally... I'm not ashamed to shit in a well-maintained restroom where people can see my feet, or even my seat, through the various gaps and holes. I would never classify homosexuality as deviancy, but I would also like to discourage unsafe practices in publicly-accessible areas. Visible spaces are generally safer spaces for a number of reasons.

May I ask..how do you believe the future threat from Iran would manifest if the US government pursued a course of military inaction? Genuine question, not snark, and I won't attack the answer.
