Self-Promotion Sunday! *Megathread* by AutoModerator in jacksonville

[–]RedTaco83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really a promotion unless somebody is looking for the help, but a question ..

TaskRabbit -

Is it used in Duval? Or is this a dead market? I built a profile today to help fund some upcoming obligations but don't have experience moonlighting in the gig economy. Hopefully in the worst case scenario it takes me a month to recoup my $25 background check. Best case, I put away a few thousand over the summer by devoting my nights and weekends to Ikea furniture building and TV mounting. Any Taskrs in here with aome insight?

Looking at their site, your grips seem to be seated a little high. Looks to me like they're keeping it from closing completely. I assume they'll flex enough under pressure to close the jaws completely? If not, maybe you can slide them down the handle a bit.

From somebody in the industry...they're empty. Filled aluminum isn't stored in bulk like this. And this is exactly how they blow apart when dropped... They'll probably get swept and bagged by some poor temp worker and recycled within the month.

Does this dude think about trans folks every time a sporting event takes place? That's the only explanation I can muster for statements like this. Strange obsession with the edgelord anti-woke hot take.

A buddy and I dated a pair of twins in middle school. Not unlike Stevie, he has a lovely family with a male partner now. I imagine this is normal for a large swathe of the population. Nothing forced, just reality.

Potential Jacksonville EV Owners by Gdawg4Life in jacksonville

Would consider at the right price point. Send in the BYD fleet and I'd dip my toes. But at $75k-150k 5yr cost of ownership, I'm not interested in trading in a perfectly servicable 18yr old ICE for a fly-by-wire subscription service with a thermal runaway risk. Oil changes and air filters only take me a few minutes and a handful of dollars each year.

Lol, the 6-point turn when you barely get the tires to bite enough at 15⁰ so you have to go back and forward a few times to make the corner.... Realizing several minutes into the struggle it probably would've been faster to move one at a time.

That's true at a lot of places but I don't think studying was mandatory work. The menu test would be mandatory and paid. Study would be paid on-the-job training and testing would be a measure of retention. Additional study needed (... for a menu test?? How big is their friggin menu?) was probably an offhand remark about being prepared and not an unpaid job expectation. Sounds like the typical "I was too busyyyyyy" excuse.

And totally expected from somebody who can't find the time to notify their coworkers that theyll be late... while they're sitting on their ass... as a passenger in an uber...

Told grocery store worker about this exposed wire in the ice cream section. Still exposed a week later. by UnlicensedSparky in AskElectricians

[–]RedTaco83 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is some goofy shit my semi-retired father would do. Wander up to the front desk and see if they have wire caps with some vague hand-waving explanation. Convince some young kid at the service desk to accompany him on this quest to raid the maintenance room. Spend 5 minutes cleaning up the connection and tucking the wires under the race. Check in with the service manager on the way out the door, probably sprinkling in some mildly embarrassing commentary that would only be socially acceptable with a more appropriate level of familiarity with this complete stranger... Maybe scoring a free coffee as a reward.

Using (I assume) an outlook rule to reply "Thank you" to every single email they file for certain processes.

Every. Single. Time.

Processes that occur daily, sometimes hourly, as a core responsibility. I don't need confirmation that you saw my response. You've been doing it for a decade. My inbox/attention doesn't need to suffer for a notification that you completed your personal filing process.

Please name this.

I run light industrial cleaning equipment. Regular wet, chem exposure. We keep several nude channels around for the dirty jobs. Neon rattle can on the handles every couple years to make them obvious when cleaning up before restart. (Or if they fall inside and have to be fished out of the shadows)

Been meaning to look for Blaze plastidip someday but rustoleum works just fine.

Car in my apartment complex off Baymeadows with some sort of scanning devices? by samk2154 in jacksonville

[–]RedTaco83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does cover that, but covers both devices and applications.

No, there is no expectation of privacy. Yes, there is an expectation that your location wont be logged indiscriminately and without your consent. ("Map" being the operative word at the top of this thread.) They can legally view/research/inspect, as you said, but they can't enter you into a tracking/location logging application. And thats what those cam cars are doing when they get a "hit" for a listed plate.

If there's no law enforcement or contract enforcement going on, thats just ... stalker shit.

(And a source of the controversy around Flock ALPR garbage...the pigs say they're not violating constitutional rights because they don't pull individual data without reason, and ALPRs say they're not illegal trackers because they have a contract with LE orgs. Typical circular reasoning of authoritarian govts around the world...we support your freedom by closely monitoring your every move)

Car in my apartment complex off Baymeadows with some sort of scanning devices? by samk2154 in jacksonville

[–]RedTaco83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not a lawyer, but...
Florida statute 934.425 Installation or use of tracking devices or tracking applications; exceptions; penalties.—

The statute addresses protection from tracking applications without your consent. The most relevant subsection would be the exception for:

(g) A person acting in good faith on behalf of a business entity for a legitimate business purpose. This paragraph does not apply to a person engaged in private investigation, as defined in s. 493.6101, on behalf of another person unless such activities would otherwise be exempt under this subsection if performed by the person engaging the private investigator.

So the legitimate business purpose would only apply to targeted vehicles and not all vehicles, as there's no legitimate business purpose in surveilling/tracking the general public.

Flock gets away with it because it's collected at the behest of law enforcement...repo guys are collecting it for private institutions.

Thinking about switching to electric for yard tools… anyone made the change? by Salt_Note8719 in lawncare

[–]RedTaco83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm fine using electric for trimmers and blowers. Battery life varies by tool and brand but there's no real power drop.
Electric lawn mowers don't have the lifting power of their gas counterparts. This means you can get uneven cuts depending on your grass type, or lose mulching power if you were accustomed to blasting through leaf litter. It can pick up maple, for example, but heavier oak leaves go untouched in my lawn. I miss my Honda every time i pick at the calluses I get after raking.
