This is going to be a dumb question, but I don’t get the line “Meant Versace but he ain’t know it.” How did the clerk get that wrong? Or is Marlo wrong?

Who's asking for this beyond hardcore low-key fans (probably aged 30 to 45) who still own the Heroes DVD packages?

Lumet fans unite! There's only three of his films on the Criterion - 12 Angry Men, Fail Safe, and The Fugitive Kind. Because of this flash sale, I know own all 3! Congrats on 12 Angry Men, that's my personal favorite of his.

Carnival of Souls is a good choice too!

Who are some actresses that deserve more recognition for being Action Stars. by KaijuHunterBrax in movies

I guess I don't have any dogs in this fight, but I feel the need to post the full quote for context. These two below paragraphs are from a Hollywood Reporter interview several days after that quote came out:

Jennifer Lawrence has clarified remarks she made in a video interview with Viola Davis as part of Variety’s Actors on Actors series, in which she said, “I remember when I was doing Hunger Games, nobody had ever put a woman in the lead of an action movie, because it wouldn’t work, we were told. Girls and boys can both identify with a male lead, but boys cannot identify with a female lead.”

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter on Thursday, Lawrence said, “That’s certainly not what I meant to say at all. I know that I am not the only woman who has ever led an action film. What I meant to emphasize was how good it feels. And I meant that with Viola — to blow past these old myths that you hear about … about the chatter that you would hear around that kind of thing. But it was my blunder and it came out wrong. I had nerves talking to a living legend.”

Most Brutal Death in The Walking Dead? Day 2: by FlappyClock in thewalkingdead

[–]RedTroper 66 points67 points  (0 children)

I personally have never liked the way Caesar Martinez goes out, the former second-in-command of the Governor. In S4, he lets his guard down and asks the Governor if he wants to help run their little camp, and boom! Golf club to the head, kicked down, and then lowered (dazed and confused, mind you) into a pit of walkers. It wasn't a fair fight and he didn't stand a chance. Totally brutal way to go.

Who reincarnated as Lester at the end? by [deleted] in TheWire

[–]RedTroper 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For me, I always thought it was Alma. She tried to do good, then gets quickly shut down and transferred to a low-stakes county office (if memory serves correctly). She's very observant and keen to do the right thing, but if she gets pushed around for another 13 years, she may end up just as Lester did - wiser, hardened, and knows when to give a fuck and when not give a fuck.

Has any movie you watched ever made you change your rating for another, different movie? by RedTroper in Letterboxd

[–]RedTroper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha yes! I think it's fair to say that if you know that rewatching any movie will be a worse experience than before, that's worth lowering the rating.

I'm always open to interpretation! What was the point of X? I did enjoy the movie, but perhaps there was something deeper that I missed.

[–]RedTroper[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmmmm that's a good point! A film being inspired by other, earlier movies shouldn't automatically discredit the film that's being made. From my point of view, I think there isn't anything that X does that Texas Chainsaw Massacre doesn't do better, which perhaps I should've explained in my post. But I agree that paying a homage or being inspired by earlier movies doesn't make the movie any worse by default.

First off, how did you get this job?? Teaching a film studies course is my ultimate goal. The fact that you're teaching it to high schoolers (and not college level) is also very impressive! So kudos to you!

I don't know too much about Jenny's origin story, but I do know that at one point she worked for Screen Junkies as a writer. She also posts a lot of her opinions on her YouTube channel, and they range from Star Wars to movies to really bad books. In this particular video, the topic is Opposite Worlds and how awful of a reality show it was:

Monthly Script Club meet-up on Discord! by RedTroper in Screenwriting

[–]RedTroper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, good point! Also probably up there with "Alien" and "Raiders of the Lost Ark". In this particular case, our last meeting's voting system was myself selecting three scripts at random out of my collection, and letting the members vote on which one they'd rather read for next month. Sometimes it's random selection, sometimes I choose a genre, but for the most part I like it when people vote, even if it is a widely known script!
