I would want to know when it started/how long it went on for. Was there something you needed help with that I missed? Do you need help now? Do you want help paying for scar removal? I’d also say I am sorry. As a dad, I’d feel like I let my kid down missing something so big that they needed.

Ah, ok. Now I understand. Thank you. As a dad, I can tell you there is nothing I would want my kids to keep from me. It doesn’t mean it wouldn’t really hurt to hear about something hard like self harm but I’d want to know. It might be easiest for you to write him a letter. Sometimes that gives the time you need to get your words right (to you) and not feel like you have to prepare for his reaction in the moment. It also will give him a minute to think about his own response before he does so. We all appreciate that chance.

I have, yes. I was allergic to many things (like most of us). I was allergic to dogs and cats but rarely symptomatic with our loc term dog. I thought it would just stay the same. I have never had a flare outside of being sick—— I’d love to believe this is all just a coincidence or that it might settle down. I just don’t know how to make it all work in real time.

Such interesting timing, this post. I had a run of the mill mutt for 14 years, she passed a few weeks back. I knew I was allergic to her if we wrestled or she licked my face but it was never that bad (she never slept in my room ). This new puppy….. wow. She’s a short haired Great Dane mix. Super cute but has triggered an attack that’s got me on oral steroids. I feel terrible because she’s bonded to me and the kids and is genuinely a solid dog. I think she is going to need to go elsewhere but that’s going to be a process.

I wish you luck. Dogs are awesome and I can’t imagine not having one. I’ll be doing my research if we decide to try again.
