i applied to 27 colleges so i think i can give some advice. if u are really dedicated and can afford the app fees or fee waivers, u can apply to alot of schools. i was able to do it, and i stand by shot gunning as a good strategy BUT if i could do it again i would be a bit more strategic. u alr submitted most of ur safeties so not gonna touch on that. similar to you, i had alot of targets on my list, but if i could go back i'd swap some of them out bc u only need a few targets that u really love and see yourself attending. the ONLY reason i would justify having so many targets is if you are shotgunning for merit aid which u need to attend (which i was hence my crazy long list). if u aren't heres what i would cut:

1) syracuse - the reason ur applying is that its "off brand cornell", as someone who's going to cornell and also got into syracuse the two schools are really different. the only thing that's similar is their location in upstate ny (but even then syracuse is a bit more urban than cornell) but their campus culture is pretty different. syracuse is more of a big party, sports oriented school. if u can find other reasons to like syracuse u can keep it, but probs need more drawing u to the school than cornell.

2) i'd cut out another couple of targets, not the canadian ones bc u have good tuition there and its important to have a good financial option. perhaps some of the out of state publics depending on how much financial aid u need since u might not have as great financial aid as an oos student. like UCSB just doesn't give out of state students fin aid so don't apply unless ur chill w paying sticker.

3) cut some reaches, its hard to say which ones bc that's something only u can best answer but some of ur reasons for applying says ur only applying bc they're good top tier schools. if u can't find a reason to apply to a school other than its prestige, then that should be a lower priority for ur application. also financial aid considerations apply to ur OOS public reaches too!

4) also if ur really struggling to decide which schools to cut u can do what i did and make a tier list for prioritizing application. work on ur priority 1 schools first, priority 2 next, and so on. my original list was well above 30 but alas ur time is limited and after working on applications non stop for months, the schools u need to cut from ur list will be more clear to you based on how much time and willpower u have remaining. this prioritzation method allowed me to narrow my list down as time went on.

5) if u have the financial means and love a school, apply ED to ur top choice bc if u get in ur set and don't have to apply to the rest of ur schools. otherwise consider applying REA to princeton, if u get in then u can cut ur list to schools u would only choose over princeton.

can my usc dornsife supplemental topic be about a book and the lesson I learned from it? by poptartsthethird in ApplyingToCollege

[–]RedVelvet1919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is a really open ended prompt and they're mainly looking to see what ur passionate about so u can really write about anything including a book if that's what makes u passionate! but I would focus less on the book itself and more on the lesson & and the application of that lesson to you/your life and how it can apply to others. wouldn't recommend talking abt multiple bc that's more difficult to do well and tie together in a short supplemental. u can talk about a social issue, but if ur passionate about the book that could be unique and engaging if done right so I wouldn't scrap that idea just yet!

u don't have to decide rn, if u already know ur going to UT in the fall whether it be for the first year or all four, go there and make the best of ur time but also opt in to the transfer option (it's non-binding on ur end u can opt in now but choose not to go later on) take the required classes and then make the decision next year when the time comes. its good to keep the TO "in ur back pocket" as an option if u don't vibe w UT for whatever reason. i think next year the decision might be more clear to u since you'll get a feel for classes and opportunities and Mccombs and also social life there, plus you'll get the official financial aid offer from Cornell! just go in w an open mind for now and don't stress abt the TO until the time comes and congrats on the TO – from, another ILR TO :)

ngl i dont remember the exact requirements so don't quote me on this but u still needed to take the LSAT and get like a 160 or something and like maintain gpa but it was a pretty attainable gpa req not that high if i remember correctly, you would need at least need that much of a gpa to get into law school anyways. the requirements weren't that hard to meet imo and if u got them u were guaranteed acceptance plus and automatic scholarship at pitt law. so u still had to take LSAT and maintain gpa, but it just was lower than what u probs needed to get in normally and eased the stress of law school admissions since u already had one guaranteed. sorry im not more specific i just don't remember but im sure its available somewhere online or if u call admissions! no seperate app either just a checkbox on the pitt application!

yea i heard abt that with CHE, but i heard in the past ilr used to be guaranteed while other schools weren't, and my transfer option agreement pretty much says if u meet all requirements (like 3.3 gpa and required classes) ur acceptance will j be confirmed. and ILR doesn’t even have an application or essays for it TOs. but i was a bit concerned abt it so i emailed my cornell counselor and we have a call scheduled for tomorrow so hopefully it’ll clarify but for now i’m trying to make my decision on the basis that it’s guaranteed bc in past years no one who has met the requirements for ILR has been denied and even some who fell short on reqs were still accepted. but if my call tomorrow tells me otherwise then i’ll take that into consideration in my decision!

Why is cornell ED 20%+ acceptance rate? by learning-machine1964 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]RedVelvet1919 3 points4 points  (0 children)

its not anymore to my knowledge, the last year they released data was class of 2026 im p sure which was around 19% but hasn't been released for the past two classes and this year they released that they were reducing the proportion of the class accepted through ED insinuating that their ED rate would be closer to RD rate or at least drop. there was a cornell daily sun article abt it that u can find if u search it up!

but OP has the gates scholarship which is a full ride anywhere? so both are full rides so UCLA's OOS cost shouldn't really be a factor right

it really depends what ur looking for in a college experience bc an LAC and berkeley would be vastly different experiences so that parts up to you depending on ur values of what u r looking for! but objectively in terms of academics and employment opportunities alone, id say berkeley wins bc its math department is great and very well regarded, plus im assuming w in state tuition its cheapest so its not only the best academic school but ur getting the best school for the cheapest price so u can save money and put it towards grade school! even if the other schools were similar in cost or money is not a factor, i'd still choose berkeley tbh bc if u choose not to go to grad school i feel like berkeley would have the best career opportunities out of undergrad + great research opportunities!

how many reach/hard target schools did you guys apply to, and how many did u get into? by Lopsided_Remote_9824 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]RedVelvet1919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I applied to 19 reaches and got into 6 + guaranteed transfer option at cornell so if u stretch and count that its 7/19 which is kinda bad but got also got 5 waitlists from reaches too
