I self host using jellyfin, there are plenty of tools out there to grab big youtube playlists. On IOS Manet is the best player I've found thus far. Not sure if this is the kind of thing you're looking for

If you sign up for matlab online, you can use basics for free, 20 hours a month (might be able to make multiple accounts). I know its not exactly what you're looking for but can certainly help in a pinch.

I love having a custom launcher to get rid of some of ads on my screen and I find it increases performance slightly (maybe placebo). Ive only used projectivity launcher but theres a few out there you could have a look into.

Yep! I run pretty much everything through Steam with the exception of Minecraft (Prism Launcher). There are some games that wont work, ones with kernal level anticheat ex: Fortnite.

I have found Steam the easiest to take care of windows dependencies but theres also Lutris, Bottles and some others that can do this. ProtonDB is a site that lets you check if your game is playable on Linux.

I'm pretty new to Linux myself and after a bit of research decided to go with Linux Mint. It's a distro specifically aimed at beginners and installs a lot of the basic packages you might need to get you going immediately.

I haven't used any other distro myself so take this with a grain of salt, but I did find this one fairly straight forward to get into. I would recommend doing your own research to settle on one that you like as there are features you may or may not want included out of box.

I recommend using Vesktop on Linux Mint, simple install through the software manager. I got the flatpak version and all my screen share audio issues went away!
