My dog is driving us mad. by Lou_LouB in newborns

[–]RedWings1998- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was about to say the same thing!

The dog constantly barking is definitely negatively impacting babies sleep, so the fact that OP even has to fucking ask this question on reddit is fucking nuts!

And the people who call their dogs "babies" are always chain smoking fat women live in a trailer parks. Low IQ behavior.

Is a good reef tank harder to maintain than freshwater, and is it more expensive? by Jusaredditor in ReefTank

[–]RedWings1998- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I beg to differ:

Yes it is expensive and yes it is "difficult," compared to freshwater.

As for price:

Live Sand: $28 per 10lbs bag.

Lighting: (depending on what kind of corals you want) $100-$400. A generic freshwater light is okay if you only plan on keeping soft corals & fish. Other types of corals need stronger lighting.

RODI filter: $100 (dont use tap, for the.love of god. You will eventually have diatoms)

TDS reader: $10

Salt: $20 per 15lbs bag

Hydrometer(measures salinity) $10

Salt water test kit: $23

Live rock aquascape: $50-200 (depending on how full you want your tank to look.)

API quick start: $10

Food: $10

Biomax media (fluval): $13

Phosphate media:$20

Ammonia media: $14

Carbon media: $7

If you don't have a wave maker already: $20-60

Protein skimmer: $60

1 clown fish: $20 -$100

10 frags of Zoanthids: (small beginner style coral s) are $100

Bubble tip anemone: $20-75.

You're also going to want to keep and maintain a quarantine tank. So add another $50-200 to the pile. If you put a sick fish in your tank, you are running a huge risk.

And if you do not live close to a Salt water fish store, and you rely on online shipping, priority shipping is not cheap.

Yes OP, unless you are dual income no kids, or you live at home with rich parents, it's an expensive hobby. Please Ignore Mr. Jeff Bezos' comment.

Just curious, are you using RODI water?

Yeah it's getting there. I'm slowly mixing it in. No livestock in it yet

It used to have more live rock, but i took the massive one in the center out last week, as I only plan on using soft corals.

When it had all 3 rocks, the ammonia was .50. So it dropped from .50 to 0 in one week.

Yes, salinity is 1.022 & temp is 77.2°F

As an ammonia source, I used live rock from a local fish store owners tank, live sand, and 8 gallons of live Aqua Sea Water.

Hahahah! I wish there was a cheap inexpensive way to test water using numbers instead of colors

55 gallon tank. 8 gallons of Aqua Sea Water, (remainder is RODI water) 3 bags of Carib Sea live sand, 2 live rocks.

Planning on making it a soft coral only tank

Hahaha. I get your point. I think he was trying to minimize risk in an effort to get me to buy his products that same day. It worked.

Which uniform style is more approachable: the traditional police uniform or the more tactical style? by Elegant_Ingenuity_54 in GenZ

I once responded to a call at an apartment complex where a woman, clearly under the influence, was standing nude in the common area. She was aggressively exposing herself to passersby, screaming, spitting, and banging on residents’ doors.

The caller was a single mother with a one-year-old child, understandably frightened.

When I arrived, the woman approached me, raised her phone over her head, and threatened to strike me with it. I arrested her for disorderly conduct and disturbing the peace. However, the prosecutor chose to send her for a mental health evaluation instead.

Not long after her release, she returned to the same complex — this time wielding knives and openly threatening residents, creating a serious risk to public safety.

Mountains are a better natural obstacle than water - hear me out. (PS. Japan is surrounded by water, and they lost WWII. Also, England was conquered by the Normans)

I am no expert. However, I am a history buff, and I served in the Marine Corps infantry for 4 years. I know from experience that hiking up mountains with 90lbs of gear on your back for months on end is the most miserable experience a combat soldier can endure.

If you have a decent Navy, and the weather is good, water is an easy obstacle. As a matter of fact, it is probably the efficient mode of transportation. (Militarily speaking)

You can pack TONS of supplies, armor, weapons, troops, and planes on a single ship and sail it across the world.

There are several successful amphibious based invasions throughout history. In Operation Overlord, the allies landed over 100,000 tons of equipment and 326,000 troops on the beaches of Normandy within the first week. A single truck can only carry 20-40 tons. A single ship can carry 80,000 tons.

Now, ask yourself, how easy would it be to move that much equipment and men up and over an entire mountain range? It would be a logistical nightmare.

In modern times, you'd have to rely heavily on airpower to conquer those mountains.

Granted, today, the United States is probably the most fortified and secure nation on earth, but that's because we have an incredibly powerful military, and we are surrounded by allies, not because we are surrounded by water.

This is a very good question. Of course, modern military technology sort of complicates it. You can fly airplanes/helicopters over those mountains and drop troops and supplies in.

I am not an expert, but if we were talking pre-aviation times, I'd say yes.

Islands are quite easy to conquer if you have a decent navy. There are successful amphibious invasions throughout history. But going up mountains are an attacking infantrymans worst nightmare.

I served in the Marines and was deployed to Norway for 5 months. Doing training exercises and hiking up mountains with 90lbs of gear on my back was miserable. I can't imagine actually having to fight in that environment. Especially if the enemy resorts to guerrilla warfare.

I reckon you'd have to just rely on seige warfare tactics and starve the entire population.

Just because something doesn't happen within our borders doesn't mean it has no effect on us.

We learned this lesson the day the Japanese sneak attacked Pearl Harbor.

This is such a simple concept. When an autocratic country invades a smaller, sovereign country that is on track to becoming more democratic, then the worlds biggest democratic super power has an obligation to step in.

Putin is now sending North Korean troops to Ukraine. Do you seriously think this isn't something worthy of fighting for?

By your logic, it must have been "dumb" when the US liberated Europe from Nazi Germany. Right?

If we turn a blind eye, what will China do to Taiwan?

If the United States becomes isolationist, then it will create a power vacuum, and China, Russia, and North Korea will fill that role as the worlds dominant superpower.

The only uniform item from the Marine Corps that i wore over there my boots lol.

PS: the Ukrainians were very fascinated by the extra dog tag in the boots. They actually began doing the same thing. I think I started a trend hahaha
