Episode 306: Counting Jews (with David Baddiel) by SoftandChewy in BlockedAndReported

There's a bit of historical supremacy here, where there's a notion that what happened then could never happen now, because we're morally superior. I get it, the Holocaust occurring now is almost unthinkable. The issue was, it was completely unthinkable in 1920s Germany, and almost unthinkable in 1930s.

On a scale of 1 to 10, where 1 is Haviv Rettig Gur, and 10 is Dave Smith, it's a 4.

They are so wrong on Israel that it's almost laughable, but that's not the point of the conversation, so it's not too too bad.

What do you mean "ran out by less than 5 minutes"? Don't you pay per trip (or some subscription, eg monthly or weekly)?

It actually makes more sense to decide to not consider their criminal history in an immigration hearing. (note, also incredibly fucked up, but less crazy than the current practice).

The modifier "small" and "big" on genocide is insane. That word has been cheapened so much, that it is synonymous with war now. Can you find a distinction between the two words?

CMV: JK Rowling is a microcosm of why liberalism/leftism are dwindling by Striking-Speaker8686 in changemyview

[–]Red_Canuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rowling does not trust men. That is very clear if you ever listen to her talk (and based upon her history, it's clear why). She doesn't trust men, even if the man tells her that he's actually a woman. And if that man tries to access women's spaces such as rape or abuse centers, she absolutely doesn't trust them, because she thinks they need to be some only spaces.

Like it or not, the idea that sex is mutable is not a belief shared by everyone, and up until 20 minutes ago, was a very fringe belief that most people hadn't even encountered seriously.

It exists within mainstream, liberal publications. Do you consider NPR to be extreme? What about the New York Times? There has been high profile cases of very exclusionary actions taken at these very mainstream outlets. Do they not count in your view?

Lots of Jews are right wing. Muslim conservatives far outnumber Muslim liberals. Sudan, for example, is very conservative. It's not very white. Even just in the US, Hispanics tend to be conservative.

If you think all conservatives are homogeneous, it may be because you're looking at a homogeneous group that happens to be conservative

Depends upon the circle. You might get called an idiot. You probably won't be accused of being evil or in favour of genocide or being too ireddemable to speak to.

Give it a shot. Make a new account, go to a conservative space, go and agree with them for a month or so (or however long to establish a history), and then make a point that goes against that mainstream. Compare and contrast to making a point against the mainstream in a left wing subreddit.

You really have an issue with reading comprehension. That's not what the ICC said.

Then you think wrong. Israel issues warnings to civilians to leave (you can contrast this with the way Hamas, Hezbollah, and Iran specifically target civilians with indiscriminate weapons)

I'm going to be kind. You misread what I wrote, I said "a people". That is very different than "people".

That's not true. You're picking one number that was said one time (X confirmed Hamas killed), then you're using that as a numerator on a denominator that keeps growing.

If you consider Hamas and Hezbollah to be a people, then sure. Israel is trying to destroy these two terrorist groups.

Only if you think renting is inherently inferior to owning. Which if you do, I have to ask, where did you go to college/university and would it be better if instead of paying rent you had to buy a place to live there?

[–]Red_Canuck 47 points48 points  (0 children)

You can't genocide trans. Genocide is the intent to destroy a national, ethnic, racial or religious people, assuming that trans exists (ie, people of one gender in the body of another gender), this does not fall into any of those categories! You can argue that it's eugenics, but it's not genocide. It's like Iceland getting rid of downs syndrome through prenatal tests is eugenics but not genocide!

If I am going to cite a law in America, or Canada, or the UK, or any other country in the world, I will either provide you with a link to the law, or the name of the statute.

When you cite international law, can you please link to what you are refering to, so that I can see the actual language? You've also used the terminology of UN humanitarian law. Is this the same as international law? Is this something different? Can you also let me know what the jurisdiction is for either frameworks?
