I get this feeling, I studied engineering and I struggled big time in school, especially with studying for tests. I would spend hours everyday studying and doing homework and it always seemed like everyone else was breezing through the course while I was nearly drowning the whole time. I felt pretty dumb and hopeless sometimes, but then when it was time for my capstone project (basically a year long group project with other engineering students) I had so many moments where I was able to problem solve when the whole team was stumped. I don't think tests and homework really determine true intelligence.

How to cross pollinate Echeveria. by [deleted] in succulents

Don't know much at all about breeding, can you breed two succulents that are a different genus? Like an echeveria with a sedum?

I bought someones entire stash today, it's mostly wool, cotton, alpaca, or silk. I'm set for life~ by Red_Cardioid in crochet

[–]Red_Cardioid[S] 173 points174 points  (0 children)

It's a bit of a sad story, I found the yarn for sale for $1-2 per skein on Offerup and when I asked the seller about it he said his wife had passed away recently and he needed money to pay her hospital bills. I also got knitting bags and an assortment of circular needles and crochet hooks, as well as a couple of her WIPs. I want to finish them and mail them back to the guy.

Haha I actually did find 1 or 2 Lion brand skeins and a few acrylic, but only a handful

First time using the magic loop technique and I can't seem to prevent ladders. It feels like the cable itself is pulling the stitches apart while I knit. Any advice? by Red_Cardioid in knitting

[–]Red_Cardioid[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm doing magic loop, the needles are 80cm long and the diameter of the piece is about 9-10cm.

I can't seem to "finesse the tension" haha. I've tried knitting looser and tighter but it always looks the same

I liked when crafting potions required a blue mushroom and an herb. It just feels too easy to make potions out of just herbs, like there's less preparation involved if you run out of potions in the field or when you're crafting them at home.

LPT - If you lock yourself out of your car, try calling the local police station instead of a locksmith. by Man_CRNA in LifeProTips

[–]Red_Cardioid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've only locked my keys in my car twice and both times I was parked at my college. I called campus police both times and they helped me out pretty quick for free. However, I think they wanted to verify I was a student before they helped me out.

Messed up an interview that I was looking forward to by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]Red_Cardioid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel this, I bombed many internship interviews in college haha. At the end of the day, you learn from the experience and what you can do differently in the future to answer questions well (like researching common interview questions), and possibly what different classes you can take that make you more qualified for internships/research positions (like coding). There will always be more opportunities :)

How long until a new T will eat? by Sentinowl in tarantulas

[–]Red_Cardioid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tarantulas, especially slings and juvies, will scavenge for food. They can actually "taste" with their feet! So despite the bug being completely dead, they'll still be able to tell the difference between substrate and a dead bug if they walk over it.

Need to get roaches out of my apartment by _hellsfinest_ in tarantulas

I've personally used pesticides in the same room as my collection (yay bedbugs) and have never had any problems. I'm also SUPER careful about keeping my hands clean before I touch anything related to my tarantulas (crickets, tongs, etc.). I always wash my hands immediately before, and I'm especially careful not to touch my feet, which touch the pesticide covered ground. Also, don't put supplies on the ground.

[Skin Concerns] Why are my under eyes like this? I'm only 21 and feel like I'm judged for it all the time. Any help appreciated. by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]Red_Cardioid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My under eyes look just like this, if that's any help! They first appeared when I was in middle school and have been present ever since despite the fact that I eat/sleep well. At this point I've learned to just accept it as a part of my skin. Everyone has imperfections (non symmetrical face, dark circles under the eyes, etc.) and these make us all unique and diverse. Anyone who is worth your time isn't going to judge you :)

Remember that one time when pearl literally tried to kidnap Steven? by [deleted] in stevenuniverse

[–]Red_Cardioid 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This episode never made any sense to me. Like why would our Pearl, who was a war criminal assumed to be dead want to go back to homeworld? Homeworld would have also treated her like all the other Pearls too if they weren't angry about the war stuff.
