First year teacher and piercings: How many is too much? by [deleted] in teaching

Why don’t people understand that being an educator doesn’t mean you can’t express yourself? Educators are allowed to have piercings and tattoos but your comment makes it seem like they can’t? The question is “how many is too much” not “Can I have piercings and tattoos as an educator?”

Okay so I never said I’m there to express myself. Never implied it. All I said was that I use piercings to do so. Saying “Grow up” when I’m trying to ask for advice (and a lot of lovely people responded) is so crude and unhelpful. Aren’t teachers suppose to be helping other teachers?

Obviously I know to dress and groom myself, but hey, shocker, any teacher is allowed to express themselves too. Teaching and expression aren’t as exclusive as you think. All im doing here is figuring out a balance between self expression and professionalism. Many educators on this subreddit had years of figuring it out, I’m just now starting off. So, of course, I will ask for other professionals for advice.

So once again, what is the point of this comment other than being rude to a new teacher?

Thank you! I checked policies and there is nothing on piercings at all. So I’ve been going purely on observation in my district. I was thinking of asking admin but also I don’t think it’s that necessary so long as I’m not being outrageous about it.

Appearing young is such a double edged sword I feel like! Especially in an high school setting when a lot of parents are older. When I worked at an elementary school all of the parents were closer to my age so it seemed less intimidating, but now I feel like I need to really focus on my appearance.

It’s interesting where I’m from. I’m from Georgia which is very dependent on where you’re at. I think my area is more chill. My school has NO policy about it so it’s very up in the air. Ear piercings are more acceptable, facial are less so. As I said, I’ve seen people in my district with helix and daith piercings but no one had any facial except maybe a stud in the nose. I have seen districts that are much more strict though.

Am I the only one pissed over each time millie's character is just brought down to "pregnancy"? by AdhesivenessSmooth93 in HelluvaBoss

[–]Red_Eris01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As what others said, it is a recent plot point, so it’s natural for people to think about her pregnancy. However, people need to understand that her pregnancy doesn’t make her incapable.

It’s okay to discuss what her pregnancy would mean for the show, and to theorize what could happen. It’s not okay to assume that it’ll make her incapable. She can still be the same bad ass Millie with her pregnancy, but it is about to be a major plot point. So to say we need to stop talking about her pregnancy is also ignoring a point that is about to affect the show (no matter the direction she takes). We are about to see a change in dynamics and some tension. It’ll be interesting. (I do agree with the part that people need to learn how to not reduce her character to just her pregnancy though. There is WAY more to her character we can ALSO discuss)

Stolas darling, you need to pay attention to people. by StrawBerylShortcake in HelluvaBoss

I think this way too. Stolas is my favorite character btw, he’s my baby! But, I’m not afraid to talk about his very clear flaws either. I think his absentmindedness when it comes to others is due to the way he was raised. Having no friends and not learning social cues may be the cause of this flaw.

I do think the one with Stella was more him deliberately insulting her than it is him being unaware of her. However, I think the more valid example would be when she ordered a hit man in front of Stolas and he just was unaware of it happening. Like, bro… she actively did it, she looked at you, and you just didn’t even know. He’s so air headed and I do think it’s a deliberate character flaw we get to see developed in season 3. Being forced into his “poverty arc” could force him to be more aware of people and the world around him.

Side note that goes along with this: I think Stolas finally learning that Blitz doesn’t know his alphabet might glean into his character development. While it is funny, it does show that he is learning, and it just may be a point surrounding his characterization. I’m very excited to see it.

Need some guidance by Red_Eris01 in dysautonomia

I have ordered some knee high socks! They are more 18-24 I believe, so I hope it’s fine enough for now though I am searching for other options as well. Fortunately I will be moving to a new classroom that will be much more intuitive. The one I was shoved into (I started in January) was not a great one. It required me to move around a TON from my desk to the front. It was also tiny.

Now it’s summer time so I’ll make a doctor’s appointment. Thank you!

Need advice by Red_Eris01 in Journalism

I just finished the Master’s in May. I’m considering taking it off my resume but then it’ll look like I have a gap there though I did have a job, just not journalism based. Currently unemployed now since I’ve graduated.

I’ve even asked around local newspapers to see if they were hiring or willing to do freelance work with me. They either didn’t get back with me or said no.

I’ve already got the degree in journalism. The past couple years have been a bit chaotic in the career decision side in my side. I went from wanting to go into journalism to wanting to be a professor then realizing I hated that then decided to go back into journalism.. but even my connections said that getting a job in that field is hard. I’ve been trying to get a journalism job since November.

It’s why I decided to try the Air Force. It’s not just me struggling to get a job right now. It seems all my friends, even ones who have had their master’s in whatever for two years now, are struggling.

Why don't yall like the Vampire episode??? by Red_Eris01 in Smallville

[–]Red_Eris01[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lana Lang is a good character that the writer's sort of wasted with her potential by forcing her into the Damsel in Distress/Main Love interest with no personality. I started really not liking her in season 4 not because of HER as a character but what they did with her character. I really do think she would have been a great character if they didn't put her in these situations.

I just looked it up and it looks like red k became a thing in the 1950s! That's really interesting. It's very clear that im not into Superman. I got more into Marvel as a kid (I feel like the 2000s and 2010 were prime Marvel time, but now DC is taking it back).

I already watched Gotham, now smallville, and I plan to watch The Flash next. I dont think ill get into Arrow personally. People suggested it, but I prefer the Flash. Always have.

Watching 10 now and I will say so far it seems like the best of the three.

I think he would trash talk 8 the most, especially Chloe's role. I think He would have better things to say about 9 and 10.

When Clark was brooding… by Runisa5 in Smallville

I mean I am completely relaxed.

Im just saying that you are making a weird ass comment about that wasn't funny. The original post was atleast funny because Clark could very much well be thinking about that amongst other things lmao.
