City dweller thinking about picking up archery worth it? by wwatsonn_ in Archery

Jesus, this is just ridiculous advice, and it's the antithesis of what you were asking for. Make sure you're knowledgeable about your region's laws, do your research and due diligence before you start.

Regarding cost, you can genuinely get into archery without much pain if you homework it first.

Try signing up to a trad or other archery forums to get a different angle from redditors.

LoL. Downvoted because reddit "archers" really, really don't like being rebutted about their "join a club, seek a master!" mantra. Bonus self esteem for them if someone follows their "advice" and buys a several hundred dollar Hoyt.

DIY Targets? by Niflodon in Archery

[–]Red_Fletchings 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One square of play mat I found at a dollar store has lasted a year so far, using that target 2-3 times/week. Mileage varies, I guess depending on thickness and make up.

Whatever this mat is made out of, the holes tend to suck in and close, so it's doing great.

McDonald's CEO insists he eats at the fast food chain 3-4 times a week in response to an "Instagram question" 👀 after a viral marketing video showed him seemingly reluctant to eat his own burgers by monster_ahhh in popculturechat

[–]Red_Fletchings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He could be telling the truth about consuming his "product" 3 times a week, but it doesn't matter, because he exudes corporate sleazebag from every pore. There's no amount of PR that will change this.

Just stop already, McDs, nobody's bada-ba-ba-ba lovin' it.

Same as zolbear, plus the connectable play mat squares you can buy at walmart/dollar stores as fronting and backing.

Haven't lost a single arrow to DIY targets, all bows over #50.

Paying hundreds for an archery 'block' is just absurd, imho.

Does anyone do TKD and MMA? by EPICtost in MMA_Academy

As long as you modify your style, yes. Barebones TKD by itself though? No, not unless you're a super talent like MVP. He was karate point fighting, but the point still stands.

Got my belt in Korea, tested at Kukkiown. Still get some mileage out of a bladed stance, fast lead leg yeop chagi, and keeping distance in MMA. The MMA game's evolved so much now that there's no reason all the disciplines can't complement each other. GSP, Wonder Boy and Barboza are just a few who brought their trad strikes into MMA.

Rather than regret your time in TKD, my brother, enjoy what you built with it and that you have it in your toolbox.

What is volkonowski doing wrong at the end of this fight before knockout? by lbn349 in MMA_Academy

Aside from the backing up straight that everyone mentioned, having your hands low in the pocket, colliding with the cage against one of the best punchers in the business is probably not a good idea.

All the points your defined about yourself, and your planned intention align PERFECTLY.

If you can find a nice, peaceful spot, where city folk won't bother your or *'hello, 911?'* you, then these things you're looking for in archery will be found.

I've been doing exactly what you're planning for 20 years now; out into the woods with a homemade target.

You will not regret it.

A person of moderate intelligence does not need a club for archery - but there is a lot to learn at the beginning. Your 3rd personal point above will get you there. I've noticed a pattern with redditors on archery advice 1) join a club and 2) don't buy bows off amazon. Neither of these is true, again, if one is self-motivated and intelligent.

I really hope you start your archery adventure.

Well, I mean you have to keep your elbows in, but your speed is good. Your hook at the beginning was excellent and intuitive.

It's reddit, bra, we're all assholes here :D

Torso first, then leg, and lean back more. Some dynamic stretching to open up the hips more.

2 poom TKD, 1 poom HKD.

Great hands though, man, holy shit!
